I find it hilarious that they seem to think that product grown by these large corporations is considered "high quality".
Corporations don't know how to grow marijuana, they just throw a bunch of money at it and hope for the best.
It's the Legacy Growers that were growing medical marijuana before legalization that produce high-quality product. Obviously I'm generalizing but
Experience trumps money 9 times out of ten.

I agree, many of the companies are pulling a good number of college kids with a few 'degrees' in botany etc to grow their 'high grade' stashes lol. However, they're been searching looking for skilled/experienced growers throughout Canada over the past 20 years, long before legalization came about. They certainly weren't looking for medical growers for the experience.
I still remember the want ads in the classified papers, and some I knew who had been caught in recent years growing illegally or without a license. They were offered jobs regardless of their past. Some of them were even approached while still serving time.

I work for almost 10 years in the cannabis industry pre-legalisation.
With legalisation corporations have taken over, Quality is still poor, product is very dated and it’s just not what it should be.
Myself like millions of other, Canadians, prefer the black market, trusted providers that I’ve known for many years. Why would I buy cannabis from a retail outlet when I can buy an ounce of premium for about $120. Concentrate half the price, quality is there for me to pharmaceutical levels.
We need to amend the Cannabis act, Failure to do so well caused the system to collapse upon itself in its futile attempt to control a market that is truly uncontrollable.
No sessions for me to bring in the people that were pioneers in the industry, and fighting for legalisation for many years if not decades .
Corporate bullies instead took over, I loved the store that I managed and invested financially into. We paid a very good wage, our customers and patience with Quality at affordable prices.
I live in Vancouver and it’s so sad to see storefronts they’re closed that were doing so very well and trying to get into the legal system .

Gov't is trying to take something that was widely considered 'free trade' in Canadian society and force it to turn large profits via taxes, fees etc etc. much like the tobacco, or the heavily gov't controlled liquor & beer markets. Hyper focused on cornering the markets by only allowing sales for years at places like The Beer Store or LCBO's. I still think the only reason they allowed the Cannabis market to be somewhat privately owned was the uncertainty or foreseeable startup instability. Once most of the market folds but stabilizes they will sweep in and do the same.

The mail order black market is alive and very well in Canada right now with prices plummeting to compete with the availability of legally sourced cannabis. This pressure to succeed is also lessening the quality of work being done in the industry. I worry that workers in positions of leadership are making decisions out of fear of closure rather than 10 year + longevity. As a result, working in the industry becomes extremely chaotic.
I believe a lot of this behaviour is due to the infancy of the industry as well as the approach folks in power decide to take with their workforce.

I'll say this once. The legal market sells 30% + thc content flower for approximately $80. + for 7 grams ish. The "illicit" market sells the same thing for $50. On the high end. All one has to do is look at the price structure at anyone of these dispensaries and one can see there's no comparison.
A few tax dollars aren't going to help, their overhead is just too high. To put it bluntly they would have to have their highest price on 7 grams of 30% + thc flower @ $30. / shatter $10. Per gram. Vape cartridge @ $10. Per gram. (At the rez shatter is $15/ gram, vape cartridge also $15 today). So if one invests in the green market your flushing your $ down the drain. Divest and run, the illicit market has gotten costs so low there's no way to compete. Soon the industry will call for crack downs on anything that seems illicit (witch hunt ). This will be applied to the licensed medical growers of Ontario (10 plants each their allowed) remember them? It looks like a dark path coming knowing our government. Edibles require more intense scrutiny because it's food , but there's bootleg candy and everything one can imagine...
Also cheap and powerful. So call me when the price gets to where I described, until then......Hey Bruh!. Gotta bag?.....

overproduction of sub par inventory. too many taxes and restrictive regulations for business and consumers. and as far as the black market - many of the legal micro producers who are failing and unable to sell their product are dumping their product on the black market, also ruining it. so good job on government getting involved in weed so now almost noone is making a living.

---- THC breaks down fairly quickly, even if the "product" is frozen. So supply has to match demand, or your assets depreciate. This means that when enough people have invested in the publicly traded stock, everyone will lose money. Simple really.

This is what happens when you are a nation of debtors, living off of debt. You'll do anything for tax revenue. Gee... you'll even sell weed. LOL!!

Small potato mindset. Taking a larger portion of the global market should be the goal, rather than profit off of our own.

At this current point in time the legal and illegal market are neck and neck price wise. Incredible cannabis is cheaper than ever. Possibly the cheapest time in history to be a stoner. That's canada for you, always doing the opposite of what it intends to do XD

Come on man!! Enjoy those drugs. I know... they should get the grocery stores to sell it!! Loblaws and Metro would sell their grandmother's to be able to offer it to their loyal customers. They can place it at kid's height in the breakfast cereal isle and put cute cartoon animals along the shelves leading to it's location! Everyone loves weed. Of course, the packaging would remain "non-descript" and "bland", just like the experts in Government ordered!
