Wow, when Excalibur used to be the strongest weapon, it's crafting recipe is also familiar, where you combine swords. In this case, you need the hardmode ore swords, while in 1.2 you will need true Excalibur, true night's edge and broken hero sword. In 1.3 you get it by defeating the final boss, but in 1.4 you combine swords again, this time it's more unique like the copper shortsword to meowmere. It symbolizes your journey.
I kinda wish that the hallowed gear kept the 3 hardmode ore requirement. So easy to cheese your way through destroyer and make insane gear now, especially with the new set bonus.

Just wanting to say I think the Altars go in a certain way: Crimson = Palladium, Oricalcum, Titanium. Corruption = Cobalt, Mythril, Adamantite. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
That depends. Is your base a castle? Do you want dragons assaulting your (potential) castle? If so, hardmode it up. If not, enjoy your harpies. Also, if it's four blocks off the ground, you don't have to worry about wraiths.
