Our home was built in 1949 and we have one of those silver revolving toothbrush holders in our bathroom. Still has original peach and maroon tile in there as well. :) I’m not sure we will ever move from here. Been here 10 years and just can’t imagine leaving this home. The character in new homes just isn’t there. Super enjoy your channel and your cheeriness!!!
Loved all of your found/gifted items! It makes my heart hurt to think of those '50s homes being torn down, so I'm so glad that you saved some of those amazing fixtures! Actually, we had the same kitchen cabinet handles as the one you showed in the video. I have so many wonderful memories of growing up in a 1950s home!
So glad you enjoyed! Ahh yes!! It’s just such a shame. I’m glad we will be able to give some of these things a second life. How fun you grew up in a 50’s home. 😊
Oh this is wonderful! I really appreciate seeing items go to the right home where they will be treasured! I'm positive that's why your generous friends gift you these beautiful pieces! 💖💖💖 LOVE LOVE LOVE!
OMGoodness, the things you rescued! They're amazing and I'm so glad you rescued them. I hate when they demolish and landfill beautiful vintage, it's so sad. Esp when there are collectors out there like us who would snap them up!
I have a story if you don't mind... In the late '40s my grandfather bought a plot of land on Long Island, about 20 mins by train outside of Manhattan. At the time Long Island wasn't very populated, so he got the land for a great deal. After my dad was born in '48, my grandfather hand built a house with occasional help from his buddies from the fire station he worked at (FDNY Rescue 1). He built the entire house with his own two hands, everything from the basement cement pour, the wiring and plaster, to the roof that kept them safe. And then, from the workshop he set up in the basement, he built almost every single piece of furniture that helped make it a home. My grandparents lived there until the days that they died. Keeping everything just the same as the day the moved in, only repairing things that needed fixing. When my father, their only child, went off to college, he moved down south. That's where he met my mother and where my three older brothers and I were ultimately raised. Even though NYC always felt so claustrophobic and dirty to me growing up, a girl raised on a small farm in middle of nowhere Tennessee, Grandma and Grandpa's house always felt like home. Last year, my dad and his new wife spent a few months up north clearing out the house that he grew up in. I can't imagine how painful it was. They had to literally take apart the furniture that my grandfather built by hand, just to get it through the doorways. Two of my brothers were able to travel up there to say goodbye to the place that my grandparents worked so hard at making their home. The last little piece of them that was still alive. We naturally wanted to keep everything. But you can't airlift an entire house and it's contents 1000 miles away, just to become a time capsule. And all of our lives are down here. So they were only able to bring back what they could fit in their luggage. And that broke all of our hearts. My brother, a third generation firefighter, carefully chose things to bring back for himself and for me. He chose to grab some of my grandfathers memorabilia from his firehouse and a couple of the tools my grandfather used to build everything. And for me he grabbed a set of chess pieces that my grandfather had hand made in the '50s. He always kept them in a beautifully detailed built-in in the living room, except for the white queen. That piece lived on my grandmother's bedside table, to always remind her that she was his queen and he would build the world for her. The family that ended up purchasing the house promised that they wouldn't tear it down. They showed my dad the renovation plans they had drawn up to make it their dream home. And while the plans were very beautiful, I can't help but be heartbroken. In my eyes, it was already perfect. But I guess not everyone has the same mid-century aesthetic. But it brought comfort to know that they had their own little boy that they want to grow up there, just like my father did. They said that even though the house wasn't necissaraly their style, they could feel the love that built it and would never tear that down. So now whenever I see, or hear about, mid-century homes getting torn down, my heart breaks all over again. But at the same time it makes me thankful that there are good people out there that don't want to bulldoze over history. Even if that history isn't their own. So thank you for saving pieces of that home. To some people they just look like old light fixtures and drawer pulls. But to someone else they're a piece of historic art, or someone's hard work, or a grandfather's memory. 💗
Thank you so so much for sharing such a beautiful story! I cried while reading about your sweet grandparents and their labor of love that was their home. What a wonderful history your family has! I wish you could’ve saved all of their treasures, but I understand it just wasn’t possible. What a beautiful way to look at these treasures. They are even more special to me now. ❤️❤️❤️
I think it would be in the vintage spirit of reusing and making do and mending, to turn the dress into a skirt if it means it gets a new life and can be loved :) Gorgeous stuff!
I'm so thrilled y'all got th save the fixtures, from extinction. It's SO sad that someone would destroy homes and for a PARKING LOT!😡 I think all the gifted treasures are just incredible. But my two absolute favorites are the eyeglasses and the hidaway toothbrush holder. Thank you so much for sharing.
The glass with the small ladle right before the mr and mrs set, I think it would be great to use for dips like for fruit or chips? I love your hauls! I just barely found you earlier today & I am literally binge watching!💕
So glad you were able to save a few things. I was hoping you were going to say the homes were moved intact to a vacant lot. But at least you saved the handles and the toothbrush holder. Love your channel.

I just found your channel through another video. I know it seems weird that I am a RUclipsr that plays video games but I am a vintage lover. I just find it amazing that your friends would give you items from their family members. I know my parents wouldn’t do such thing even if it’s just taking up space.
I love all your videos so glad I found your channel I’m slowly but surely watching all the videos your so lucky to be gifted and saved so many beautiful things
I can't handle the doilies, grew up with that and can't take it now. They are pretty but not on furniture. Maybe to line some box or something. All the 50's stuff was still hanging around till the late 60's when everyone went nuts on shag carpet, macramé and rain lamps. My grandmother's kitchen was all white with a small stove, and a huge double sink ... I .can't describe it but it was a whole unit with like a tin enamel feel to it. Her fridge was old old and I guess it was a Frigidaire and I still remember that thing you pulled the handle towards you. Her milk was delivered by the milkman in bottles with paper caps. We would ride the bus to downtown to shop and eat at S & W"s Cafeteria where waiters in gloves and uniforms would take your tray of cafeteria chosen food to a table. Wow what wonderful memories, my family had a car but to ride the bus was just a great experience for me. This was about 1964 in a small Southern town. I was 4 at the time.
Those are all great finds or gifts! See if you can let that periwinkle blue gown out. It's gorgeous with the black lace. Thanks for preserving so many perfectly charming, still useful items!
How wonderful that you have been gifted so many beautiful things that will continue to be loved. I was astonished when I saw the pretty crochet doilies, my Mam was always crocheting those, particularly as 'new home' gifts for people (I am in the UK). X
Just fabulous my friend! Would you ever consider doing any videos on sewing? They could be entitled “Sewing classes by the Vintage girl next door “ I have been wanting to learn how to make my own vintage shirts and or curtains. I am shy to make something without a pattern 😊. You have a natural talent..
I love that you were able to save some of the items from the houses before they were torn down. That light fixture and the toothbrush holder are fabulous!
My mother's wedding dress was white linen with blue flowers embroidered on it and she got married in 1954. I have that dress still and it has a belt with matching fabric. I really hate to get it out of my house because it means so much. It's beautiful with a full skirt and a tight or well fitted bodice. I could wear it when I was 25 but not anymore.. I recently thrifted my 1985 prom dress in green polyester. It was gorgeous on and easy to wear but the feel of the fabric was horrible. It was a size 3 and yep that was in another life.
Laci, you are so wonderful !! You belong to Hollywood my dear. Hollywood people should have already made a 50's film with you. What are they waiting for?
Sorry to hear about the houses being torn d own. I have much glassware fro 50s up!! I must have 30 punchbowls filled with cups and so much glass, I just can't get anymore!! I am like you, hate to see it go to the dump. No one really wants them. All is plastic now!!! Any suggestions?

That makes me so mad that they are tearing down those lovely homes. People will regret it one day. I HATE when people destroy perfectly good, beautiful vintage homes! Breaks my heart! Im not a fan of modern homes...the all white thing is nice, buuut i prefer built ins and old lol. (Or asian homes lol) U got some great stuff though! I LOVE UR VIDEOS!
Same girl!! I love older homes because they have so much character!! Each one is unique. Thank you!! I’m so glad you are enjoying the videos! ❤️
Put the dolilies in a pretty frame so they don’t get discolored
Maybe u can get the soap dish and cup 3D printed
Oh maybe! That’s a good idea!
I think u should make it a skirt so you can wear the blue one if you haven't already
I just said the other day that I needed a Veg-O-Matic.
Do you wear the vintage clothes on the regular and does your husband wear vintage as well
Idk
i cant do new stuff i love vintage stuff i think my clock stoped in 1962 65
Do you use the mid century t.v? Does it work?
It kind of worked. I’m we could get a few channels, but the image was not great and super green in color. My husband actually took out the tube and we put a modern flat screen inside of it!
I am so here for a veg-o-matic cooking video!!!
Yes!! Haha awesome. I’ll put it on my list!
