- Situated above the North Valley on the edge of the bleak Pennine moors, Haworth is internationally famous for its connection with the Brontë sisters, who wrote their famous books while living at the Haworth Parsonage (which is now a museum, owned and maintained by the Brontë Society) while their father was incumbent parson at the adjacent Haworth church.
Several public footpaths lead out of the village, to the ‘wily, windy moors’ where Kate Bush sang, “We'd roll and fall in green…” Though perhaps the most famous walk leads past Lower Laithe Reservoir to the picturesque Brontë Falls, the Brontë Bridge, and the Brontë Stone Chair in which (it is said) the sisters took turns to sit and write their first stories.
This then leads out of the valley and up on the moors to Top Withens, a desolate ruin which was (reputedly) the setting for the eponymous Earnshaw and Heathcliff residence in Emily Brontës ‘Wuthering Heights’.
Also nearby is Ponden Hall (which is believed to be the house called Thrushcross Grange in "Wuthering Heights"). In this short video, you will also hear an instrumental version of Kate Bush’s ‘Wuthering Heights’. Amazingly, Kate Bush and Emily Brontë share the same birthday, which is on July 30th. The song "Wuthering Heights" by Kate Bush was inspired by Brontë’s novel of the same name.
My thanks goes to The Brontë House Museum for allowing me to take photographs within the Brontë House. And huge thanks to one of my all time favourite singers, the wonderful Kate Bush, for a life time of music, and without whom, I would never have discovered the delightful written works of the three Brontë Sisters.

Great place , stayed in Haworth twice lovely video thanks.
Last Sunday morning I was cruising on Loch Lomond, but this morning I have been transported to the wily windy moors. Different, but still beautiful. Has Kate Bush seen this David? Thanks for giving me such a special experience.

Thanks Karen.... I've never stopped listening to Kate Bush... from 1978 until today.... her albums 'Never Forever', 'Hounds of Love' and 'Aerial' are my favourites, but have all her albums, and her live album in 2016 'Before the Dawn' from her Concerts of 2014 is awesome. Blessings, shalom and thanks for your comments.
What a masterpiece! A wonderfully atmospheric introduction to Bronte country, David. I'd no idea the Yorkshire Moors were so beautiful. Thank you.
Thank you so much... the North Yorkshire moors are even nicer :) and closer to where we live - indeed, on our doorstep. Blessings.
So beautiful! One can not begin to imagine these lovely scenes. Thank you!
