I am so in love with this hunter build. I thought the solar hunter was borderline dead in my eyes for endgame until I discovered this. This build helped me get a solo flawless on the thrilladrome legend lost sector. This is a 10/10 build in my eyes, and this comes from a hunter main. Keep up the amazing videos my friend.
I've been using this build for a while now and... Just some changes I've made, have increased just how good this build is. For example FRAGMENTS Ember of searing and ember of mercy are much better options than ember of Benevolence and Emperyean. This is due to it keeping you alive much longer due to sprites, similar to wells. MODS Bomber x2 is a must on class item and is such a massive help, not to mention solar weapon ammo isn't needed as much due to calus being a kinetic. STATS The stats are the main bit, as you should focus on: Resilience Recovery Discipline Mob and Int are not as vital as you're constantly producing cool down for them by picking up sprites and orbs. This comment is by no way a dig, frankly I never would have used this build, had it not been for your first video. I just wanted to post these tips as I've found they really bring the build around more and make it almost indestructible.
I *NEVER* take time to write comments, but I just wanted to give you a huge thanks (and a sub) for methodically and clearly laying out the build, displaying aspects, fragments, mods, etc. Hoping to find more like this on your channel going forward. Thanks again. =)
This is the build I used during my first completion of the Lightfall Legend campaign. Had me constantly flipping back and forth between being disappointed when the campaign had me use Strand because it wasn't pumping out the DPS I was used to and then being disappointed when I couldn't just grapple through slow walking sections immediately after. Gunslinger has always been my favorite subclass so it felt much more natural running through rotating my abilities with this build than when I did WQ and felt like I had to use the new Void 3.0 which for some reason I never really gelled with even though I knew it was the most powerful for endgame pve.
Amazing as always! The ability rotation explanation is gold! One thing i like to mention when talking about blade barrage is, that if you move backwards while casting the super you will funnel the projectiles in a smaller cone giving it a better chance to land all of them on the boss. You can see that in action on 16:17 where very little knives miss Nezerac. You told us about quirks and nuances so here is mine ;)
i’ve always loved using YAS with middle tree gunslinger. i’m so happy to see it become even more powerful than ever and rise up to become an staple over the years
I find it amazing that I, as a rather inexperienced player, have been running a build very very similar. I love the ability spam of Y.A.S, i just didn't know you could refine it this much. The build I had let me throw about 4 grenades and 3 weighted knives before I was out of energy for a short while
Came back to destiny after many years and was looking for a good solar hunter and this build is amazing. I have tinkered with a ember or two but another gun that I've got has took this build to the next level and that was the bxr battler with incandescent and demolitionist. The amount of scorch and ignitions you proc with the extra grenade regeneration is ridiculous
Never would I think I would be playing a Solar Hunter in PVE till now. So much fun just doing these combos!! I did use Gunpowder before Lightfall but found I kept damaging myself with them and you lose a fragment slot.
I’ve found shocking success with incorporating two tailed fox with the catalyst into the ability rotation. Not only does it add a massive amount of damage from jolt ticks, but since it also applies scorch, if you ever have that half a second where you’re waiting for an ability to recharge, firing a rocket will usually trigger an ignition and give you the last third of your grenade. You do lose a tiny amount of time reloading, but thanks to on your mark I think it’s worth it
Soooooo... now that we have the return or Young Ahamkara's Spine, and this being one of my favorite builds, will Dragon's Breath produce procs to regenerate grenade ability energy? Could be even better than before...
small correction: knife trick knives give 33% of your tripmine grenade period, they can all hit the same target. each knife in the fan gives you 1/3 of your tripmine back no matter what, as long as they hit a target.
This is not true. Hitting all 3 on 1 target will still only grant 33%. Edit: Re-tested. You are correct. How interesting, it did NOT work like this pre-lightfall. Good to know! Ty
Ahamkara user here, you do not have to hit different targets with your knife fan ability to get grenade energy back! The same applies to the stats in the video: 1 knife = 33% grenade energy back, 3 knives = 100%. Just have to hit something tanky enough to live through your knives.
this is one of the most succinct build videos i've ever seen on d2. i was never a huge fan of solar but this has got me hype. i can also see the effort that went into this. earned a like n sub my guy.
Just a minor thing worth noting, only solar ignition procs from *your abilities* will trigger young ahamkara's grenade refund. Solar ignitions off of weapons (such as the new exotic raid shotgun) will not trigger the refund. Was very dissapointed since this is my favorite build and thought the new shotgun would be a match made in heaven, but still this is such a great and fun build to use
Very small thing I noticed when I use this subclass, if the burn from your knife trick gets the kill, it will refund your melee charge. If you throw your fan and the enemy is really weak, just give it a sec to burn off and get that recharge back. Again, very small thing, just good to have in your head
I haven’t tried this build yet, but as a warlock main that recently started playing more hunter, the best builds I’ve used for pve that also are easy to use for anyone (survivable and high dps/ad clear are) 1: starfire pre nerf 2: void hunter invis (gyrfalcons or omnioculus if in multiplayer activities) 3: some type of devour warlock (I use mantle of battle harmony and graviton lance) 4: arc warlock with fallen sun star and trinity ghoul (with catalyst) (orb gen machine)
There is so much deep information in this video that many players don't know about, including myself. The quality of this video is top notch, very reminiscent of your incredible omnioculus playbooks. Amazing, thank you!
I'm going to do some testing of my own, but a little known interaction in the past with YAS is that golden gun shots count for the grenade refund. So instead of throwing BB, you would be able to pull out goldie -> one shot for ability refresh and basically work that into the rotation on that first instance where you're out of ability energy. Could be a more damaging option overall
Prometheus lens is really good with this build as it works with ember of ashes and ember of singeing, so on higher-health enemies your dodge will recharge insanely fast.
@@Splattered23 I run a special ammo finder and special finisher, so I usually do ok and can do a finisher to get some ammo in a pinch. It def uses alot of special though
That damage immunity to your grenade is huge. I've been using Caliban's Hand with Gambler's Grenade and I lost count with how many times I have killed myself with my knife explosions or grenades when I am in close quarters combat.
I don’t think I’ve subbed faster to a channel. Exemplary work on putting this together, the transitions, overlays, depth of detail, accuracy and breakdown of everything that is synced together mixed in with the final demonstration on how it can/should be played in all its glory has lit my little solar heart ablaze. Wonderful job!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Been using this bad boy for a bit. I've barely touched solar as a hunter for almost the entirety of destiny 2 but THIS makes it super fun. Thank's for the heads up, super glad im subscribed

Just have to take a min and say thank you for all your great videos. I've been watching alot of build videos to try and get my game play up. I have to say that by far your videos are the best hands down. The others are not horrible and I enjoy their videos also. But for the total build and the description of the how and why is unparalleled. And on top the exact ways to use the mods and how to make them work for max output is amazing. I appreciate your time and all the effort you put in to help those of us that would not be able to do on our own. Thank you.
I really appreciate the visualizations and callouts. This build might fill another solar build. I've always just used assassin's cowl with knife trick. Also super fun.
Your video came across my feed. I love Destiny so I watched it. Then I watched another and another….. I am now officially subscribed and just wanted to say thank you for making this so easy to understand. Your videos are pure gold. ❤️
I prefer golden gun over blade barrage since every single shot with goldy can refund trip-mine, so you will have more grenade during super damage phase.
Best hunter builds channel by an absurd margin. I swear all of my builds come from you 😂. I had this build already but after watching this I realized I hadn’t filled optimized the mods / fragments.
Really wish they would buff the makeshift nade aspect and give it more slots, its so fun and synergizes great, but if you use it, you have no fragment slots
I have been using this build since your pre lightfall build video and has been a blast to use, in my personal experience I have had full grenade refund if all 3 fans of the knife trick melee hit a single target (has to be a more tanky enemy so it doesn't die before all 3 can hit)
Interesting. I like using Monte Carlo and acrobats dodge for rapid melee recharge and instant radiant . With Dali and and proximity knife, but I will definitely try this out and play around a bit. Fine I’ll sub
Unless they updated it recently and I didn't notice, the knives from your melee don't have to hit separate targets, each knife counts as a separate ability damage
Just a quick heads up, knife tricks energy refund to the trip mine isn't dependent on the amount of enemies hit, it is dependent on the amount of knifes hit, meaning you can hit all 3 on a single enemy and get an entire trip refund, not hitting multiple enemies
I love when content creators discover YAS. I have been saying for years that YAS is absolutely the Hunter's best PVE exotic, but people don't like the sequencing required. I will say, the loss of Warmind Cells does hurt a bit. But Ticcu's Divination can easily fill that explodey void. Personally, I don't like On Your Mark, I think it doesn't provide enough of a benefit to outweigh the utility and DPS of Gunpowder Gamble. But Its also hard to argue with people wanting 2 extra fragments.
As per usual, the best builds in the business. 👌🏾 I thought you were going to use the fragment combo that creates firesprites and grants healing from them. After this season, though, firesprites won't be giving armour charges. So I think I'll be rocking ember of resolve instead. Thanks, Mac. This is my FAVOURITE build and you keep helping me improve it.
I used to do something similar to the intro a long while ago You can use the tripmine while you have your golden gun and if I remember correctly every two shot would give back the grenade so I’d use sharpshooter for free grenades (this was before I even knew anything about build other than stats, and I basically started using them cause I loved tripmines and hated blowing myself up lmao)
Great work as always! Been running this build since Classy Restoration was a cloak mod. It is great with Roar of the Bear (Demo/Lasting). Boss damage isn’t as high as SFPWLock, but damage loop is way more engaging.
I was already running this exact build (Took insparation from your last Ahamkaras Spine build) Also, the new Raid Trace Rifle with Rewind Rounds and Incandescent adds to this and I rarely have to reload it so there's always a weapon loaded (if you have Solar Holster too)
Would using the Exotic Monte Carlo help at all with this build even with the ability regeneration? Monte Carlo would help regen melee if you don't have both the melee and the class Ability. I know that it might not matter much, but I was just wondering cause it seems like a good substitute for if you don't have the class ability.

For example
FRAGMENTS
Ember of searing and ember of mercy are much better options than ember of Benevolence and Emperyean. This is due to it keeping you alive much longer due to sprites, similar to wells.
MODS
Bomber x2 is a must on class item and is such a massive help, not to mention solar weapon ammo isn't needed as much due to calus being a kinetic.
STATS
The stats are the main bit, as you should focus on:
Resilience
Recovery
Discipline
Mob and Int are not as vital as you're constantly producing cool down for them by picking up sprites and orbs.
Well how the turn tables. Thanks for teaching me!
i’ve always loved using YAS with middle tree gunslinger. i’m so happy to see it become even more powerful than ever and rise up to become an staple over the years
I find it amazing that I, as a rather inexperienced player, have been running a build very very similar. I love the ability spam of Y.A.S, i just didn't know you could refine it this much. The build I had let me throw about 4 grenades and 3 weighted knives before I was out of energy for a short while
Love the build and love the fact you link the DIM links. Keep up the great work my guy!
bro your builds are wild this and your ark hunter is so fun
Came back to destiny after many years and was looking for a good solar hunter and this build is amazing. I have tinkered with a ember or two but another gun that I've got has took this build to the next level and that was the bxr battler with incandescent and demolitionist. The amount of scorch and ignitions you proc with the extra grenade regeneration is ridiculous
Never would I think I would be playing a Solar Hunter in PVE till now. So much fun just doing these combos!! I did use Gunpowder before Lightfall but found I kept damaging myself with them and you lose a fragment slot.
Used it since season of the Haunted! Great build even since then at 2.0! Currently rocking Void as it's just as fun!
We could have the chicken guy test it out next week 👀
@@sloweg3113i was running it to see and OMG its back in its prime. In PVE anyway
This ought to be the DNA to which all video build guides are based. 10/10 presentation, detail and demo. Excellent work.
small correction: knife trick knives give 33% of your tripmine grenade period, they can all hit the same target. each knife in the fan gives you 1/3 of your tripmine back no matter what, as long as they hit a target.
@@xGalasko you sound like a hater
bro you present these builds EXACTLY in the right way.
Aw whaaaat? :( thats lame
Very small thing I noticed when I use this subclass, if the burn from your knife trick gets the kill, it will refund your melee charge. If you throw your fan and the enemy is really weak, just give it a sec to burn off and get that recharge back. Again, very small thing, just good to have in your head
I haven’t tried this build yet, but as a warlock main that recently started playing more hunter, the best builds I’ve used for pve that also are easy to use for anyone (survivable and high dps/ad clear are)
1: starfire pre nerf
2: void hunter invis (gyrfalcons or omnioculus if in multiplayer activities)
3: some type of devour warlock (I use mantle of battle harmony and graviton lance)
4: arc warlock with fallen sun star and trinity ghoul (with catalyst) (orb gen machine)
One of the most fun and relaxing builds ever
Amazing, amazing video. It actually relaxed me all the while teaching me so much….
Thanks!
Great build, Ive been in love with Ahmkara Spine hunter since Solar 3.0 but was a little unsure how to play it in lightfall, thanks for the help!
Was coming here to say the same, hyped to have the optimized version of this build again.
There is so much deep information in this video that many players don't know about, including myself. The quality of this video is top notch, very reminiscent of your incredible omnioculus playbooks. Amazing, thank you!
Amazing videos, I wish you add a segment on artifact setup as well!
Another top tier build vid, these builds have changed how much I enjoy the game and I've been playing since D1 day 1.
I was wondering if i should try swapping out calus for prometheus... how well can you keep up special ammo though?
@@Splattered23 I run a special ammo finder and special finisher, so I usually do ok and can do a finisher to get some ammo in a pinch. It def uses alot of special though
That damage immunity to your grenade is huge. I've been using Caliban's Hand with Gambler's Grenade and I lost count with how many times I have killed myself with my knife explosions or grenades when I am in close quarters combat.
I LOVE solar hunter, it’s so fun, and there haven’t been any builds for it. Your builds are always so clear and thought out!
My guy, I just found you and I'm getting back into playing hunter after taking a 3 year break from destiny. You sir are a god.
New player here, At first I didn’t understand anything about what he was saying after about a month and out of chance getting YAS everything is in English, will definitely be having even more fun now cheers.
Just subscribed, I’ve been waiting for this build for a while. Thank you so much, please make more builds for hunter subclasses!
I was a sworn middle tree main after forsaken and doubled down after shadowkeep, it warms my heart to see how strong it's been since solar 3.0
You hooked me bud ,very well done , not just the build but the clarity and options you provide 👍
Thank you.
Bro just carries me through destiny 2 with constant builds. Ur the best, keep up with the great content!! 👍
I really appreciate the visualizations and callouts. This build might fill another solar build. I've always just used assassin's cowl with knife trick. Also super fun.
Home boy took shaxx quote of “Try throwing more grenades” to heart XD
Your video came across my feed. I love Destiny so I watched it. Then I watched another and another….. I am now officially subscribed and just wanted to say thank you for making this so easy to understand. Your videos are pure gold. ❤️
I prefer golden gun over blade barrage since every single shot with goldy can refund trip-mine, so you will have more grenade during super damage phase.
Love the editing polish on this video. Your vids always look fantastic but this one feels above and beyond. Keep it up!
Best hunter builds channel by an absurd margin. I swear all of my builds come from you 😂.
I had this build already but after watching this I realized I hadn’t filled optimized the mods / fragments.
rest in piece my beloved
Really wish they would buff the makeshift nade aspect and give it more slots, its so fun and synergizes great, but if you use it, you have no fragment slots
I have been using this build since your pre lightfall build video and has been a blast to use, in my personal experience I have had full grenade refund if all 3 fans of the knife trick melee hit a single target (has to be a more tanky enemy so it doesn't die before all 3 can hit)
There's also that Scout Rilfe when shot from hip fire it scorches troops also as many Solar guns have scorch properties to help boost abilities.
With the buff to Gunpowder Gamble, would you say it's now worth running over On Your Mark?
Interesting. I like using Monte Carlo and acrobats dodge for rapid melee recharge and instant radiant . With Dali and and proximity knife, but I will definitely try this out and play around a bit. Fine I’ll sub
Unless they updated it recently and I didn't notice, the knives from your melee don't have to hit separate targets, each knife counts as a separate ability damage
Beautiful build mate. I have this exact build but didn't know all the different effects behind or exactly how to optimize it so thank you!
This is awesome and I can't wait to try it out. Will you be making a Solar Hunter PVP build soon?
This video was so well done I’ve got to sub now, super concise to the point great editing. Clean
I don't have YAH and I don't want to pull it out of collections and take a huge stat loss, will this work well without it?
been using this build since season of the haunted and it's just gotten better with lightfall, love it
thanks. ive been keeping these gauntlets in my vault because the description does no justice to what it can really do
This is my fav build in the game. But this season, running 2 firebolt grenades w/ Ophidia Spathe is ridiculously fun.
Best build I've seen for solar hunter so far. Thanks man
As per usual, the best builds in the business. 👌🏾
I thought you were going to use the fragment combo that creates firesprites and grants healing from them. After this season, though, firesprites won't be giving armour charges. So I think I'll be rocking ember of resolve instead.
Thanks, Mac. This is my FAVOURITE build and you keep helping me improve it.
I used to do something similar to the intro a long while ago
You can use the tripmine while you have your golden gun and if I remember correctly every two shot would give back the grenade so I’d use sharpshooter for free grenades (this was before I even knew anything about build other than stats, and I basically started using them cause I loved tripmines and hated blowing myself up lmao)
Great work as always! Been running this build since Classy Restoration was a cloak mod. It is great with Roar of the Bear (Demo/Lasting). Boss damage isn’t as high as SFPWLock, but damage loop is way more engaging.
Tbh, spfw is above almost every build in the game dps wise.
I used it and holy mother of god this changed how I play destiny forever 100% the best build I've ever used
This is awesome. Thanks.
How much of the boss ability rotation can you squeeze in with a Demo rocket launcher? What does that sequence look like?
thanks m8, this video rocks !
I WAS WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO
THANK YOU!!!
Immediately liked and subscribed. Awesome video bro
Used to be so up on this stuff, then… parenthood lol
Thank you for saving me the time man, appreciate your work
You're the goat destiny build crafter
this made me enjoy hunter again ty sm
Great video. Gonna make this build tomorrow!
I was already running this exact build (Took insparation from your last Ahamkaras Spine build)
Also, the new Raid Trace Rifle with Rewind Rounds and Incandescent adds to this and I rarely have to reload it so there's always a weapon loaded (if you have Solar Holster too)
Also 'orbs on solar powered melees' is an absolubte Orb generator in lower level content!
That build is my new favorite! Thanks for sharing.
If any wonders if this build is still goof now i beat the wicth queen dlc solo on legendary difficulty very fun build!!
Would using the Exotic Monte Carlo help at all with this build even with the ability regeneration? Monte Carlo would help regen melee if you don't have both the melee and the class Ability. I know that it might not matter much, but I was just wondering cause it seems like a good substitute for if you don't have the class ability.
So glad that clash of clans is sponsoring destiny creators
Well spoken, easy to understand, and no nonsense. Keep up the great work.
This build does not work anymore does it? I never get my grenade back
Best build crafter in D2, period. I look for your videos before I create any build on my characters. Awesome stuff!!
