- We crashed our narrowboat into a bridge, broke the chimney and dropped it in the canal... The reality of living on a narrowboat and cruising every day is that we have some difficult days. We are not having much luck on the Oxford canal and one particular day stood out the most. Sometimes even when we try doing everything right mistakes happen. We want to show you all sides of boat life and this was the first time when we attempted to film the challenging moments. I hope you learn from our mistakes.

"I will make it fit..." Priceless!!
If in doubt, get the hammer out
You may have had a bad day, but you were able to conjure a wonderful smile at the end, and that's what's important. I so enjoy your channel. Thanks for sharing your adventures!
Thanks Jim! In return its so lovely to share our journey and get to interact with kind people like you! Thank you for watching our films 😊
Reminded me of 40 years ago when on a family holiday ,me a youngster, taking dad's center copit along the Oxford..under a bridge and caught the sliding roof which was on struts, off it came, down into the canal. As dad shouted at me ,with boat still moving I jumped in and retrieved it.Massive dent to my pride...2 days later..dad did the same..haha.Think it's all part of it..can't say you did the Oxford unless you have some scrape.love you two,s vidios, chills me down and brings me so many happy memories.wish I could go boating again but can't due to ill health and money,so by watching your blogs gives me the fix.follow your dreams, your doing great..better to do it now when fit and healthy, than wish you had, when you can't 🥰
That's the kind of day when you just have to Skin-up, relax and put it down to experience
Aww bless you I hope you're feeling better now and have recovered from being all shook up, it is horrible when things go wrong and I no how it feels, it couldn't have been nice being out late at that time I am glad you are safe!
Just part of the learning curve. Just have fun and make memories. Stay safe :-)
Definitely!! Massive learning curve
Thanks for the video…don’t feel bad …( not a screw up ) life lesson 💜💜💜 stay safe and take care !!
Great vlog. Life throws us many obstacles, but with good humour we get through..... loved how you took it all with such humour
Thanks David 😊
life is for adventures. you will look back at these as the best of your lives !
Exactly!
You're such a lovely couple. I really enjoy your method of filming...you don't have the camera on the front of your boat...you show us what you are seeing on the banks and your surroundings. Your vegan meals look delicious.
Love watching your adventures
Grear vlog. Oh boy you did have a day of it. Makes the vlogs fun though. Glad it worked out ok in the end . Stay safe guys
Thanks Richard!! ❤️ the next vlog is drama free at least 😊
Great vlog.....yet again! Love your honesty xx
Thanks Jules. Trying to show it how it is... ❤️
Another brilliant vid. Mistakes were made but it turned out OK in the end.
You create very magical vlogs - very few have the knack!
Awww thank you so much, thats very kind!
Another smasher, what a wonderful section of canal, Cant wait for the next one x
That's the quietest I've ever seen Cropredy! It's usually starting to get busy for the annual music festival held on the second full weekend in August, but obviously it's all on hold till next year.
Hi John, that's probably because we filmed it in June.. Would have loved to see that place buzzing! Marina
"Apple-ing"!
Love it.
You two are doing great.
Ah that was fun even the mishaps, nicely recovered and safely moved on from, that’s the vibe I like. Catching up here and just made it to 999 likes. Would there have been a prize for 1000?
Thank you for another great vlog. It’s horrible when you have an off day, but so glad you found the mallet etc. 😊😊
Yep everything was found and fixed in the end... just need a new chimney 😊
Another great video. The honesty of showing when things don’t go perfectly really adds to the story. Also the reality of life and (I imagine) boat ownership!
For the kale, it looks like you can start picking the leaves, always pick from the bottom up. Check it under the leaves for butterfly eggs as they love kale. Just brush them off if you find any. For the chard, you can start picking the bigger leaves and it will keep growing all season.
What wonderful memories u2 are making.
Thanks Chris!
have just stumbled upon you guys, simply lovely, thank you. why on earth anyone would give you a thumbs down, jealous i guess.
Welcome, welcome! Awww that's very kind!
With all the ups and downs in this vlog, you still have groovy looking shoes. LOL
Sorry about your difficult day but life has a way of doing that. You handled it well.
Enjoy the good with the bad that’s life! Looks great even if you have a bad day! Love the hummus especially the beetroot idea
Its so yummy, you should try it!
We all have accidents whether there small or big, life is full of them as long as no one is hurt every thing else can be fixed. I must admit u wear some really flowing clothes that suit u for canal life😊. Lovely shots of u both cruising taking the scenery in, thanks for a great vlog. Hope u enjoy the forth coming week, stay safe till next week. 😊👍. Simon
Thanks you Simon!! Flowy clothes is a must for the hot weather 😊
Don't get down on yourself Marina just put it down as part of life's rich pattern and experience,At least Buddah survived and all the rest can be fixed .....and despite all the problems I still enjoyed the vlog . My grandmother used to grow lavender and she would sew little bags stuffed with lavender which she put into drawers etc where she kept her clothes.
Cheers,take care
Hi Ralph, i love lavender, ive got a massive tub if it from my mum. What a lovely idea!
The pollen looks like you were being blessed with sparkly fairy dust 🧚🏻♀️🧚🏻♂️x
Haha I'd rather think that too
Just had a wonderful Saturday morning cruise with you dont worry about things going wrong that's life at least you have each other believe me that's more important please take care and thankyou
So true. Thank you Nelson!
Sorry you had such a stressful day x
Every time I think about it, I feel a wave of gratitude for the calmness of the present moment. It put a lot of "normal" days into a positive spectrum in comparison. Thank you so much for watching you two, it means so much to us 💜 xx
Hi guys, you do get somedays where everything goes wrong and the whole world seems to be having a go.
They always seems worse when its your home too.
If you are going all the way south watch out for bridge 228: that is deceptively low and will clear your roof.
Thank you for letting us know! We has gone pass that now as the videos are 2 months behind, but I might have crashed there too...
Oh shoot you guys! We are buying a narrowboat and cannot wait!
You have to take the good with the bad days, and that wasn't a good day for you. At least you smiled your way through it. Nice video
Thanks Mick, definitely
Found your channel! Love it.
Love the reality!! You have amazing colour eyes too... Keep up the vlogs 👍👍
Paint the mallet handle a bright yellow . So as not to forget on the bank again.!!!
Accidents happen, the main thing is nobody was injured, items can be replaced, just continue to enjoy your lifestyle together x.
Agreed! 😊
Great vlog as usual. Bet the silver haired lot loved your problems, "young whippersnappers coming along and enjoying themselves, bah humbug".
Why is it that things all seem to go wrong at once? 😂 Thought you handled things with grace and positivity. No one is perfect, and these things happen. Big hug to you!
Thank you Tabitha!
Hello from Denmark. thanks for your vidio. You should try to make Elderflower Pancakes it tastes good. Stay safe :-)
Hi, you have done a very good vlog and you present very well, we don't seem to see miles as much as you and we wonder why. I have shown people here in new Zealand your video and they will start watching it too. keep the good work up. John in NZ... Kai-ora,
Thank you John! That’s so kind of you to share it, we love that ❤️ Im not sure if you’ve seen the Q&A and the news episodes but Myles is working from home and I was made redundant so I have a lot more time to film and edit. Some episodes will be more than him at least for now. 😊
What a first Day ! Hi There. I'm glad day two was better.
Regular viewer now I have found you. By the way how is the Bench?
What a good idea permanently on the roof.
Hi Robert! The bench is ok, just a few minor scratches :)
That kale and those bet greens are ready for salad...well...I do so with mine at that growth stage. Anyhoo...incidents are either 'learning opportunities' - that is, unless you do the same again...and again. Love the Buddha too and the video as well! Stay safe - be well - many blessings.
Thanks Ross!
Try getting rid of all the stuff on top, you may be able to see clearer!
Its all useful stuff for living aboard 😊
Amazing video guys! Well done with dealing with the day of adventure and challenges. Love, Zoe and Oli (nephew). Oli says how did you find the chimney, did you have to go into the water? x x x
Hey Zoe and Oli, thank you both for watching! I got the chimney out of the water from the dingy with a magnet 🧲 so no I didn’t have to go in ❤️ Have a lovely day you two 😘
Looks like the swans want some if ur tea.
That canal looks cold & dirty.
Miles should have taken the chimney off. All part of the boating experience 😂 enjoy your journey
For sure!
We all have bad days.
Hi we love your channel. Make sure you put antifreeze in the engine water before winter. Really you are best topping up with the correct mix as it's an inhibitor and a good thing.. or maybe you did in which case sorry, I just had to say😆
Thank you! We have dont that but was given a wrong advise for the water/antifreeze ratio...
@@CruisingAlba can't go wrong with 50/50
Have a lovey day.
Good video thank you guys
You should not store your bikes in front of the door like you do, if there was a fire at the back of the boat you would not be able to escape from the front door.
Look up Cropredy festival for next time you're on the Oxford 😀💜
Love this channel and have eyes that are so beautiful, must have been delivered by a angel 👍
Oops. Is it very expensive to get another chimney, can u get a 2and hand one ??xx
nice vloggs i wonder though how you survive as it costs money to live
Hi Dave, watch Q&A and We have news videos :)
@@CruisingAlba i know you are going pay and watch Patrian good luck im not paying
"For this recipe you will need ..."
But you didn't look at us severely over half-moon spectacles!
Worst things happen at sea.......nothing damaged that can't be fixed.....and no humans were harmed in the making of this Vlog......stay safe.....
Exactly! Its not so bad after all
@@CruisingAlba I was on HMS Ardent in 1982 in the Falklands.....so I know all about war at sea.......sadly humans can't be replaced.....stay safe xx.....
Seems to be a typical problem knocking the chimney off the roof. As for forgetting the mallet, well stuff happens. With about a hundred more of the crawfish, you could have yourself a nice crawfish boil or make some crawfish etouffee.
Good point!
Love canal holiday me ,
Hi David, thank you so much for watching. We hope you get to go on your dream canal boat holiday soon! 💜
💜
No doubt you will up a gear and be more switched on in future vlogs.
They say things come in three, there you go you’re covered for mistakes for the rest of the year.
Thats would be nice!
A really old map one from the eighties 😂😂😂😂😂. I from the fifties I must be old as God himself 😂😂😂😂😂
Seen loads of different narrowboat videos from people on RUclips where before they set off they check the oil and water, why? Ok I understand its precautionary but you wouldn't do that with a car diesel engine, are these engines badly built to the point they constantly leak everywhere?
And chimneys should have a target 🎯 painted on them.
Ok, there is one absolute truth to understand and accept regarding both bridges and bends on any canal, particularly narrow or tight bends and its this........you will always meet some one coming in the opposite direction at these times . yep its true, its sods law, so you need to be ready before you get there. im not trying to teach you to suck eggs here, just trying to help.
so try the following....whoever is closest to the bridge or bend has right of way, its not a rule just an accepted way of getting on with fellow boaters, in order to take your right of way, or to give way, you need to be traveling at the right speed and have your boat in the right position on the water . with regard to speed you make your choices based on what you can see in front of you, the more you can see the better choice you will make, so if you would be willing to reduce the amount stuff you are carrying on the roof of your boat you will have better sight lines and little or no visual distraction and make the right choice regarding speed, with regard to your position on the water particularly when approaching a bridge try this... first note which side of the canal the tow path is on, then note the key stone ( center stone) in the arch of the bridge, as you approach the bridge draw an imaginary line downward from the key stone to the gutter handrail on the roof of your boat , if the tow path is on the right line up the key stone and the right gutter hand rail and you will find your positioning is perfect for passing under the bridge, like wise if the tow path is on the left, line up keystone with left gutter handrail, .............you get the picture. the above suggestion is one of the reasons you might consider reducing the distractions of stuff on the roof of your boat .
happy cruising .
Sh@t happens. Lesson learned.
Some days at Diamonds and some are ####### As long as you are alive ad kicking forget about broken chimneys and lost hammers. I've been shot in the neck( the pellet is still in there), Hit by a car. Fallen from the top of a really big maple tree. Lost hammers are to be laughed at.
So sorry to hear that, wow! This definitely is not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things but so much happened in one day and we wanted to tell it how it is. Take care!
@@CruisingAlba those things all happened long ago and I forgot the catching on fire one. I was a little over two years old then. I’ve had a pretty good life with hopefully more to come. I’m 66 now and my 2 year old daughter is keeping me hopping.
Apple trees do not breed true so your's will probably be a crabapple, small and sour but still good for cooking or you could win the lottery and have a new variety.
Haha thank you for letting us know!
Crayfish is uh.... Funny business.... If you catch and release a signal crayfish you can be fined, (Unlikely, but you can be) if it is a native (It wasn't) and you don't release it, you can be fined...(And definitely will be)
Native Crayfish have white claws where that red stripe is on the claw of that crayfish.
Interesting! Thank you for sharing 😊
You guys must be getting baked this last couple of days?
DO you drove your car with all your shopping and household goods on the bonnet ? So why carry loads of stuff on your cabin top? Doing so limits your vision to a dangerous level … and you hit things. This time it was light damage, next time could be more serious. Learn the lesson and do not treat the cabin top as a storage area. Enjoy your boating but please do it safely
