    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
On a train ride from Montaux, Joel (Jim Carrey) encounters Clementine (Kate Winslet) for the first time.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
The second feature from director Michel Gondry (Human Nature) finds the filmmaker reteaming with screenwriter Charlie Kaufman for this off-the-wall romantic comedy. Jim Carrey stars as Joel Barish, a man who is informed that his ex-girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet) has had her memories of their relationship erased from her brain via an experimental procedure performed by Dr. Mierzwiak (Tom Wilkinson). Not to be outdone, Joel decides to have the same procedure done to himself. As Mierzwiak's bumbling underlings Stan (Mark Ruffalo) and Patrick (Elijah Wood) perform the operation on Joel -- over the course of an evening, in his apartment -- Joel struggles in his own mind to save the memories of Clementine from being deleted. Kirsten Dunst, David Cross, and Jane Adams also star.

This scene may come across as goofy, but it actually has an extremely sad undertone. (SPOILER WARNING)
In this movie, both of these characters undergo a procedure to erase each other from their memory. In a later flashback scene when they meet (for the first time), Joel cracks that Huckleberry Hound joke with her name before revealing that it played a prominent role in his childhood. But in this scene he has no recollection of the song. Clementine was so engraved in his mind that the mind erasing procedure took chunks of Joel's childhood away simply because the name "Clementine" and how infatuated he really was with her.

Birds_of_Dander he loves clementine but he isn’t mature and capable enough to express it to her in a healthy manner. He always bottled up his feelings through his journals and because of their increased personality differences (she wished for him to be more open emotionally which he was uncomfortable doing) it led to tension. And through this tension, joel began to internally criticize clementine’s supposed lack of intelligence, her impulsivity and her lack of responsibility. And he then outwardly outbursts his internal issues with clementine when she suggested they have children which is what led to the demise of their relationship. Joel was an incredibly flawed person as was clementine. They were both disrespectful of each other’s boundaries and were too selfish to compromise with each other. The movie tricks you into thinking joel learned his lesson but how could he if all the growth he expirenced was erased?

Jim Carrey has incredible control over his body, as we all know from his great comedic roles. But in something super subtle like this, he’s still expressing so much through the movement, or lack there of, in his body. He carries himself in this unlike he does in any other film. Still probably his best performance tbh.

I've been in a relationship like this, as an introverted male who doesn't really know how to interact with others super well, but still has a sensitivity and innocence that's attractive to women. But then it gets awkward hanging out with an introvert, who may be creative in some capacity but doesn't have a lot to offer personality wise past a certain point. It can be excruciating, knowing you are boring your partner away from you and you can't exactly change your stripes. Life is cruel to guys like Joel.

Because Carrey is simply a way better actor than DiCaprio... Winslet couldn't strike that chemistry with DiCaprio, not only in Titanic, but in Revolutionary Road as well where it felt like a competition between Kate and DiCaprio on who can overact, ham and chew the scenery the most and ruin the movie. DiCaprio brought out the worst tendencies of Kate, who otherwise is an absolutely unbelievable actress when she wants to be. On the other hand, look at Carrey and his demeanor here. He is so epic and subtle as an actor here, it's insane!! It feels genuine, CARREY feels genuine and that really helps bring the best out of both of them. This is Winslet's best acting performance on par with Mare Of Easttown. She should have won best actress that year and Carrey should have won male lead.

Recently rewatched this after ending a 6 year long relationship. So much I didn’t notice before I had the context to realize what it meant. The way he didn’t remember the huckleberry hound song. Because she was so important that the song became solely about her. It couldn’t ever possibly be JUST a song again, or something he knew, that everyone knows from childhood. From the moment they met it was clementine’s song. It was part of their story, but more than that too. Because he felt so much just for her name, and had such strong feelings about the song after he met her, they had to erase it. How when you love someone that much, their existence colors everything. Even the memories that came before them, even the things you already had and already knew. You know it all differently now, because of them.

I don't usually comment on these but this movie means a lot to me because my ex and i went through a difficult breakup, we were at first colleagues who fell in love, and then we were classmates. This semester we don't have classes together because i changed my schedule, it was too hard to maintain a friendship without falling in love again. So, we have the same cinema class but separately. Our final course is to write about a movie that we chose from the teacher's list. It had about 30 movies or so. We coincidentally both chose Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. We would always watch movies together, and even talked about this one, it was what made us fall in love even more, and the fact that we chose the same one means a lot to me. It's an ironic conclusion. This movie will always a special place in my heart, and him also.

Someone is waiting for me, someone who will be loving me genuinely is waiting for me. but the thing is that love is such an emotion that cannot calculate any consequences so I loved her, I loved her like the earth loves it's ocean, I loved her like a patriot loves his country, I loved her truely from my heart. I love my ex-girlfriend so much that I don't know whether I would be able to love another person whether she loves me genuinely or not. maybe my ex-girlfriend didn't love me but I loved her and that matters.
