I just want people to know that I am a dark skinned, short, small eyed, natural kinky curly haired African American girl and I had no trouble getting asked out by Korean guys while living in Korea. If you embrace the culture and the language then your chances will increase. I am not saying they wanted to marry me ha, but if you are respectable and have a nice personality, you will be fine. At one point it became overwhelming and that made me feel uncomfortable ha. I am not really use to getting a lot of attention. Anways, do not go to Korea specifically for guys. Oh my goodness. I am SO SURPRISED about how many countries Koreans know! Here in Okinawa, I'm pretty sure many of my students have never even heard of Uzbekistan. (Today I was asked where Fiji is.) Maybe you could find a way or a reason to return to the same interviewees over time like for example now you ask them about Americans, then you ask them to watch some American program they wouldn't have seen and then come back to them to see if it changed their view. I dunno, just throwing stuff out there. I do think your talent is pretty faceted and diverse, but this really felt like a genuine tv item or something. There really could be more there even.

Teeheehee... I've had similar responses from my husband's friends. Though Koreans in their 30s seem a little more "shy" and "weary" of meeting/dating/marrying foreigners. I'm not sure if it's a generational gap, but it's interesting to see how a couple of years within a sample of people can alter their perspective on the same issue! Great video, as always

I feel like a lot of people think Koreans only date white people and aren't attracted to black or brown people. Id say they do favour whites over others but it really depends on the person! I'm the product of a black man and Korean woman, in my Korean family I have some who won't date outside of Korean people, then I have some family who are married to whites blacks and Indians. So it's all just personal and what a person is attracted to. I feel the need to clarify on this because there are LOTS of darker skinned people who really like Koreans and Korean culture and language but are afraid because of some of the things they hear from others!

I really like when people do segments like this, it can help give a glimpse of the cultural differences. I wonder how honest they were with the dating/marrying a foreigner question. Isn't there a lot of pressure from family to date and marry a Korean person if you are Korean?
Times are changing in Korea, and I think the perceptions of Koreans should too. I personally know of so many Koreans who have dated and married foreigners. And in my own Korean family (my mother's side, since I'm a mixed Korean-White race) have married German, Chinese, and an Hungarian.
For me, when I'm at work, I feel heavily disrespected when foreigners don't even look at me when I'm serving them, no replied greeting, put money on the counter and shove it at me when my hand is out and snatch the receipt from me without saying thank you. It happens a fair bit, especially with many Asians. My mum does some of the stuff to to an extent, but but definitely not all of it like many actually do, including scrutinising every last detail of a receipt. I love serving people, but it makes me sad when they don't really show any appreciation for what I did for them, especially when there's self serve registers around. I know some may not be able to read English (living in a capital city, there's a high population of foreigners), but a smile, hello or thank you goes a long way. What I do love is when foreigners can't speak English that well, they still try their best to speak it because I'm happy to assist someone who is in need of help. People have helped me out overseas and I always try to grasp the absolute basic phrases before going to those countries, so I want to pay the same respect when needed.

As a swedish person in korea I get a lot of comments that guys are handsome etc in my country . Hehe though I don't think so ONLY in big cities and often swedish guys have an awful attitude towards "everyone" :( a lot of unnecessary skinship and very sexual words or almost aggressive ones I can get all the time in sweden... (In korea: you are pretty / beautiful sometimes sexy In sweden: Hey sexy! Come here u wanna play? -happens even in daylight grrrr) (though not EVERYONE are like that of course! !!) Very interesting and I didn't know a hug could be disrespectful omg I will be more careful... :S ~^-^~
I must have met all the good guys from around Motala, Linköping, Halmstad, Stockholm, Sälen and Göteborg then! They never said such things to me, even at clubs (and I hate going to clubs generally because of the things you stated). They were all really nice!
"You are handsome", "you are beautiful", are often thrown thoughtlessly at foreigners by Koreans. You could be 6 ft tall drop dead gorgeous, or you could be 4 ft tall ugly, Koreans will still say, "you are beautiful, you are handsome".

But in generally I was talking about drunk people (didn't mention that sorry) and even bad and scary people are nicer in korea because they almost only with alcohol dares even talk to you but yes there is bad guys in korea too but I feel.its less then in sweden althouh there was an attack just this week where I live now but its more in sweden. In sweden in the middle pf the street in day light I was walking alone (I'm not from stockholm) and I got 5 big and scary sexual harassments even though I wasn't dressed sexy or did anything special. Still 2 drunk people and then at least 8 people that was in cars or screaming at you... NO CLUBS just the streetfor example torgen på gamla stan. Green areas etc. I have many friends from france here in korea and yes what I heard its very much worse! !! I also been to italy 2times and met people from southern europeand and i feel like they mind you business more then in sweden. There is many nice guys in sweden but also generally they have a ( in stockholm nyköping göteborg norrköping what i know about) attitude of " so I know I'm handsome and I'm the best party guy" attitude and they can be so falsely bitchy and yeah very much the attitude of I'm best. If they are alone maybe they are more them selfs but in groups BEFORE u actually talk to them and get to know them they can have an awful attitude. Also a lot of foreigners in sweden have an very bad view of women and they even in group followed me by the afternoon from my bus etc very uncomfortable because they talked to me very self-confidently and very skinship :'( I'm very open minded to people so this havent got to me much but other girls are not that confident as me and in nyköping before I left a guy actually went around in daylight afternoon with a broken bottle and followed women and attacking them. Nyköping is not a big city :/
***** I am Spanish and when I was in France for a month I noticed such a ridiculous difference; I had never felt as threatened as I did there. No matter where you were, some guy would try to hit on you (or touch you, or talk to you, or follow you, or hit you, or try to do worse things I don't even want to mention). So it was a little dangerous to have a walk by yourself during the day - which was absolutely impossible at nightime (unless you wanted something reeally bad happening to you). Those things had never happened to me in Spain, so I do not think all Southern Europe is like that, not in the very least! :) Actually, whenever I see those videos that condemn harrassing (like "woman walking 10 hours in NY", etc) I am so thankful for living in Madrid hahah. Everything is so calm here. Our problem is more related to robbery I guess - _ -' lol

Oh my goodness. I am SO SURPRISED about how many countries Koreans know! Here in Okinawa, I'm pretty sure many of my students have never even heard of Uzbekistan. (Today I was asked where Fiji is.) Maybe you could find a way or a reason to return to the same interviewees over time like for example now you ask them about Americans, then you ask them to watch some American program they wouldn't have seen and then come back to them to see if it changed their view. I dunno, just throwing stuff out there. I do think your talent is pretty faceted and diverse, but this really felt like a genuine tv item or something. There really could be more there even.

I'm not sure if it's a generational gap, but it's interesting to see how a couple of years within a sample of people can alter their perspective on the same issue! Great video, as always

I feel like a lot of people think Koreans only date white people and aren't attracted to black or brown people. Id say they do favour whites over others but it really depends on the person! I'm the product of a black man and Korean woman, in my Korean family I have some who won't date outside of Korean people, then I have some family who are married to whites blacks and Indians. So it's all just personal and what a person is attracted to. I feel the need to clarify on this because there are LOTS of darker skinned people who really like Koreans and Korean culture and language but are afraid because of some of the things they hear from others!
People in general are not attracted to the Black people because they are the poorest. People in general are attracted to the White people because they are the richest. Just deal with it. Get over with skin color thing.

I really like when people do segments like this, it can help give a glimpse of the cultural differences. I wonder how honest they were with the dating/marrying a foreigner question. Isn't there a lot of pressure from family to date and marry a Korean person if you are Korean?
Times are changing in Korea, and I think the perceptions of Koreans should too. I personally know of so many Koreans who have dated and married foreigners. And in my own Korean family (my mother's side, since I'm a mixed Korean-White race) have married German, Chinese, and an Hungarian.
For me, when I'm at work, I feel heavily disrespected when foreigners don't even look at me when I'm serving them, no replied greeting, put money on the counter and shove it at me when my hand is out and snatch the receipt from me without saying thank you. It happens a fair bit, especially with many Asians. My mum does some of the stuff to to an extent, but but definitely not all of it like many actually do, including scrutinising every last detail of a receipt.
I love serving people, but it makes me sad when they don't really show any appreciation for what I did for them, especially when there's self serve registers around. I know some may not be able to read English (living in a capital city, there's a high population of foreigners), but a smile, hello or thank you goes a long way.
What I do love is when foreigners can't speak English that well, they still try their best to speak it because I'm happy to assist someone who is in need of help. People have helped me out overseas and I always try to grasp the absolute basic phrases before going to those countries, so I want to pay the same respect when needed.
It is not because you are a foreigner - they do that in US too. Some people are just rude no matter what.

"You are handsome", "you are beautiful", are often thrown thoughtlessly at foreigners by Koreans. You could be 6 ft tall drop dead gorgeous, or you could be 4 ft tall ugly, Koreans will still say, "you are beautiful, you are handsome".

But in generally I was talking about drunk people (didn't mention that sorry) and even bad and scary people are nicer in korea because they almost only with alcohol dares even talk to you but yes there is bad guys in korea too but I feel.its less then in sweden althouh there was an attack just this week where I live now but its more in sweden.
In sweden in the middle pf the street in day light I was walking alone (I'm not from stockholm) and I got 5 big and scary sexual harassments even though I wasn't dressed sexy or did anything special. Still 2 drunk people and then at least 8 people that was in cars or screaming at you... NO CLUBS just the streetfor example torgen på gamla stan. Green areas etc.
I have many friends from france here in korea and yes what I heard its very much worse! !! I also been to italy 2times and met people from southern europeand and i feel like they mind you business more then in sweden.
There is many nice guys in sweden but also generally they have a ( in stockholm nyköping göteborg norrköping what i know about) attitude of " so I know I'm handsome and I'm the best party guy" attitude and they can be so falsely bitchy and yeah very much the attitude of I'm best. If they are alone maybe they are more them selfs but in groups BEFORE u actually talk to them and get to know them they can have an awful attitude.
Also a lot of foreigners in sweden have an very bad view of women and they even in group followed me by the afternoon from my bus etc very uncomfortable because they talked to me very self-confidently and very skinship :'(

***** I am Spanish and when I was in France for a month I noticed such a ridiculous difference; I had never felt as threatened as I did there. No matter where you were, some guy would try to hit on you (or touch you, or talk to you, or follow you, or hit you, or try to do worse things I don't even want to mention). So it was a little dangerous to have a walk by yourself during the day - which was absolutely impossible at nightime (unless you wanted something reeally bad happening to you). Those things had never happened to me in Spain, so I do not think all Southern Europe is like that, not in the very least! :) Actually, whenever I see those videos that condemn harrassing (like "woman walking 10 hours in NY", etc) I am so thankful for living in Madrid hahah. Everything is so calm here. Our problem is more related to robbery I guess - _ -' lol
I seriously never got the side of Swedish guys you're talking about talking to me; they were all genuinely nice and not saying anything degrading or disrespectful to someone unknown to them...even when I lived there and travelled to various cities/towns.

Do most Koreans agree with what the lady said at 3:08? I wouldn't hug someone who's much older or a stranger, but as soon as I get a little more familiar with someone of my generation, I give him/her a hug when I say goodbye. I thought I was showing my genuine appreciation for the person, but now I'm worried that I might have offended some people by doing so! Anyone care to share their opinion on this matter?
I think that ties into their 'skin ship' etiquette, which is mainly between close people and in private, I gather.

Not sure if it's the same, but in Japan, as a man of colour, i realised that people would sometimes look at me whereas in the uk where i live, no one does.
Dog Guy I think in the UK, we have people of all skin colours and ethnicity, so it doesn't bother us as much or we just don't notice as much. I never really notice and I've lived in the UK all my life. XD Either that, or I don't pay attention to things like that.
