What an awesome film with such a great message of true art appreciation over greed An the wonderful happy poetic justice ending A beautiful story! Thank you for posting!
My grandpa Frances Joesph Mallen Original ICC Director>> started painting beautiful pictures in his 80's Thanks to the greedmongers who littterally stole the very paintings and everything else off my grand parents and Aunt Margie's walls I have nothing but the memories in my heart.
There was also a very wonderful artist I had become very close to his name was Stefano Sideras he was from Greece. I had become very close friends with his daughter and family at one time
Mr Sideras paintings were one of a kind masterpieces I bought a few in payments while he was teaching my son to paint.
My paintings were stolen out of my storage unit in NJ after a few years I had passed.. I hoped no longer that they would ever be returned.
My most favorite ocean painting he did I had to sell to survive during this endless government cover up.
My favorite story about Mr. Sideras was the one he told me about while he was serving in the military During the Turkey invasion against Greece.
There was artillery being fired all around him while he was in a fox hole His CO came by to check on his soldiers and actually found him painting in the fox hole,! When his CO yelled; " Sideras what do you think you are doing His response was beyond the heart of a true artist; I am a painter I must paint"
His artwork had a very strong Monet presence in many of his beautiful pieces. Besides Van Gough and Monet Mr. Sideras is my only other favorite artist.
Mr. Sideras who had a very thick Greek accent came to our home with his wife and family once he was well up in age.
He came down my basement stairs to observe my collection of things. He was the only one ever who saw what I had collected ( all gone now of course) Not as just stuff rather Through the eyes if s true artist And with his heavy accent and child like wonder he responded ; Julia it looks like it's now here an American Museum. This wonderful film brought back some great memories for me watching my friend Angela's dad painting masterpieces first hand. And having the privilege to watch him teach my son and his grand children how to paint.
Artists like musicians are the memory books of our souls beauty expressed on canvas and lyrical harmonic flow that makes our world No matter the hardships a more beautiful place!
Thank you for posting this gemstone of a film! 😊

I loved Thelma Ritter ever since I was a child. She gave me a heart-warming feeling in all her outings of the 40's, 50's and 60's. She essayed character-parts like no other. The flow of her dialogue delivery was so very natural, you got the feeling that she was talking exclusively to you. She could take the place of your mother or aunt and those roles endeared her to the audience. It pained me to see her die in "Pickup on South Street" with Richard Widmark and Jean Peters; She was brilliant in "Ill Get By" with June Haver and Gloria DeHaven where she played the trouble-shooting assistant with ease. Thelma possessed a workaholism that helped escalate her cinematic currency. Many movie buffs would insist on seeing a movie just because Thelma had a featured part in it. That's the clout she commanded from the audience that loved her. I'll stick my neck out by stating that "there will never ever be another character actress who could rival Thelma Ritter's achievements!!!

What a treat this movie was, especially as I have a good friend who is a well-respected painter in Texas and this show is very germane to any painter who wants to be remembered.

I came across this accidentally and when I saw Thelma Ritter was in it I had to watch it. I have only one negative remark to make, it was too short. I admit the writer(s) created a screenplay that got across the key elements allotted for the short period of air time but this was well worth at least 90 minutes. The entire cast did fine jobs of portraying who they really were but who could take their eyes off Thelma Ritter? A great short story I highly recommend. I would love to have the portrait of her from this movie. I'll stop now before my comments exceed the length of this film. Thank you for posting this gem.

Thanks so much for posting this Alan - your channel is a delightful find of all sorts of gems! The wonderful Thelma Ritter was an incredible actress who had a record six Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actress - still unsurpassed today. Sadly, Thelma never was awarded the honor, but had this very talented lady lived longer (she unexpectedly passed away just before her 67 birthday) I think Hollywood would have rightly bestowed one upon her. Cheers to all!

I don't think enough accolades have been given to Ms. Ritter, and she deserves as many as any "star" she ever acted with. Drama or comedy were as natural to her as breathing. I haven't seen every project she was in, but some roles were mesmerizing. Just watch her go "head to head" with Bette Davis in "All About Eve". She leaves no survivors when she's done stealing a scene!!!
