  • This was just a quick shakedown ride out, before our Leeds Liverpool canal ride later in the week. I have slightly changed my setup, so wanted to feel how it handled and see if there was any issues.
    Also I give a few tips on travelling with your bike on trains, how to make the journey less traumatic…
    This will apply to train operating companies around the country , so best to check each individual company website you will possibly be travelling on.

    The train that I use always directs me to walk my bike down the aisle- don’t know why. But seeing the slimmer pack that you use being more vertical would make sense for me to pack the bike the way you do. Good points made here -appreciate your post 🌿🧘🏼🙏

      That seems rather odd , but yeah having no panniers on means you can navigate the aisle . atb Dave 🚲⛺️👍

    I plan to travel by train from Belgium (Brussels) to France (Nevers) with my bicycle. Hopefully everything will go well.
    In Belgium you must buy a bicycle ticket (not possible on all trains and no guarantee that there will be room for your bicycle)
    In France, transport of your bicycle is free on the TER trains (no guarantee that there will be room for your bicycle). You can reserve a place for your bicycle on the Intercitie trains.
    I will have a mix of these types of trains, so it will be exciting.

    Nice one Dave - I'm actually booked on a train north with my Bike tomorrow, then I'm gonna see if I can cycle home over a few days, first time I've done anything like that, booked the tickets a few weeks ago so no worries there regarding a space for Bike. Great advice about having a word with the guards and being ready to board as soon as possible etc. Wish me luck lol. My Bike set-up looks loads different to yours, but I can see your logic regarding your new set-up. It looks smart and functional.
    I treated myself to some new panniers as my old ones weren't big enough for a multi-day trip. Have a good one on the canal paths, look forward to seeing the vid :)

      Great stuff Donna , are you going with LNER if so it’s a very small space 😂 , if TPE or northern you will have more room. Have a great trip and look forward to seeing your trip too as I have not camped since Feb ! Atb Dave

      Thanks, just back from Leeds trip 😂 , mudguards are just off cuts from old ones that I pieced together. Atb Dave

    Great video Dave with some useful info. I just bought new panniers for my bike yesterday as I got my old ones out the loft and they had rotted away it’s been that long in fact about 25 years when I did a tour of the Yorkshire dales with my 12 year old daughter then. So hopefully I’ll shall do a trip this year.
    I didn’t know you had a cycling Chanel too.
    The bike looks fantastic mines rather old.
    Cheers and ATB

    Dave, do you change your gear settings when you do different rides

      @davesolobiker5601  4 месяца назад +1

      I fitted a larger rear cog last year so I can attack hills better and I also fitted a smaller front ring. Hills are a little easier these days.
