    When my daughter was 6 our neighbor became pregnant and that's when my daughter decided she wanted to know where babies come from. The year before she'd asked and when I started to tell her she stopped me and decided she didn't want to know. But now she did because she was afraid she would get pregnant. I couldn't convince her that at 6 she didn't need to worry about it. So I start to tell her and she wanted more detail. I would give her more and ask if she wanted me to continue. She would narrow her eyes and sigh and say "Yes. Tell me." She ended up hearing the whole story. When I finished she just stared at me and narrowed her eyes. I said "Are you OK? Do you have any questions?" She said "Yeah. I'm ok. But Mommy?" I said "Yes baby. What is it?" She said " Adults are VERY WEIRD." 😂😂😂 I said "Yes they are."

    Too funny! I am a mom with ADHD. Despite my best efforts, I still have a tendency to zone out and be forgetful. When my oldest was in Kindergarten, we kept forgetting to return her take home folder. She meant to tell the teacher that we forgot the folder because I was day dreaming but instead she told the teacher that we forgot it because I was day DRINKING. Luckily the teacher thought it was hilarious and couldn’t wait to tell me but it was still humiliating 🤣

      I sympathize with you. I would like to be a micro organizer out of sight tight but like you I cannot remember where things are so, I have to have things in plain sight. Which is messy I can’t even put them in big bins because I wouldn’t remember what is in the bin. My solution only works some of the time is class stored cabinets and tags on the containers. Of course they have to be nice containers that match and that’s always a struggle too. Let me know if you come up with some of their methods. Also let me know if you know of any ADHD groups I could join. Thanks and good luck be well, Karen

    I’m a butterfly like 70% of the time and a bee 30% of the time. I noticed paperwork and hobbies (so my office) is my bee domain. Everywhere else I’m 100% a butterfly. My partner is 100% a ladybug. Once I figured this all I spent 5 days decluttering and reorganizing the kitchen. It’s visual to a point, it’s super macro and I compromised and got a pantry (technically an ikea wardrobe) and got a bunch put away in the there. It’s so functional for both of us now! After spending 3 years hating the apartment layout we’re finding harmony one room at a time!!

    Thank you for the in-depth explanation! I had taken the quizzes before, but was always confused - if I like hidden organizing, why are there (organized) piles of things out? Aha, so I *am* a cricket. I love macro organizing, because it's quicker and easier to maintain, but some things just. need. to. be. sorted. ("No, you canNOT put crayons and markers in the same bin!!!") This also makes me realize that my daughter is very visual (maybe a butterfly, or maybe just a typical nine-year-old!), and I need to adjust my organizational plans and methods for her space to reflect that.

    Oh my goodness! That is hilarious!! As far as organizing types, I am definitely a bee. My husband is a ladybug. It drives me crazy when he "helps clean" because he just throws everything anywhere and everywhere to get it out of sight. The cluttered countertop drives him nuts. I usually end up with a mess everywhere because I never have time to put it away properly (I have 3 kids, 5yr, 3yr, and 2yr) , so I leave it out. But even when its a mess, I know where everything is. Changing to a more Macro organizing has helped tremendously. Its much easier for my kids to help pick up. When I clean their toys, I organize EVERYTHING like all the way down to separating the play food into categories. Hahaha Its pointless because 5 min later its all destroyed. Changing to more of a Macro style has also helped because it is a lot faster.

Everything needs a home because I will forget where I put my stuff. So going minimal has helped me so much! Decluttering has helped my insanity and my inner cheapness not to keep buying! I want a basic minimal way I dont have to buy tons of organizational systems I have to keep up with too. The few ideas I've learned from you, so far, have really really opened up a lot for me. Our apartment is small and only getting smaller. Our living room is the family room, dining room, music room, art room (painting, mosaic, paper machè, library, study room, playroom and gaming room. And yes, it's chaos! ROFL!!! Kids..OMG. I was a surprise baby (my Mom was in her 40's) and the saying in the family was my Father "poked in fun but Mom took him serious"' As a kid I never had any idea what it meant but I sure learned to parrot it at the most unfortunate times..cringe. We all have those moments. Thanks for all your organizing help/tips. Love your show and I hope there are a million more episodes. The transformations are so inspiring. I could never figure out if I was a ladybug or a cricket so good to know that you can have tendencies of each.

    My 10 year old daughter is now 'perfecting' your Clutterbug-organisation system! LOL! You have 4 types of bugs, but little did you know that there are actually..... *takes a quick look on the whiteboard* 14 different clutterbugs ;-) Up to now that is. Big chance that there will be like 16 of 17 tomorrow, because that list on the whiteboard (we have a BIG whiteboard) is growing by the day ;-) It's hilarious! She understands english a little bit (we are from Holland) but she LOVES your pictures about the 4 different bugs (ladybug, cricket, etc)
    And then she grabbed a whiteboard pen.... Two days later, say goodbye to your 4 clutterbug-system Cas, cause well... it's time for an upgrade, hahaha!
    Did you know that earthworms are people who *peeks at the whiteboard again* like visual abundance, but like to put their toys in big bins behind closed doors, they don't mind doing dishes but always forget to bring the dishes to the kitchen? That's an earthworm for ya!
    And she is convinced that she is a caterpillar because according to her system, caterpillars are people who really want to be tidy and want to help mom keep everything clean and tidy but just forget to put their toys away all the time and they want everything out on display so they can easily play with everything and they don;t like toys behind doors because then you forget what you have got. Caterpillars love books and craft supplies but no dolls of girly stuff. Oh, and caterpillars also don't mind doing the dishes, just like earthworms ;-)
    So yeah, I have got a caterpillar in tha house ;-)
    It's so funny! You really sparked something in her :-)
    (sorry for my english, I hope you understand)
    Greetings from Holland!

    Paints a picture for that movie, "While You Were Sleeping!" I just want to THANK YOU for your organization system. You have changed my life; seriously. I am in the process of unpacking from a move and just your bins with no lids has made everything SO much easier. I also think about making something easier to put away than leave out. The systems I am setting up are actually staying maintained. It's a Butterfly Miracle! I would LOVE to see you do something specifically for those with ADHD and how that affects their organization style. 😘

    • @SnowySpiritRuby
      @SnowySpiritRuby 4 года назад +7

      I personally find that making things easy to find is key for dealing with my ADHD - I'm more likely to get frustrated if it takes a long time to find something than if it takes a long time to put it away. But that's just me - I'm 1/2 cricket 1/2 ladybug - and I can imagine that macro categories are easier for some, for the ease of putting away part. Honestly, I think it really depends on the individual person - I'm pretty sure my dad has ADHD, and he's a classic cricket, but other people I know with ADHD are ladybugs and butterflies. For me, I find that once I've got my organization system set up, it's just as easy to put things away in a detailed system as it is in a macro system - usually all I have to do is open a drawer (or my accordion file) and put the thing in the right slot/spot.

    • @andrealister3970
      @andrealister3970 3 года назад +6

      @@SnowySpiritRuby I agree. Rather than think of it as micro / macro, I think of it as "easy to find" vs "easy to put away." And the difference really is where you'd rather spend your time: at the front end or back end. Will you take a few seconds to put something in a specific place so you don't have to look for it later? Then you're an "Easy to find" type person. Do you just want to toss something back in and spend a few seconds looking in a general area when you need it again? You're an "easy to put away" type.

My sister, a butterfly, came to help me organise and she told me to stop “micro-organising.” I cannot see big pictures and I like everything hidden away. I am definitely a cricket. 😂 My sister really helped by making me get Billy bookshelves and baskets, which I never would have thought of doing because I could only micro-organise.

    I'm very visual in that out of sight is out of mind so I need to see everyday stuff but I cannot function in clutter. Clean surfaces make me calm and bookcases stress me out. It's a hard balance to keep. I have to limit the amout of stuff I own so that I can keep the balance. I also have lots of built in storage so that things are visual but behind doors.

    I’m just going to say this, I am a butterfly according to the bug organizing styles. For years I have had piles of mail all around the boarder of my bedroom (mostly in the bedroom). Now that we are in the tech age I have an email and it has ...get ready... literally as of to day over 10,000 pieces of email! 😱 And I am not a business or corporation... just an individual 😢! This 10,000 is because I literally one day sat down at my laptop and went through and deleted hundreds of junk emails! I live with my sister who is a the total opposite of what I am and I know I drive her to 😭. My kids say I am a hoarder and I say no I am a pack rat! Really...OMG! My bedroom is not a peaceful place at all! I have had moments where I just burst into tears because I really do not want it this way but I cannot seem to change it. I have been following clutterbug for sometime now and when I first saw you I fell in love with your personality and the way you so kindly talk about clutterbug styles. I ran out and bought lots of dollar tree storage bins and now ... guess what... I have clutter bins all around the boarder of my room, on my dresser, on my nightstand and I am feeling like now how did the bins now become clutter?? 😭 Please pray for me that I get help and figure out what to do now. Cass I watched you show on TV and loved it... I guess I should have been on there. Ok I will digress...P.S. I also am a major procrastinator... IMAGINE THAT! Ugh 😫

      I wish I was wealthy and had a big house and could pay for people to help. Maybe I’m reincarnated from being someone like that. Then again, it is also very familiar to clean and organize for someone else! Anyone but myself!!! (So maybe I used to be someone’s chambermaid.) Anyway. Wish I could curate the museum of my life instead of shredding and throwing it all away. Pretty sure I have also gratefully accepted a lot of things from other people which sort of felt like considerate gifts at the time, but, come to think of it, may have really been the result of their decluttering process. Still, I feel obligated to make use of them. Or recycle them. Or something. What’s up with all that???!!
