The Insta360 One X is super fun to use. I'm sure image quality will only improve as the technology develops. The biggest drawback is there is no way to add an external mic and it is so easy to scratch the lenses. This camera must be returned to the pouch as soon as you turn it off. I've already had to send in my camera to have the lenses replaced - $174, ouch! Welcome to 360!

It’s important to consider that while it does capture 360 degrees the areas that look the best are where the center lens is pointing. Areas around the edge will be softer with more artifacts-a limitation of any lens. So if quality is the upmost importance than pointing the lenses around the subject should be advised.
Best overview of this camera I’ve seen thus far. Your explanation of the technology used for editing clearly explained the ease of use of it. Thank you.
Sorry, I'm a bit late for asking this and I'm also a newbie in videography. What is the setting for this? is it 5.7K? or 4K 30fps?. I'm using insta360 OneX.
I wish we would get affordable and up-to-date image quality for 360 cameras soon. I really do like the benefits of having 360° for post, but it can't replace recent phone cameras with a natural FOV yet.
When using the long selfie stick, I always get some artifact in the form of a fuzzy black oval that looks like its half way down the stick. Have you found a way to avoid that, or did you edit it our in post?
I get it when using it handheld for selfie shots. But it's only at the very base of the stick. That's why you don't see it in these shots - the base of the stick is inside the car.
Great video pal. I'm seriously considering an Insta360 X2 and will also be using it to film a classic French van and an American police car. Completely get why you would film the Mustang. Great footage.

I am having a blast with my insta360 one x. I shoot my bike rides, and It makes filming by yourself a breeze. Unlike the gopro or other action cams, you don’t have to worry about framing at all. Just set it & forget it. All the magic happens in post. I cannot stress enough how freeing that is. Especially when you are biking and trying to focus on the road. Not having to worry about where to point the camera is awesome. The insta 360 one x is so much better than the first gopro fusion 360. The editing software is a breeze too. Gopro just came out with the Max 360 so i don’t know how it compares to that yet.
Great summary & nice video. Brilliant to have a Scottish accent rather than an American one for a change. Cool car to film too. Did you just wedged the pole down the bolster of the seat & which of the 3 selfie stick options were you using (I see the carbon fibre stick is out of stock) ?
I bought one of these about 3 months ago. After the initial burst of "wow" I have been very dissapointed with it. The picture breaks up with not too much cropping in and colour grading tends to destroy the image very quickly. Just taken a static HDR video shot today which I haven't looked at yet to see if that's any better. Recently switched to Resolve for my editing to see if that brings better results. It seems the guys using Adobe PP with the GoPro 360 plugin are getting better results as they can process the camera output in one hit rather than using Insta Studio and normal editing software after.
I share your views on the picture with the caveat that it's not that expensive so we need to compare like with like. I'm more excited about what the future holds for this technology because it definitely adds to the creative opportunities.
@@DroneFilmGuide Agreed. Maybe initial reviews I watched after launch were less than totally realistic and I expected too much. Not everyone gives such balanced appraisals as you do.
Awesome video. What resolution in settings are you using when you export the insta360 footage from the desktop software? I know that insta360 records in a proprietary format. So you can't edit directly in Final Cut without converting it first. I'm having trouble figuring out what resolution to use and settings in the insta360 software to get the highest quality, best-looking export so I can edit in Final Cut. It never looks clear like yours. Thanks!
I just used whatever the default setting were. Think it's just 1080p. This is the one major issue for me at the moment with 360, i.e. the editing workflow. It's soooo slow. Some things you can only do on the app, some things you can only do on the desktop software. Then you have to import all the pieces into FCPX. It's very time consuming and as you indicate, there is little control over the export settings.
Color Grading has nothing to do with quality of the footage clarity. Only the Saturation of Colors and Brightness etc... The quality issues in picture clarity, maybe it's just the way the video is uploaded to RUclips. Sometimes it says 4k and looks like 720p quality. As I'm sure you've noticed on plenty of InstaX360 uploads.. this is the best quality video I've seen this put out so far..
I have had the One X since Christmas (thank you Santa!) and have to say that it's been amazing. The workflow is a little clunky yet, but it is getting better. Interesting. It might be especially useful for "hero" filming like climbing, kayaking, and other action. It is even somewhat water proof. How easy is it to use the footage from the "app" in FinalCut?
The footage just comes in as standard MP4 if it's been exported from the app so it's just like editing normal footage. I haven't quite got to the bottom of importing manipulatable 360 footage straight into FCPX. Think you might need a plugin for that. Let me know if you know more about it than I do please!
There's an issue with it being as fragile as hell which is another drawback. Lenses are convex on the body and easily damaged. You can get an action case or dive case but that brings quality issues with them.
