I can’t believe this was done in the shoestring budget everything it’s amazing!! You’re tempting me to prep and rattle can the new non runner I just bought
@@yorkshirecarrestoration I was just going to ask compressed air or electric spray gun and you have answered that. I have a large compressor so decision taken!
@@drumtochtyglen You can get results with an electric spray gun but they don't usually produce enough pressure so don't atomise the paint near enough. :)
The owner must really love that MX5, to fund such extensive work on a car most would've likely scrapped. A great project to showcase your amazing skills though, bringing something so far gone back to life. They'll be thrilled with the result I'll bet!
My daughter is using hers as her test mule. Home paint jobs, learning lots of repairs, we wrapped it once and now we’re about to do body work and a repaint. She and I watch tons of videos and whatever I don’t already know we learn together
Great video and some questions, I do think that it is harder than it looks due to your experience in the trade. 1) What volume of primer is needed to do the three coats shown? 2) What volume of topcoat is required and how many coats would you assume? 3) What volume of clear lacquer and how many coats? 4) You guys use professional spray guns, what sort of price do you have to pay for a decent gun for us punters to get a good finish? 5) I have an insulated garage with plenty space, what stable temperature would be best to allow the paint to flash off?
Hi Eddie, the answer to your question would have to be vague as it's all down to the spray gun and the person applying it, I can however tell you what I would use :) 1,i would use a 1lt primer pack for a full car, that's 1lt and enough harder for it. 2, I'm guests you mean Base coat, Ie the silver metallic we are going to apply next, that would be again about 1lt as it's mechanical xed 50/50 with thinners. 3, laquer again would be a 1lt laquer pack that also includes enough gardener for 1lt of laquer. 4, I have had just as good results with a spray gun worth £50 off of eBay, the more exspensive ones do give a better finish and last longer but mainly they are just easier and nicer to use. 4, temperature we don't bother with. Our spray booth is hot when it's got outside and very cold when the weather is bad, if it's very cold effecting you tack off and dry times just use a faster hardener or add a little rocket to make it set faster. You will need it to set fast enough or it will collect a lot of dust as it's drying making for a hard car to finish.
Hi Karen. 2k primer and 2k paint combined with good quality making take dosnt bleed under, the 2k will tack off in about 5 mins and won't move from there so dosnt have enough time to soak anywhere :)
I actually found this film really useful… especially the mixing ratios. Excellent
Glad it was of some use :)

Go for it jess, but I would hire a small compressor and buy a cheap spray gun instead :)
@@yorkshirecarrestoration a friend has one so might look into that

Hi bazer, yes the owner loves the car but a lot of the work has been funded by ourselves as we though it would be good content as you say :) 👍
