Just how I was feeling today! You know I love in these old movies how 1st of all when they have a story they tell it & they didn't need to make it "2 hours" long or run over & fill it "filler"(for lack of better terms) & the same w/older music....The song would be "sung" ;) & then ended! I also love how in the 30-'s 40's films we get to see all of these actors who were trained for silent movies too. They use their eyes etc much more...It always makes me think of growing up watching Young Frankenstein & my dad would tell me that about the actor who played Igor the hunchback assistant...I guess he came from the silent era.
@@elioselectric468, that's right. Also, before the beginning of sound in films, they had to rely purely on visual slapstick for effect, which is why many films such as the Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin films had so much of people falling over, pushing and punching each other, chasing each other, seeing things like houses and buildings and other objects crumbling apart and breaking. And like you said, people using their eyes much more, and they had exaggerated facial expressions, and heavy hand and arm gestures. Because they were unable to fill in any time with verbal dialogue, physical slapstick had to be continuous and exaggerated from how it was once talking pictures began in the late 1920s
@@elioselectric468 Your post prompted me to look up Marty Feldman ("Igor") and I found he was born in 1934 - too late for silent movies but you're still right, he would have been GREAT in silent comedy.
my gram gram was born in 1942 and i was really shocked to know these were the movies back then,it makes me feel so happy watching old movies like this that my gramgram used to watch
My 11 year old daughter enjoyed watching this today. I think one of the male actors is from Wizard of Oz and played Tin Man. Wonderful short. Zasu Pitt was wonderful. Another Hal Roach classic. Thank you.
No, you are mistaken. Jack Haley played the Tin Man in the Judy Garland version from 1939. In the cast of Miss Polly was released in 1941. The cast does not include Jack Haley.
Sufferin' Sucatash ! Never even heard of this cute & heartwarming movie till now ! The late great Hal Roach sure know how to produce good comedies ! Thanks a lot for uploading for us to enjoy ! :-)
❤️😃I love these old classes because I find that it takes to another way to unstressed , laugh , unwinds with no violence or blood in it . A happy go lucky movie that makes you feel good .😃 ❤️ Keep up with these great movies❤️
GREAT MOVIE HAVE WATCHED IT OVER THE YEARS MANY TIMES HAPPY TO ENJOY IT AGAIN THANK YOU ZASU PITTS AND SLIM SUMMERVILLE ARE WONDERFUL THEY PLAY THEIR PARTS SO WELL IN ALL THEIR MOVIES
Yeah, wasnt Za Zu a hoot. She was always so funny, what a great actress she was.And Slim was fantastic too. These people sure had what it takes, to make a great movie !
@@RetiredSchoolCook Thanks Lucy, same to you ! These are such great movies, the old comedy's just cheer you up ! And helps get your day started off with a smile !
What a GREAT old film! Witty, funny, perfectly cast-it has it all with a subtle touch of tomfoolery! @PizzaFlix this has to be one of the BEST sauces you have ever put on a five-cheese pizza!! From the great ZaSu Pitts playing Miss Polly all the way down to Slim (the gardener and inventor), Minerva (neighbor), Patsy, and Eddie, they were all perfectly cast and had me laughing all through the film and that is rare! TY for posting this rare gem. That ending at the meeting where all the hypocrisy was exposed makes one realize that times do not change-only the people do.
I remember watching these kinds of movies on TV with my mother when I was a kid. They sure don't make movies like that anymore. No foul words or indecency. Everything clean and you still got the story. I'm glad RUclips can allow us these nostalgic moments. I miss that life.
I like this length. It suits me that 40s/50s flicks were so often under 90 minutes; I like a 50-80min film noir washed down with a 45-70min comedy, especially if the comedy has Zasu Pitts in it.
Love these old movies thanks. So innocent! Makes me wonder will we be watching any of our modern day movies in 70 years from now??? I think not, take 2018 all average movies nothing that I will watch next year let alone 77 years from now:-)
The part where Slim gets blown into the pond looks so real!! (Except the kitchen is on 1st floor & his clothes come out of 2nd floor) Great effects for an old movie. Makes me laugh every time🤣🤣
That was so delightful, and genuinely funny! Loved it. Thank you for uploading this classic! She was a lovely woman. ZaSu Pitts (Say-Zoo) born 1894, is a combination of names from her father's two sisters: Eliza and Susan. Her childhood home is still standing at 208 Lincoln Street, Santa Cruz, CA She married John E. Woodall, who was 6 yrs younger than her in 1933 (she was 40 yrs old), they remained married till she died at age 69 in 1963. He was born 1901and died 1988.
I'm only 16 minutes in and I enjoying myself so much! I almost didn't click because I was so sure that I had watched this before. I am so glad that I double checked. I love the furnishings of the home as well, especially the settee near the door. Thank you for the delightful entertainment. XOXO
This movie.. It's perfect. Every movies from 1920s to 1959 were perfect, that was the Golden Age of Hollywood. Look at movies now.. I wanna build that time machine to go back in time to the 1920, 30s, 40s and 50s!
Oh, I get it, 'Pandora Polly'; the writers named her *Pandora* because of what she lets out of the box, so to speak. This is a sweet old movie co-starring the great Zasu Pitts; I recall her from her appearances on Fibber McGee & Molly, and she was hilarious!
Movies from 1941 feel so... wistful. Makes you wonder how things would have gone if destiny hadn't had other plans. Well, for one thing we'da had _TV_ in 1942.
At 19:15, is the funniest line in the movie (after the cannon fire and all the mayhem)…"Oh, I wonder if Mrs. Snodgrass heard that". Bout blew my beer out my nose :-) Great Fun Flick! Thanks for the upload.
Oh my loved it and please make sure this one doesn’t hit the cutting floor and preserve it I would respectfully take a copy if I had the moneys....thank you for showing me this classic reel.....the black dog out.! Hip hip.
Delicious! Take one every day of lockdown and stay safe sit a smile. Seriously, it's lovely almost innocent comedy and just the right length for a bit of light relief. Thanks for the uload and k3ep up the good work.🙂🎥

Sooo funny and clever! Polly is extremely tolerant. A great gal! I have noticed that people made great movies in the 40's! I watch them all.
I'm a little more picky but when Zasu Pitts is the star that's good enough for me!
The 40's movies..my favorite
Most of the 40’s movies are great!!

LOL! Hal Roach does not disappoint! Great Comedy!!! Thanks for posting! :-)
The problem with this movie is it's too short. Wanted it to keep going. Thank you for uploading it.
I was thinking the same thing.
It was a so-called Streamliner, 40-50min Films which Hal Roach produced in the early 40s - they were supposed to be shown before the A picture
Same thing, IT'S THE BEST MOVIE!! I was laughing all the way to the end!
