I have done ice swimming for 2 years. Absolutely loving it. This info was so good and legit. I thought I allready knew everything yet I learned much more because of you. Head tipping etc.. So thank you, sir.
It's nice to hear a Wim Hof Instructor say "Don't overdo it." I belong to an online cold plunging group that seems to want to debunk all the data and science behind it by staying in for 20-30 minutes at a time 10 times the amount of time most stay in. Why? Showing off? To prove a point to whom? I've selected cold plunging to make me feel better, improve my mood, and assist me with healing. The longest I've stayed in was 5 minutes at or around 35 degrees Fahrenheit. What happened to me was my hands and feet had a burning sensation for the rest of the day! Hardly healing one's self when you are actually hurting your body. Thank you for the breathing tips and for putting the ice in the last thing for the best results. Plunge on!
Had my first ice bath last week. Managed about 5 mins. Getting in was hard but once in I felt I could last longer but decided that 4-5 mins was enough. Aiming for once a week for the first month tjej build myself up over the next 6 months to a year where I have one daily. Likes the nice relaxing tone of this video. Stay healthy and see you again
Hey nice one! You might note that the benefits come from just doing it at all so the longer you go the more you’ll need in the future so there is no real need to try and become more adapted and taking days off is great. Cheers 🍻 good luck on your journey
Lovely peaceful video.. did my 2nd cold shower this morning.. which I actually began to enjoy (the first being breaking through the mental barrier!).. absolutely right re energy throughout the day, don't feel like needing a nap, really envigorated.. and I'm starting in winter here in France.. you don't feel cold when you come out as the surrounding air is warmer anyway.. starting this to try and help a sports injury - inflammation of a hip flexor muscle.. got a feeling it might work (+ physiotherapy too). I also do intermittent fasting as a matter of course so morning showers for me.. keep up the good work!
I am not a scientist.... Dr Huberman podcast last week on ice baths.... Shivering is a good thing. Something about brown fat and shivering as a goal ... Great video!
Anyone know - Does a hot bath after a 4 minute cold bath negates the positive effects of the cold bath??? I’ve been doing cold plunges forA couple years now but about a half HR after the cold plunge I start shivering and can’t heat up. I do exercises, bundle up and still my core doesn’t heat up- it’s awkward to try and do business calls or something social when I’m shaking…🤪
In that case 4 is too long. Definitely do a hot bath after if you need to warm up for some reason. you might try doing two minutes and seeing how you feel hop out wanting more and gradually increase it until your warm-up time is insignificant and you don’t need to use outside stimulus to warm up

Very informative. Thank you. Maybe I’m wrong but I was thinking that Rogan doesn’t have to move around in his ice bath because it has a current. I heard in one of his podcasts that his bath does that to avoid the thermal layer. 🤷🏼♂️ thanks again for the informative video.
Great video! Did you do horse stance after to warm up or do you have any other methods you suggest? Curious. I comfortably do about 5 min in 40° every morning and about 10min after I always seem to get a chill and slight slight shiver and remain chilled for about an hour or so. Any thoughts? Appreciate it.
After a long ice bath, without a heat source, I will use the horsestance. Unless you don’t mind the shiver and chill, you could do 2-3 minutes instead. Most people’s body can warm up pretty easy after 2 minutes. That’s all I do most mornings. Sorry for the late reply. Since it’s been 3 months, how’s it been going? Any update?

Long breath holds or full breath, holds and squeezing after hyperventilation is dangerous in the water. A few quick deep breath’s to override the shallow, panting that the cold exposure causes is what I was doing. It’s very safe and effective.
Are you breathing in the nose (inhale) and out the mouth (exhale) like normal breathing? Or is it better breathing in mouth for ice bath? Thank you. Love your videos.
Thanks! So nose breathing is great for calming down and I use it for the middle and end of the plunge but powerful mouth breaths warm the intercostal muscles the quickest to help with the initial cold shock. How’s your training been going?
@@BreathFitness perfect explanation Thank you. I am a newbie from Ohio. I am just getting into it and have started cold showers. I appreciate your knowledge on both cold therapy and breathing.

I’ve heard of a spectrum of techniques for right when you enter cold water and I am quite precise about everything else but that particular moment. I think it’s a mistake to control that special time. That’s the magic time to let yourself feel it all then use powerful breathing to regain control and specific breathwork to mitigate the cold. im sure Joes ICE bath keeps the water moving so preventing a thermal barrier so he wouldnt need to move would he ?
What temperature should a kinda out of shape 58 year old female start at?
Do u keep ur head under the water and do a breathe retention?
Yes but not after any significant hyperventilation. You have to be careful you don't drop CO2 too low that you might pass out before having a trigger to breathe.
Thanks for the video. About putting the ice in the Water. I like to put the eyes in the Water and have much of it melt. All the water won't be cold. Jester will be a lot of eyes floating around. The goal is to get the water cold.
, I do not to 15 minutes. That might be too much time for the ice to melt
3 minutes short :D
I do 3 rounds of wim in a ice bath. It takes the 11 minutes. I love it. But I'm very confident in my ability to not pass out.
Have you ever passed out from the breathwork?
Are you kneeling or crossed
Legged? 🙏🏻

There's no physical or mental benefits after around the three minute mark. So what's the point of twenty minutes ?
