Afleet Alex should have won the Triple Crown in 2005. He was third in the Derby a length behind Giacomo and Closing Account, both of whom he beat easily in th e next two races, the Preakness and the Belmont. Alex was coming up on Giacomo, and would have run past him if the race had been a little longer. It is simple racing "bad" luck that Alex didn't get the TC. He was easily the best horse in 2005, especially when you look at his pre TC races. An amazing horse!!!
A couple things here: 1) how ELITE was Afleet Alex? MY GOD 2) Andromeda's Hero in any normal yr would've won here and w/o him in the race Alex wins by 15 lengths? jesus christ
20 horse field, getting caught on the rail behind horses mid race, and probably making his move so much earlier in the Derby that was at a record pace, all that and he only lost the Triple Crown by a length. If just one of those doesn't occur he wins it.
@@raygordonteacheschess5501 Sham was a truly great horse who had the misfortune of being born the same year of the greatest who ever ran. Any other year and his name would easily be recalled as one of the greats.
One of my favorite horses ever. Incredible!!
My favorite of all time, this horse was very fast and had a huge heart!
I love him too ..
That little horse was all heart ❤
Pure class and he knows he’s the man!

You’re so right. Damn that 20 horse field. Point Given is another that should have been a TC winner.
Closing argument
Closing Argument was ahead of Afleet Alex every step of the way down the stretch
A true champion!
"Giacomo has faded"...5:54....My favorite words......lol😂
I just love that the crowd got even louder when they said Afleet Alex's name!
He was a such an amazing little race horse!
Absolutely destroyed the field.
Jeremy Rose making a comeback.
Greatest Preakness I watch

My favorite horse. Just a veer in the Derby kept him from the Triple Crown.

Afleet Alex may be the most muscular, fittest horse I have ever seen.
With a long race like this, anything can happen. Afleet Alex may be the best horse to have not won the Triple Crown.
That would be Alydar or Sham.
