The decisive difference is the concept. Alestorm has the concept of being a drunken pirate band, which I think fits perfect to their band-members. So they can make this trashy-lyrics-songs without losing authenticity. Equilibrium was in the beginning a mix of folk-, viking- and epic-sounds, which was great, too (I see sagas as their best album so far, but waldschrein was also great). Point is: A song like this is too much. Wirtshaus Gaudi and Met are also songs with pretty dumb lyrics, but they fit in the concept. This song is just not really fitting. Nevertheless, I think it is catchy and if the rest of Armageddon is going to be more serious, then everything is okay.

A few years back I was really into the folky and “Viking” stuff -including some songs by this band - which was sort of about creating mystic and ancient atmosphere.
Each his own but this right here is all about creating a cringe, pseudo-funny “epic” atmosphere.

This is so awkward. Listened to this song so many times at metal parties without hearing the lyrics and absolutely fell in love with everything about it (and yes especially the flute parts) ... Now I finally found the song and it's an absolutely ridiculous parody to which I flipped my hair like there's no tomorrow 😅😂
I'm now realizing, that the message of this song has the potential to be an incredibly powerful panacea for a man who has good reason to doubt himself. We receive so many harmful words from this sick world. Taking lyrics like these deep into yourself is like weaving psychological armor into your soul.

Anfangs dachte ich " Was soll das denn bitte sein? Hat Robse net gesagt es wird dunkler und Epischer das Album?" Aber je öfter ich es höre desto mehr mag ich es. Und ich denke stark, dass es eine gewisse Parodie ist. Denn man sieht wie Robse sich das lachen verkneifen muss und die Lyrics klingen halt wie son typischer "Hey ich bin Metaller und stehe auf Epische Sachen und übertriebenen Shit, ich schreib ma nen Lied" Denn wie man in Erdentempel auch sah, dass EQUILIBRIUM auch richtige Texte schreiben kann. Ich freue mich jedenfalls schon auf das Album :D
Mal schauen, wie lange man da von "Parodie" redet. Immerhin gibt es bei Rammstein auch immer noch Leute, die nach den Porno-Alben von "Provokation" und nicht einfach nur von "Müll" reden. Man darf nicht vergessen, dass seit Erdentempel 2 Songwriter aus der Band raus sind, also ob sie noch "richtige Texte" können, bleibt erstmal abzuwarten. Der Song hier war erstmal nicht all zu vielversprechend für das Album, denn wenn der Rest so ist, wird es das erste Equi-Album, was nicht in meinem Schrank landet.
Naja Prey war doch in Ordnung oder nicht? Das war ja der erste song der rauskam.
"Ganz in Ordnung" beschreibt es ganz gut. Halt okay, aber nicht wirklich gut. Steht den alten Sachen weit nach bisher. Einfach was die Musikalität und Dynamik angeht. Und die englischen Texte lesen sich ein bisschen wie von nem Grundschüler geschrieben :|

Na scheinbar nicht, oder ihm gehen die Ideen aus ._. Also zumindest bei den Texten hat man nen deutlichen Unterschied gemerkt nachdem Robse dazu gekommen ist. Kanns natürlich nicht beweisen, aber ich finde man kann recht gut auf die Lieder zeigen, bei denne Robse den Text gemacht hat.
Also wenn man die Kommentare so liest, denkt man sich, dass alle die Equilibrium hören die perfekten Musiker/Textkünstler/Sänger sind. Leute wenn es keinen mehr gibt der eben professionellere Texte schreiben kann oder musikalisch eben kein Oberbrüller mehr erreicht wird, dann liegt das daran, dass die Band an sich schon lange nichtmehr so da ist wie sie es einmal war. Wer von der ursprünglichen Besatzung ist noch alles da?Ich für meinen Teil, finde die Lieder für das wie sie weiter machen garnicht so übel. Klar ist es nichtmehr so tiefgründig wie früher, aber immerhin machen sie überhaupt noch Lieder! Zählt das denn garnicht? Und wenn es euch allen doch so wenig gefällt dann kauft euch das Album doch nicht oder versucht mit konstruktiver Kritik der Band zu helfen!! Wenn es jemanden gibt der bessere Texte schreiben kann für den Liedtitel dann bitte schreibt sie doch mal und meckert doch nicht nur rum.

Love it. Better lyrics than Prey, though I overall enjoyed the melody of prey more. In this one I was hoping that after "born to be epic" something heavy kicks in, instead it got calmer. Not bad but kinda unexpected for me. 2:00-2:10 Robse killed it. I'd like to hear more of that screaming voice!

No no no, the metaldubfolkstep part after "born to be epic!" with skulls and daggers dancing is problably one of the most epic things ever. Almost epic as the globe-spinner-for-eyes skull at the beginning of the video.

Im sorry mate, there are ways to evolve, incorporate change into the sound of a band, I have to agree with Darthsivius, this is not even the shadows of what Turis Fratyr and Sagas...even to a some extent Rekreatur were. Is like they lost something along the way, look at the new Epica single...thats fucking kick ass, look at Nothgard´s new single which is Equilibrium´s lead guitarist band, is better than Born to be Epic and Prey by a mile.

Thanks for helping me save 3 minutes of my time. Couldn't take the rest of the song. So hoping for the Völkl siblings to open up a new band and write Equilibrium under a different name... It's just like this isn't even Equilibrium anymore, ever since Robse entered the band. No songs like Widars Hallen, Blut Im Auge or Des Sängers Fluch :(
