Your Mom saved me from depression & guilt because I thought something was seriously wrong with me because my clutter and hoarding stuff (that I never could find back after I bought it) was out of control & overwhelming. Now I understand that I am a Butterfly and need to see in Macro NOT in traditional systems! I am so grateful. Your Mom is worthy of great respect for all she has overcome. ❤️

Bee-tterfly here! Am new to Cass (only discovered last week) and while I've not yet got my system 100% nailed down (I truly am stuck between the two! Surely there are other mutant/hybrids out here, maybe she'll address it someday 🙂 ) but I am nonetheless HOPEFUL for the first time in a very very long time. Once you've failed over and over and finally resigned yourself to just being *broken* in this arena, it's so hard to get past the self-inflicted disgust and battery and loathing. Not only does her methodology and teachings make sense and help *so* immensely but also just her obv compassion, having lived it herself, helps SO, so much. She's not only given me tools, she's made me *want* to care for and help myself again. ❤💗💝

OMGoodness, Cass, Thank you! This is a life changing message. This came up randomly in my feed. As I sit at my piled-high kitchen table and consider the few places that there is some order in my house, you made it clear that I am a visual micro-organizer. So maybe I am not such a lazy, dismal failure. Every weekend my Saturday task is to clean up a room, and it has been something approached with dread and procrastination because I’ve put in so much work and not been successful or was unable to maintain. I am in my 50’s so that is a long history of failure. I even lead a double life of sorts because our almost-horde/cluttered home is a shameful secret that keeps us from ever having anyone to the house. Thank you for sharing your wonderful insight!

Thank you for doing this talk! I only just watched it and already feel as though my life makes SO much more sense. I am definitely a Bee and have been struggling with depression and anxiety over the conflict between my overachieving nature and my 'messy' ways. Just two days ago I stood in front of my wardrobe with two full clothes baskets of laundry to be hung there and after ten minutes of walking back and forth and putting items on hangers - but not away - I felt like an insane person for achieving exactly nothing. I empathise with the lawyer in your story so. much.

This is genius! Seriously. Light 💡 bulb moment for me after spending the last 6 months watching every organizing show. I’m a butterfly 🦋 I spent years organizing cleaning everyone’s house but couldn’t manage my own & I thought it was because I was too attached to my stuff … but I just had to figure out my style & make it work for me. I’m very visual & I have ADD. Constantly working on 💯 things & forgetting about important things because I never knew where I placed it. I just spent an hour crying last night feeling like a complete failure & terrible mom for having a messy house. I also sell online so I have a lot of inventory & end up keeping way more than I need because “oh I can always sell it later.” Best 30 mins spent was watching your TedTalk & your personal channel. Can’t thank you enough! You are AMAZEBALL$ The less time I will spend looking for things & feeling miserable about my dysfunctional organization skills the more time I’ll have to build my online store & accomplish my goals! ty ty ty!

Inspiring talk, but being a severe unmedicated ADHD sufferer I was distracted and grasping for key words anxiously promising a solution for a no fail inevitable, overdue, overwhelming task of emptying, cleaning, & closing a 5x7 storage unit ..at 8:00 am this morning... value ranging from :,sentimental, 45 years of collecting , researching, planning, abandoning, sorting, selling, dreaming, creating, preserving, repurposing, yet it is just aging and being unappreciated , unframed, under lock & key, unpaid at times, a constant struggle emotionally & financially I’m consumed & obsessed with achieving the goal of decluttering & organizing with clarity & a clear conscience ,remnants of my life. So I can get a life. A simplified , honest, inspiring collection of memories, all I recall was something about different styles of organizing .. doesn’t mean they are wrong ways. Wow I can’t believe I’m posting this.

I knew she mentioned wanting to do a Ted Talk but I didn't know she had till this video was suggested! She did such a good job. On her RUclips she does a great job explaining how to organize a home with multiple bugs!

I just discovered her youtube channel! This resonates with me on more than just an organizing level. For me, my biggest challenge was trying to fit my sensitive anxious self into a future that would require me to be chill and not bothered by much. I wanted so badly to be equanimous (yes, that's the adjective of "equanimity") in the midst of chaos and not have it bother me. I tried so hard to be someone that I'm not that my mental health suffered. My self-esteem wasn't in the toilet, it was already flushed and in the pipes headed to the wastewater treatment plant. But it's getting better, because I realize - I'm just a different kind of psychological bug. I'm the butterfly of psychology, and I've been trying to force myself to be the cricket of psychology.
Needless to say I really appreciate your channel. I'm also a butterfly of clutter

My Mother told me that she thought I was disorganized. Her statement bothered me a lot, it made me cry actually. After she got sick and I had to move all her things, I learned the truth - she was the one that was disorganized, but it was all out of sight - her closets and drawers were total jumble of mismatched items. My closets, cupboards and drawers were always neat!
