+Mountain Jew of course. Questlove is a professional drummer that used (and probably still is) to sit behind his drumset for many hours a day in order to really get to his level. His drumming is just so subtle that any non-musician of course is not able to see that. bieber on the other hand is playing standard drum beats any starter is going to learn within his first year (so did I). it's just that he plays those linear, super simple 16th note patterns at quite a high tempo - I am sure his ppl told him to practice for a few hours in order to "nail" (yeah he is sloppy as fuck tbh) those beats at that tempo. - very effective way of making non-musicians believe you actually have talent. Every single drummer can do what he is doing here within 6 months of practice. from the very start. In order to get to Questlove's drumming and knowledge you might want to sit down for many hours a day for a couple of years, if even.

So to make themselves feel better they put down the casual player and make out like it's easy and anyone can do it - when in reality it still takes practice. You see the same exact thing on videos of child prodigies - lifelong drummers call them shit because they know that they were never that good at the kids age.
Well, I'm not a drummer (I play some guitar, do some vocals) and I wouldn't be able to play as well as he did, so that's a start -especially when you know he's not a drummer too. At least it's not his "instrument of choice". I was positively surprised by his performance. Not great but more than I would've expected.
I swear 95% of the people talking ish never touched a drum set. Justin beiber did good considering he doesn't claim to be a pro drummer and people who say he was just banging away are completely false, all the drum beats he played had a distinct rhythm and pattern. and YES playing fast is one art form when playing drums, it takes skill and practice to hit multiple drums in a sequence.
Tbh, it looked like he was just playing fast for the sake of playing fast. Yeah cool, he does licks and keep the same rhythem almost the whole way through, but that's all i saw. Nothing in this drum-off stood out or had anything interesting, which bored me. Just my opinion, but I'm sure not the only person who thinks that way
The thing is that m8 there are some rolls that seem fast and cool and complex and all but are pretty simple to remember...practice it a couple times..and ...it becomes a muscle memory..
Not to beat a dead horse here but his timing wasn't great. He was going at a decent pace and went faster on accident. The black guy has a lot more skill and could've crushed Justin but he couldn't sense part of the script was letting Justin win but honestly the black guy still won in my book

+Mountain Jew of course. Questlove is a professional drummer that used (and probably still is) to sit behind his drumset for many hours a day in order to really get to his level. His drumming is just so subtle that any non-musician of course is not able to see that.
bieber on the other hand is playing standard drum beats any starter is going to learn within his first year (so did I). it's just that he plays those linear, super simple 16th note patterns at quite a high tempo - I am sure his ppl told him to practice for a few hours in order to "nail" (yeah he is sloppy as fuck tbh) those beats at that tempo. - very effective way of making non-musicians believe you actually have talent.
Every single drummer can do what he is doing here within 6 months of practice. from the very start.
In order to get to Questlove's drumming and knowledge you might want to sit down for many hours a day for a couple of years, if even.

I swear 95% of the people talking ish never touched a drum set. Justin beiber did good considering he doesn't claim to be a pro drummer and people who say he was just banging away are completely false, all the drum beats he played had a distinct rhythm and pattern. and YES playing fast is one art form when playing drums, it takes skill and practice to hit multiple drums in a sequence.

Tbh, it looked like he was just playing fast for the sake of playing fast. Yeah cool, he does licks and keep the same rhythem almost the whole way through, but that's all i saw. Nothing in this drum-off stood out or had anything interesting, which bored me. Just my opinion, but I'm sure not the only person who thinks that way
The thing is that m8 there are some rolls that seem fast and cool and complex and all but are pretty simple to remember...practice it a couple times..and ...it becomes a muscle memory..
Not to beat a dead horse here but his timing wasn't great. He was going at a decent pace and went faster on accident. The black guy has a lot more skill and could've crushed Justin but he couldn't sense part of the script was letting Justin win but honestly the black guy still won in my book
