Nothing is as good for my mini painting confidence as seeing an expert making the same mistakes I do. To see the fix is super educational, thank you so much for being so open about the entire process.
It's meaningful as a high quality painter and beloved (beloved?) content creator to show that you too can fat-trigger the airbrush and spray the ever loving crap out of a project.
Ooooo, somebody has a new bun in the coven! Scott, this was a really good video. One of your best. No gimmicks, no drama or yuk-yuks (ok, fewer yuk-yuks), just painting. I especially appreciate you taking us though your mistakes and corrections. Well done, sir.
Your humor is absolutely fantastic! It's not often I find myself painting and laughing out loud at a RUclips video-so much so that I had to stop mid-brushstroke just to type this out and leave a comment. Love your work, mate; the army looks incredible. Keep it up!
I switched from a yellow to a white sponge for my wet palette and it really helps me to better judge the color of the paint; especially useful for mixing.
I’ve just started RUclips and for my second video created one just like this, with the same concept of revisiting an old model. So just wanna say thank you for creating this video Scott as it’s given me a perfect comparison point on how to improve my videos and to see how a pro does it, cheers! 🙏 and also great vid!
Hey Scott, love the new Content. Had to laugh 5 times out load, because of the weird little jokes and the editing. Thanks for highlighting the amount of thought going into your airbrush placement etc. I learned so much and definitely gonna try that out myself.
Really enjoyed the vibe and detail in this video, makes me want to paint up one of those Drukhari barges. I also dig your choice on the cables, these guys are the product of proud body horror distribution agents, of course they'll have some fancy colours
If you want a nice oil paint stains that just shift the tone try first putting some enamel thinner/mineral spirits on the model, then use the oil paint thinned to the point you would thin acrylic paint, Mike Rinaldi has great videos about that
Just wanted to let you know that I've really enjoyed your content this year. You're consistantly putting out high quality videos that give me something to think about and apply to my own hobby time, whether it be a practical tip or something in theory. Much love to you Scott and others that you have putting in wotk behind the scenes. 🙏
personally, sub-assembly painting is the best way to thoroughly get to know a model, topographically/geometrically as well as painting-wise. does it make sense for every model? nah. is there a fleeting degree of satisfaction in knowing that you painted portions of it nobody will ever see? ye, kinda. is it time well spent? well, if you like painting, then yeah. if you're just trying to get models on the tabletop, then probably not so much. it can still be a worthwhile experiment and get you out of your painting routine, which is most often a good thing.
I see your hard work, and dedication and I commend you! I wish you the best and much success. I often find myself studying your approach. I have found what makes me a better artist in all medias is pushing myself past my comfort zone, and trying out different approaches I see you take, definitely makes me a better painter/artist .thank you good, sir.
I feel like you recent videos have been a lot more purposeful / deliberate, which is cool. It's great to hear your ongoing thought process / breakdown. :D
You keep putting out bangers and I love it =D I really liked how you acknowkedge that mistakes were made and managed to learn from it, really inspiring =)
Was gonna skip this video because “repainting” doesn’t get me going. Then I watched eons video and saw yours was part of the dark Eldar competition! That’s way more exciting then just repainting
great video. I like that you mentioned how long it took you to pain the minni helps to put the paint job into prospective on the effort required to achieve the results.
Another great video, do like the new version. Surprise right. Saw your brush box and minis down at The Source. (They look even better in person, thanks for letting them be displayed!) How did your Shatterpoint match go? Told ya boi to crush you mercilessly lol
The best thinned down oil skin recipe I’ve ever seen is from NuHue’s angron video. Its unbelievably good and although its not the exact tone you would be looking for the technique can definitely be changed by color to suit whatever skin tone you want
Great collab, two great channels! Feedback for the live segment - I love this, it would be awesome to have this in more videos when you are doing a specific technique and then we can see a live method, and ways you fix problems to help us do the same too! Top video!
I see what you mean during the final look at the complete model about it not coming together, but I am with you. Having seen you go through the process, I feel like I also enjoy the final model more than I would just presented with it. (I'd still love it)
I think your skills have come quite aways in 10 years because that is definitely a good job on that model and even if you don't I honestly feel that the colors you chose work together quite well because some abominations are usually tones of subdued colors instead of being bright and flashy. Good job my friend keep up the good work
Love to see the growth! I know many people say not to go back to old models but I'm starting to do this on my first AOS army and making changes that are light lift vs huge visual impact and I'm so glad I'm taking he plunge no ragerts
Beautifully done, I feel the skin tone goes really well with the rest of the scheme. I guess we are all our own worst critics. Also, how long did you leave the airbrushed Molotow chrome to cure/dry before painting on it? Once again, fantastic work
@Miniac thank you for replying. Really good to know as I have some molotow chrome but have been hesitant to use it on miniatures because of the curing time. Thanks again, and another great video
Im not a fan of sub assembly. My wife has every piece of the model on a separate paperclip, like dozens of them 😂 I enjoy these sorts of videos from you Scott, keep em coming!
I find it really helpful to paint the same model from time-to-time. You've painted it before, so you know exactly what you're doing and you have an opportunity to try something different and can compare it directly to what you've already done.
Great video Scott, nice to see you working on something up close and talking through it all, even the slip-ups. Out of interest, what’s this white wash product you mention? Sounds handy!
Decent compromise I've learned for those who don't use oils, if you paint the crevices you want to pin wash with a thin coat of water before dabbing in some dark tone or agrax etc, it'll get a similar capillary action as oils
I really love how warm and contrasting your paint scheme is to Jay's. Also love how methodical and concrete your entire process has been, as compared to Jay's more sporadic, edgy, and experimental approach. I cant wait to see your next additions to the army as for now it looks like youre the only one producing any consistant content. Jay has been a bit radio silent on additions to his army the last few months, aside from a basing video I think
@@Miniac oh thats a possibilty as well. I figured he would have made a big deal about it being done though knowing him lol. I think youre doing great though! Slow and steady can when races as the saying goes haha
One thing I learned as a new airbrusher... your colors should be further apart than you might think at first. When I went at it initially, the contrast was too small and it didnt even look like an airbrush effect, just a basecoat
Have you thought that the hoses could be hydrolicly powered? So rather than just being flailing weapons they could also be used for piercing when said hoses are under full pressure. The downside is that because they are hoses they could also get punctured and become inoperable. Your _Space Bane_ is pretty cool too.
Scott, can you give us a quick "review" of how it feels to paint so many models to such a high standard? Like, are you already playing with them? That's always my problem: I want to bang out those 2000 points and play with my painted models ASAP. So for me it's always a compromise between speed and quality. I'd get disheartened painting a Cronos for so many hours just to realise that that's just 80 points and I'd have to do it all over again multiple times. So cudos to you for sticking with it! Maybe you can cut some corners with more airbrushing + oil washes in order to not go insane and/or take 100 years to complete this army?
I absolutely Love it, way better than the old style and yet they can happily coexist, if you rebase the old guy it would blend right in I will probably never paint a Drukhari army but if I did it would be similar to your scheme the skin vs armor is the only real issue I see and its just a simple matter of needing separation, get some blood for the blood god and paint it kinda like a pin wash into the areas where the flesh changes to metal or armor, you were pretty much trying to do this already, just need to finish it off, don’t use your clear red and black, its not the same, it does not have that oily pull that bfbg has that makes the ick look natural the issues with your sub assembly were completely avoidable as the parts can be test fit at any time during the painting process, I suspect you just have built some weird neural path in your head that says you are not allowed to remove a model from its temp paint holder until its finished but that denies you half the power of sub assembly at the end of the day it doesn’t matter the unit looks wicked cant wait to see the next one
I liked the graphic demonstrating your airbrush technique, but it was hard to see. It would probably be more visible with a solid color background behind it
Excellent video, lovely result. Have you used Villainy Ink, Scott? The way you painted this model would have worked well with them; it is very Grimdark Compendium.
Man, this channel is so back to form! Well done Scott!!!
Epic paint job as always.
Would love to see an oils only video!
Oooops, all Oils! Would be a pretty interesting video
Definitely - all oils please!
Nothing is as good for my mini painting confidence as seeing an expert making the same mistakes I do. To see the fix is super educational, thank you so much for being so open about the entire process.
End of the year is uppon us! We need it, Scotty... You know we need it....bring us the end of the year (not) trashy video
it is UNSTOPPABLE
But Scotty doesn't know ;)
It's meaningful as a high quality painter and beloved (beloved?) content creator to show that you too can fat-trigger the airbrush and spray the ever loving crap out of a project.
WE BACK BABY

love the grey black fade with the yellow over brush on the 'proboscus'!
I'll never get tired of watching your paint process, thank you for teaching me so much!
I love this type of content. Love your army projects. All of them. Great video!
Your humor is absolutely fantastic! It's not often I find myself painting and laughing out loud at a RUclips video-so much so that I had to stop mid-brushstroke just to type this out and leave a comment. Love your work, mate; the army looks incredible. Keep it up!
You know what, the skin might clash with the cream color armor, but this is dark eldar, theyre allowed to be a little unsettling
20:09 this was quite a surprise since I had looked away before the warning was posted on screen 😂
10:57 that sounds like something worth giving a go for your next venture into oils!
Another slam dunk! I like the cutting matt store tie in and the Jay challenge announcement I think they were well placed.
I switched from a yellow to a white sponge for my wet palette and it really helps me to better judge the color of the paint; especially useful for mixing.
I appreciated the calm and soothing narration.
Great job on this vid Scott. Great production value and informative. I love the new format. Well done!

That Chronos' graffiti skills are super sick Scott!! I could totally see a full army all having similar tags/graffiti in general.
Really enjoyed the vibe and detail in this video, makes me want to paint up one of those Drukhari barges. I also dig your choice on the cables, these guys are the product of proud body horror distribution agents, of course they'll have some fancy colours
I love watching this army come together... its a really cool scheme :)
Those pops of teal are doing WORK! Excellent paint job
Love this, it's so entertaining watching you painting something you want to and enjoying the process towards a bigger whole. 10/10
Great job! You bring some incredibly learnable but cool, techniques to the hobby!
Ah a classic video where Scott paints a mini, love that stuff!
I friggin love this format! I'd love to see more where you revisit old piece with new skills or ideas.
Loving the Eldar videos. I think the skin and armour contrast well, as the dissonance highlights the gruesomeness of the skin!
Love this series between you and Jay.
Would love an ongoing points leaderboard with bi-weekly/monthly updates!!!
If you want a nice oil paint stains that just shift the tone try first putting some enamel thinner/mineral spirits on the model, then use the oil paint thinned to the point you would thin acrylic paint, Mike Rinaldi has great videos about that
It's going to be one hell of a drukhari army. Can't wait to see it complete!

This video is great! Absolutely what I come to this channel for and some of your best work of the last year.
really like to see this type of video, good to see how people have changed the style over the years

Man we need some more blooper reels like the one with the grafiti! Love those tiny goof ups! The mini looks amazing well done!
I feel like you recent videos have been a lot more purposeful / deliberate, which is cool. It's great to hear your ongoing thought process / breakdown. :D
Hellllll yeah
You keep putting out bangers and I love it =D
I really liked how you acknowkedge that mistakes were made and managed to learn from it, really inspiring =)
I know you said at the end that the color scheme didn't come together as you'd have liked, but I went "whoa cooool!" during the reveal. Looks awesome!
These are some of my absolute favorite videos of yours! Stoked to see your Drukhari at the end 🤘🤘
Was gonna skip this video because “repainting” doesn’t get me going. Then I watched eons video and saw yours was part of the dark Eldar competition! That’s way more exciting then just repainting
Wow that sugil on the back is absolutely glowing! I am never brave enough to push the highlight of glowy bits to white, but this looks awesome.
great video. I like that you mentioned how long it took you to pain the minni helps to put the paint job into prospective on the effort required to achieve the results.
This turned out so sick! Great work, Scott.
Really love the format of these new videos
That is such a crispy and clean result ❤🔥Your 10+ years ago is where I hope to be in 10 years time 😂

Unreal video of a great paint job on a super cool model. Good job battling perfectionism too it's hard!
I was waiting to see the video after seeing Instagram post this morning and It was worth to wait!
this was chill af ty scott
I actually really like the combination of the pastel cream/yellow and the blue-beige fleshtone.
I think your skills have come quite aways in 10 years because that is definitely a good job on that model and even if you don't I honestly feel that the colors you chose work together quite well because some abominations are usually tones of subdued colors instead of being bright and flashy.

That is a great question because it does matter regarding the molotow. I just left it over night one day.
@Miniac thank you for replying. Really good to know as I have some molotow chrome but have been hesitant to use it on miniatures because of the curing time. Thanks again, and another great video

Smashing it mate!
That death metal growl was especially spicy! Sick paint job, bro.
19:05 pure fun. as it should be
Progress on the Dark Eldar, Huzzah!

if you use a stiffer bristle like a toothbrush to get better splatter with the tamiya clear red it helps a lot
Great video Scott, nice to see you working on something up close and talking through it all, even the slip-ups.
Out of interest, what’s this white wash product you mention? Sounds handy!
It's made by Lethal Shadows!
@@Miniac You rock! Thanks for the love
The chrome detail is awesome. It reminds me of the cover to the old film Dark Portals The Chronicles of Vidocq
This is so helpful! Thank you!
That mirror effect is very cool.
Love it scott keep the videos coming ❤
This was sick man
I love that freehand on the shell so much it's kind of a shame it's not a little more prominent.
At long last someone shows the Commorrites some love... I mean uh horrible suffering!
Looks great!
Banger video after banger video fr

I agree that the different hosing color is cooler than just making it look all metallic.
Who doesn't love a nice combination of khaki and chrome?
Love the idea of a "dirty pour"

Looks dope
0:21 nice and clean. directly out of factory....
edit: damn, the new version is a good paintjob

More Drukhari lets go!!
For gross skin with oil paints, definitely watch some of The Grimdark Compendiums stuff, as they mottle and stain skin almost entirely with oils!
