Those cops were just bullshitting. Things falls off vehicals all the time not just a go pro.
It’s not an actual vehicle code. Officer is mistaken. He’s confusing it for an old motor code that didn’t allow alterations to the helmet itself I believe.
IK some states have laws against attachments to helmets, something like "No helmet should have any after market attachments protruding greater than 2 inches." It's actually a "catch" hazard. If you fall and it hooks onto something, it could pull the helmet off or even jerk your head and damage your neck.
But GoPros have plastic attachments, so they should just break before that happens.

i've had two fly off trucks on my way to work once the guy kept driving and i told him through my window and i guess he went and got it then again on the same highway in about the same spot but that guy slammed on the brakes and got it i guess... both times everyone was dodging it and it was funny but nothing was hurt but its true! they really do fly off trucks more often than not if you travel enough.

But let's not kid ourselves, it starts of as a check point and it quickly turns into a revenue earning tactic/excuse as well as a way for certain officers to abuse their authority. I've lived in that city damn near my whole life, this is nothing new.

Lived in New York my whole life and pretty much everyone i know including myself has dealt with some form of corruption within our legal system. I just went through a $12,000 supreme court case to prove my innocence because the 8 officers present on the night of the incident refused to take statements from all witnesses. NYS is majorly fucked up

You apparently have a problem with listening. The cop said his radar sounds an alarm at "143 mph, you were doing 145 mph". Sometimes being alert to what is actually said can save you from a beat down. I suggest you either get a hearing aid or listen more closely.

I don't know how it works in the US but here in the UK,if a policeman stops you for speeding while using a hand held radar gun you should ask to see the calibration certificate for the device,a number of riders and drivers caught "speeding" by a hand held radar gun have had their cases dismissed because the accuracy of the radar device cannot be verified.

Simple fact...the cops are WRONG about helmet mounted GoPro cameras. The law specifically states that they cannot be rigid mounted, meaning that they can't be bolted or screwed to the helmet. GoPros are mounted using clamps, so it's a non-issue. This isn't just happening in places like New York, it's happening in year round riding states like Florida, Alabama, Texas, Georgia, Mississippi, and Louisiana.
That motorcycle checkpoint in NY is illegal and unconstitutional. What did the rider do wrong? Nothing. They stopped him for no reason and tried to say he can’t have the GoPro and then couldn’t find the statute. I wouldn’t stop. I’d just keep driving and ask for a supervisor once hey inevitably give chase.

I live in NYC. Riding my bike in New York is great so long as you stay out of NYC. Especially Manhattan and Queens/Long island. That's where they tend to have most of these checkpoints.

Motorcycle checkpoint? Wtf is that lol. The things people allow to continue astonishes me. What happened to needing some form of probable cause/reasonable suspicion a crime has occurred for a police stop? Granted if there is a law on the books regarding camera equipment on the helmet that would get you caught up, but I'm very happy to live in a state where police still need a reason to stop you.
It’s not illegal. The manufacturers have to abide by the federal standard when they make the helmets, not the riders after production and purchase. Moreover, the standard states no “rigid” projections. This is not the case for gopro or their mounts because they would come off in the event of an impact and Mohawks are not rigid either. I love cops and I have always appreciated their valor and love for their people, but idiots who have power trips and make up things just for their own benefit disgust me and this whole checkpoint was ran very unprofessionally if it was even legal to begin with. 😒

It's not because it's potential debris, it's because it protrudes more than 2mm from the surface of the shell and can cause the helmet to not function correctly if an impact occurs to where the object is mounted. If the reasons he gave were true, then every single car on the road that has been "auto zoned out" with fake scoops and other crap would be pulled over and given citations, which is not the case. typical harassment from the asshats in blue.
