Duncan Robinson - Sharpshooter/Off Ball Movement

- Duncan Robinson. DIII to the NBA. The first player to play in both an NCAA Division I championship game and a Division III championship game. Made his way by playing on the Sioux Falls Skyforce. Played in The Basketball Tournament in 2018 as a part of Big X. Duncan declined an invitation to participate as part of the G League-manned squad that Team USA used from September 6 through September 17 to qualify for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup so that he could participate in informal training with the Heat.
Pat Riley said “I’m really proud in the fact that Duncan Robinson has been invited to play in the international series, but he decided to stay here because he wanted to make our team, he wants to force us into giving him a real contract."
Long story short, Duncan Robinson has a heart that can’t be contained. There’s no way he’s going to let obstacles get in the way and his journey has proven that.
Zach Lowe on his podcast (link below) with the great David Thorpe said that Duncan Robinson told him of the development he had made with Miami in getting his shot off “I don’t even notice defenders anymore. I know exactly how much space I need to get my jump shot off and if I have that much space, it doesn’t matter what the defense is or who they are.”
Miami has also done an outstanding job using Duncan Robinson’s gravity to their advantage. They’ve weaponized him as a screener. Deploying Duncan as a screener gets defenders having to make decisions - and that split second of having to make a decision is ALL the time he needs to gain an advantage, sprint to an open spot or to a handoff, and before anyone knows it, it’s already in the basket.
The end of the video is meant to highlight a little bit of what he can do on the move without the 3 ball. It isn't how the Heat want to use him at all, but blending in a little bit here and there means he doesn't stagnate when they smother him from getting his shot off.
Duncan Robinson rips the net with his A+ shooting. Through 69 games (including the bubble), he has made 257 3 pointers out of 574 attempts (44.8% from deep).
For reference, Klay Thompson during the 2018-19 season made 241 out of 599 attempts (40.2% from deep) in 78 games. It's not just a random comparison - I think Duncan's game reminds me of a cross between Kyle Korver (and his ability to create chaos as a screener) and Klay (younger Klay, not the Klay that's been to all the Finals)

I plan on doing a full Duncan Robinson off the ball video highlighting all the great stuff he does eventually, but since he’s been lighting up the bubble, I figured it was time to release this one that I have had on the back burner for a little.

His off-ball movement is so nice, he's really similar to klay
It’s a comp I made in my description!
IMHO I think his move is more similar to jj.reddick
@@willikurniawan158 naa he is long like klay. His off the dribble 3's are similar to klay aswell
not klay more on korver
no its regie miller
I love his split second decisions off of those handoffs. You can tell he loves taking the ball right but he reacts really well to people going under the handoff man by sticking behind him.
Klay is a good comparison on offense. He uses his teammates bodies like a chess player uses pieces
Couldn’t have said it better myself
This man’s footwork & balance is impeccable 👌🏽
rarely ever dribbles the ball, just straight up fires. i remember him saying Spoelstra would yell at him if he ever put the ball on the floor lmao
He's a true mistro at his craft.
😂😂 Now the Heat have have him dribbling
The shot looks so effortless, a legit shooter
"I don't even notice defenders anymore"
:l bruh
The way Spo designs his offense to allow Robinson to evolve into a top 3 shooter in the world shows his coaching skills
Might be the best shooter this season
5dastral did you just name Eric Gordon over Duncan Robinson 🤣🤣🤣🤣
5dastral youre gonna disrespect devin booker like this?
5dastral had one of the best three point shooting seasons of all time lol. Steph curry is the only player in nba history to make more three pointers than him on a higher percentage. Also, if the season didn’t end he would have most likely been the only player besides harden and curry to make 300 threes in a season
His form look nice too. Only ray allen and klay has prettier form
@5dastral PG????? LOL
His shot preparation is so precise (as is Miami's movement/spacing). Great vid as always
I'll never not like this video. I come back to watch this video and just sit in awe every few weeks.
tbh man if even have a son, this is what i’m show him first to model his game after offensively. being a great shooter and off the ball player is so valuable and duncan is one of favorites to watch.
Great vid... loved this one
The editing makes for some hilarious perfectly cut announcer calls.
his realese remind me of Peja Stojakovic, beautiful
lwkey this guys vids are amazing hes underrated asf
Beautiful form
The best shooter nobody talks about . Great video
Are you dumb 🤨🤨
Nickkyy bruh he said the best shooter NOBODY talks anout
Nickkyy wtf how is he dumb
Diego Torres wdym how is he dumb he just called him the best shooter wtf🤨🤨
Nickkyy he said he is the best shooter no one talks about. He wasn’t saying he is the best shooter in the league.
Glad to have his jersey :)
Yes sir dropping almost everyday now thank you
Such a champ
Let’s go ! Finals 2023!! 3 wins from a ring Duncan!!
Lovely. Love how he creates for himself space to shoot off the screen.
So you mean Steph curry or klay? I mean Steph is the king of off ball lol
Do y'all know he's 4th in 3pt made and also 4th in 3pt% this season? That's nuts.
Underrated
Awesome upload. Though I know I’m not the only one who always thinks of Timmy and David when I see the name.
Bam to duncan
the fact that even though he is considered a "defensive liability" it isn't because he just lets his man past him like he still tries to stay with him giving him a tough shot
i’m putting all my guys on duncan’s off ball movement, top 10 in the nba on that
that pick n pop with bam is fuckin unstoppable
When he is strating shoot, one knows it is 3 points for sure !!!!
They already know it’s going in all his teammates getting back on d
That’s my boi
This man has a video game flamethrower
Tim duncan & david robinson does fusion dance = duncan robinson
Trae Young + Duncan Robinson = Next Gen Splash Backcourt
Duncan is more of a forward tho... not sure he could be the defensive guard that Klay is for Steph but it would still be some crazy shooting on the same team
Tyler Herro + Duncan Robinson = Young Splash Bros
Brace Yourself yeah not yet anyway herro can’t even shoot over 40% from 3 for a seaso. Yet so he’s inconsistent but you can definitely see the potential no doubt
one of the best of the best shooters in the NBA.
He is the best shooter this year
Yimba Iyoko what about lillard with his 50-60+ logo shots and career threes in the season
WILLIAM GREY yeah, both of them shoots inefficiently from that range, Dame shoots about 30% + meanwhile Trae shoots around that or even lower.
WILLIAM GREY Sad to say, there’s one dude named Curry who shoots 45+ from 28ft +
WILLIAM GREY Did I say, Curry shoots more of them and shoots efficiently? No, I clearly stated that Curry only shoots good shots from that range and sometimes good transition pull up 2 for 1 threes with 50%+
Anyone else see how his shooting form looks similar to Reggie Miller's??
True..
mee
Don’t disrespect Duncan like that 😂
i think it's more on how they step in to the shot
Jonathan Giesbrecht that’s a compliment in my book
KAAAA BOOOMM!
Robinson out here trying to be klay thompson & JJ Redick with that catch & shoot off ball movement dude is lethal tho👍👍
korver
Is this why Roman Atwood stopped vlogging? He entered the NBA
Hahaha😂
That's why bam had so many assists this season.
This guy's going to be the 2021 3pt champion
Matt thomas is going to be 2021 champ, robinson had his chance in 2020
@@huegrection9698 who?
@@cosmicwarrior1857 he shot 99% on uncontested catch and shoot 3s, you'll know him name once nick nurse gives him more minutes. He has the highest 3 pt percentage in the league rn among shooting guards but i dont bring up that stat cause he has taken as many shots compared to some of the other guys. Just look him up and you'll know that I'm not bullshitting about that 99% stat
Duncan Robinson..
like he was named after the 2 legendary Spurs players lmao..
but for real this guy is money when he shoots..
harry killed you lmao, get back to your grave
he 's like ''''hummmmmm a ball? shoot'''
Butter
Reminds me of Reggie Miller.. smooth
Dunc has the sexiest footwork in the league
every coach want people to play like him 😂
3 point 2k21 rating
Duncan Robinson - 87
Jared Dudley - 88
the next klay thompson with handles
The next Great Ray Allen
Duncun the real life jimmy from hoosiers pure shooter
Miami heat blue uniform too cleann
Who do i have to blow to set this to smooth jazz or chill study beats
Imagine if they go finals against lakers and win? Oh boy
@Braylon Flowers yep this comment was made before finals
@mir yez better luck next time for ma boiz Miami!!
Klay Robinson
Tim David
8:08 the tight rope corner trey tho..I watched dat shit like 6 times..like he ain't do that..hell no..
Should change the title to lethal sniper
Gotta be from SA-Town with a name like that.
New Hampshire
I notice his jumpshot is like Klay and young Kyle Korver
in my eyes of a wizards fan he reminds me of garrison mathews
what the hell is coach spo giving to his shooters to make them this lethal????
Duncan Robinson I voted the most improve player this season
When he gets older in his career and has to play more small forward instead of shooting guard he will learn how to dribble and that mid range will be unstoppable. He has too good of touch with his release a midrange post game would be unstoppable.
He doesn’t have any athleticism
Imagine if the heat gets Davis Bertans or Seth Curry, this team will raining
Bertans would be a wet dream, Heat need a 4 and if that was Bertans it would be game over for the league.
Son, you gotta fight thru those screens. There’s absolutely no way he should ever be open. If you gotta try your best to run over whoever is setting the pick and pick up a foul then you do what you gotta do.
Almost like Kyle Korver style
He looks like GGG🥊
Those handoffs+screen = hard to cover......
shooters should be like this, not just waiting in the corner hoping the ball goes their way.
2:21, 4:00 - guide hand key
Good shooting no doubt. Hoping to see some shooting where you think it is not shooting. How about assist?
He's the second best shooter behind Curry rn...not gonna argue with anyone
Lol
He is Klay 2.0
Helol no do t compare him to klay that’s disrespectful! Klay is a elite defender and is a better shooter than Duncan
Ka-boom
A 2nd coming of Klay
Reminds me of Kyle Korver
Klay 2.0
What's Wrong with you in NBA Finals
Catch and shoot HOF!
Peja Stojakovic clone
Tim David
I bet his dad is a Spurs fan.. DUNCAN AND ROBINSON. 😂😂😂😂😂
Duncan = Half Curry, Half Korver.
Stop with the klay comparisons he’s nothing like klay. He’s a Reggie move without the ball slash Kyle Korver quick release nice form shooter flat out. What you see is what you get accurate quick shooting with controlled form. Kyle had a long career doing just this give this kid a nice comfy extension if Miami won’t someone will.
Hes like mike miller way back 2peat
the new era of reggie miller hehe
Reminds me of Ray Allen
SpooN MaN yes! Ray Allen has such a finesse and I see it in Robinson
Yes.. Finesse is the right word to describe it.
Let's not forget about you know who....😉
Bài bật tường bắn 3 ghê vc
reggie miller 2.0 version robinson
Off ball movement is my biggest turn on
can you timestamp an offball movement? I’m learning basketball.
@@elletangere8964 0:46 watch how Robinson sprints across the entire 3 point line to generate an open 3 pointer as the play dies when kendrick nun picks up the ball.
Next klay Thompson
4:33 look at the score...is that real?!
It was 46-71 at halftime I believe
Evin Gualberto damn...the rockets went on a HUGE run then!!!
Reminds me of Reggie Miller so much
wait did duncan travel at 3:27 or am i just delusional?
Bruh, a lot of these hand offs are questionable. Granted they don't call travel in the NBA anymore, but he's definitely getting the ball and taking 1-2 steps before he gathers or hops into his shot. Looks kinda bad to just see it not get called over and over

Klay thompson
kinda like klay
