Benson got hit with a crazy shot, but he’s always in really good shape, and he popped right back up, and the round was still competitive. He got caught by the kick but if you watch the entirety of the fight there’s no KO, just a knock down

    • @augoosto11
      @augoosto11 8 дней назад +3

      So, initially, I was totally wrong. I mis-remembered the fight because the years of seeing that clip in highlights had me remembering that as a knock down. So, I re-watched the fight to see if it was what I remembered (and to try and find material I could use to make it look like I wasn't wrong). It wasn't a KO though like you said. However, there were multiple situations in that round after the kick where Benson was eating nearly 10 seconds of unanswered shots on the ground. I truly believe a modern MMA ref would've called the fight more than once in that round and it would've been chalked a TKO.

    I don't understand the constant compliments for strikes that did not land. These commentators got excited when Henderson through a four punch combo. The problem is none of them landed. Then there was un uppercut/cross combination, and another commentator said, "Ooh, that was nice". Again, the combination did not land. It does not matter how well you throw a punch until that punch lands.
    I thought Henderson had won 3 rounds to 2, but if you go by the 6th alone, Pettis won. Especially since Henderson should have lost a point in that 6th, it was his third kick to Pettis' pomegranates.

    I think it comes down to the hair. If you’re constantly thinking of tucking your hair… those are constantly reoccurring moments where you have to give attention to a non essential part of your combative objective. Like in all of sports; outcomes can be determined by split second reaction and decision making times. I think this mode is hindered by constantly adjusting gear, i.e. loose fitting shorts or long hair needing to be tucked while in that moment, an offensive strike could be offered instead, or a block or counter if a threat is incoming. Advantage goes to Pettis for having no hair to tuck or loose fitting clothes to adjust; thus allowing him full concentration and attention on the combative task at hand.
