    I tried to read a book about this....lots of Italian names, places, buildings, regions...understandable but i found it really hard to get into especially when back referencing. Thanks for this

    A cult would have targeted single people, not couples. Less evidence and chance of escape.

      I always thought of him as the Italian Zodiac. The crimes (assassinating couples in their cars at night) was the Zodiac's MO, at least initially.

    This is such a bizarre case. Why would you confess to something where you were not a suspect? It feels like the police were fumbling around trying to pin this on anyone they could.

      Little has been said about the victims. Apart from Queen Bee. Who was weird. So maybe the others were weird too? Or promisquous. As the victims are at times. So they become easier targets. Maybe they were swingers.

    Got yourself a new sub. I've listened to a few channels narrating past crimes but yours' by far the easiest to listen to, for me. Thankfully this case was back in the day when the news investigated their reports instead of reading scripts provided by higher agancies. The connection of the murders may never have been made by the police otherwise. Bring back investigative journalism & honest reporting

      That's the part which is unclear. whether these were random couples, or whether they were targeted specifically. Stefania (the second couple - murdered in 1974) was the only person who mentioned noticing someone strange watching her.

    Yup, if it was done by more than one person, all they had to do was another killing to get an asociate out of jail. That really, really was stupid to let the one out even though he knew of the murders before anyone else.

    I don’t believe the cult business at all. It is more plausible to me that the killer had the idea that going out during the new moon meant that the nights would be at their darkest with no moonglow. I don’t think it’s anything more than that.

      Yes that! Precisely that. As soon as Unsolvable referenced the new moon, those were my thoughts too. Nothing cult like about it. Just easier to hide in the darkness and obscure any incriminating details.

      I would presume that the killer was a disorganized lust killer. He most likely choosed the first two couples beforehand and then just found the rest from the terrain. Most likely the killer had a history of being a peeping tom. He was not in a relationship during the murders, but it is possible that sometime between he could have had a relationship. Another possibility is that he was incarcerated between the crimes. I would estimate that the killers age in 1968 was between 20 and 30 years. In 1985 he was between 37 and 47 years old. He worked in a profession that did not require any education. The perpetrator got sexual pleasure from mutilating the victims bodies.

      To help you I would say that the answer is the murderer enjoys it. But you don't. Neither do I. So we wont become killers. If you look at a documentary on Jeffrey Dahmer you will see it more clearly.

      Very true. Magdalen Nabb also wrote a book in the 90s with the same title. As infamous killers go, it right up there with Jack the Ripper.

    If it were a cult (more than a handful of people) then we'd all have more information about them. Cult members leave or decide to rat out others. Since none of this has happened, I'm suggesting this was all the doing of one terrifyingly sick individual. May the souls stolen rest in peace.

      The facts point to the opposite. He was very well organized and methodical hence the lack of evidence. After a close call with the sprinter bolting from the tent he called it quits. They also say he didnt leave any dna on the stamp if im not mistaken

    The murders did not stop until police had the right suspect, I guess. Or maybe it was someone who was in prison and had been let out once a year. Because some prisonguard let him, for some reason. That would then point in the direction of the man who killed his wife. As with Jack the Ripper the murders stops when the murderer is imprisoned. So a mentalpatient or criminal feels likely. If the cult stops and the murders stops at the same it might indicate the murderer gets very sick and voluntarily goes to hospital, being abandoned by his members.
