THIS GAME changed everything when it comes to story telling and gaming. The lighting, the textures, the entire environment, the story is compelling and relatable. this is how you make a GREAT single player game.
Awesome play through…. I do find it interesting that in many play throughs I’ve watched most ladies choose to kill Lord Shimura while most men choose to spare. In all this game is great it brought me to tears. Couldn’t think of any game before that that did
Not speaking for everyone obviously, but I think we ladies chose to kill the uncle because we don’t think of Jin in that moment. I personally wasn’t thinking of the journey of becoming the ghost, I was only thinking “I love my uncle, I’m doing this for him” I get it that one could argue “wow so you killed him”. It’s Japan in an era where you literally kill yourself if you fail … so yeah.. I did lol 😭 I think both endings are great!
@@MeggaMann_theBlueLion im gonna try and platinum for suree. i wanna do hard mode and then choose to spare lord shimura :) I did when it came out!! i used the assassin class mostly - i stopped playing when the raid mode came out
This game taught me to true meaning of the word sacrifice: to give up the thing you value most. Jin could make the sacrifice that Shimura never could. In a way, he was the most samurai he’s ever been when he was the Ghost. Before the Mongols, Jin was samurai out of obligation and the trauma of failing his father. As the Ghost, he served only for the deliverance of Tsushima and Japan.
True, but it goes deeper. Shimura didn't act like that out of stubbornness. He was in a position where other people would look up to him. So, the way he acted was to set an example of what would be the right way to move forward. Of course victory is important, but what is arguably more important is how you fight. Because how you fight, determins how you live. It is very easy to take the Ghost's side, especially since he is the main protagonist and we the players get the strongest emotional attachment to him, however taking a step back, shows us that things are not as simple. In a way it is way easier to throw away everything and fight however is conveninet, but when you are a leader, you do not have that luxury, since it is very windy at the very peak of the mountain top :). I am not saying that Jin is wrong, just that it is way more nuanced than that
I never understand why people kill the uncle when you have the option not to. Especially after the conversation before the fight when his uncle talks about improving things. Why would you kill him? The whole game Jin learns the value of adapting and using more practical and useful methods to conquer your enemy than running headfirst into a hail of arrows like the samurai did. Jin would be a flake if he, all of a sudden, reverted back to the dogmatic traditions of the samurai after all he has learned about overcoming the odds. He learned that the samurai and his uncle treated human life too cheaply. There are better ways. Learn from your mistakes. Don't let death be the lesson. But getting back up after you've failed. That's what matters. He is the ghost. Not the samurai. That's what the entire game is about. The samurai died at the beginning of the game. I think it takes a stronger human being to live with shame and move forward than to simply give up and accept death.
@@DaneofHalves For me it stemmed down more to Jin killed his uncle because he loved him. It wasn’t about going against the samurai code or remaining the ghost etc. i interpreted the scene as them just being father and son during an era in Japan where if you fail, you typically kill yourself. So me killing him when he asked was a final act of love But I agree with everything you’re saying! ☺️
on my playthrough I assumed that if I spared Shimura he would take his life anyway, since he would want to have died with honour. I do prefer the spare ending though.

What makes you realize on the final choice is that if you spare him, the Shogun will kill Lord Shimura for not killing the ghost. So honoring his wish for death, is the way to let go of the past and honor that you once held dearly, with the one person you were closes too.
I don’t recall ever hearing that the Shogun killed Lord Shimura in the spare ending, the most I’ve gotten was hearing some enemies that said something akin to “doing what Shimura couldn’t” but never was it implied that Jin’s uncle was executed or even dead as I recall, also the dialogue is different if you did decide to kill Shimura and in this scenario they did go out of their way to mention his death so both instances were done purposefully. Plus it’s already confirmed that the “canon choice” is to spare Lord Shimura since that’s what the game has been leading up to with Jin’s character development and the side stories, it’s still your choice and opinion on whichever ending you prefer best but there is a definitive “narratively accurate” choice regardless.
Lol . Why all the girls ,first act up like they dont want this to happen , yet they all choose to kill the uncle . Hardly any male streamer chose to kill him , they all spared him . Killing him is a samurai way , and we are not samurai anymore , we are ghost . Sparing him was the way of Ghost , that he is not bound with this honour ritual . Yet you choose to follow the ritual. Jin disobeyed his Uncle throughout the game , so it is not like his character to obey his uncle's wish to die honorably
@@musicxxa6678 exactly how I saw it. I agree with everything mans said after his “wOmEn” comment - but the way I see it is that at this moment Jins love for his uncle surpasses anyyyyy of the honor / ghost dilemma. He simply loves his uncle and is doing “right by him”
