Brilliant color matching! I especially love the fact that, with striping only on the brim, the "antlers" stand out better. Happy birthday to both your mom and your husband, and thanks so much for posting this journey.
Great job! and YAY for Zwartbles being heritage sheep of the year 2025! Thanks for the tip about the pattern, I have been thinking about teaching myself to knit cables. I shall try it out.
Wow! That is some next level colour matching! Yes, I can tell the difference because the second yarn is more blended than the first, whereas the first knitted up stripier, and of course, the second didn't have the little flecks. However, the only people who will notice are the ones who pick up on micro-details. And you have the reassurance that your mother is craft-worthy. I hope she had a great birthday and that she liked the toque.
You did an excellent job of color matching. It’s not as striped but the pattern pops more. And… I can see how much your long draw has improved because mom’s yarn is very consistent. You absolutely nailed it, well done! You will have to let us know how much she loves it 😊
That is a wonderful match up. Your mom will love it. I have knit the antler several times. A great intro to cable and hat fits great. Always enjoy your video. Happy holidays.
I adore this! Your Mum is very blessed. 😊 This last week, I have spun some Zwartbles for the first time. What a joy! Especialy after trying Ramboullet for the first time which, surprisingly, I didnt like at all. 🐑
wow! this is amazing! and what a very fun fun project!!! love seeing your xmas tree. its beautiful. i knitted a small basket and filled it with yarn balls and stuck two toothpicks in the balls to look like a little troll was knitting. its so cute. i love this wonderful project u have here. Happy birthday to your mom dear lady! art school. oh my dream was always this.Happy Holidays to all.🎄🎁♥🪆🧵🪡🧶
When you showed them close up side by side I really couldn't tell which was which. Incredible matching! Also I really loved the "no daylight" section. Both bc it was funny and bc you perfectly mastered the Effect of using that Just Enough Light to show movement and story. Idk how to explain it but it was great.
Definitely an interesting challenge to watch, and a complete success! Well done! I hope your mom loves her bespoke designed hand spun yarn knit into such a squishy and beautiful hat. harpingJanet
Now that I’ve gotten through the video…dang! That matched so well I genuinely had trouble telling which was which. If it wasn’t for the missing news, I think I would’ve been genuinely confused. Both are absolutely lovely. (I may have to snag the pattern too…I need a green hat!)
The stripes might not be the same length, but you absolutely nailed the colors and tone variation! I definitely can't tell where the original yarn ends and the new yarn begins, so it looks very cohesive. I'm sure your mom was delighted with this gift.
The puns, so good! Also yes I did enjoy watching this type of video, curious if you would be able to replicate the colors and you smashed it outta of the park!
It works perfectly fine and it's very interesting to watch. But just in case for future projects: when you have finished one sock, hat or similar first part of something weight it, then weight the yarn that is left and no need to play yarn chicken 😉🐣
great job on replicating the yarn! :) it looks really good even if it's not strippy and the viscose tweeds are not there, it turned out really good! :)
"corporate needs you to find the differences between these 2 hats" Actually amazing work, I am so very impressed by your abilities with colour. Your painting artist skills are certainly on display! I find it so confusing to try and mix colours to get a predictable result, especially when it's fibre because the spun yarn comes out so much darker that the carded rollag. Might I humbly suggest that you add some small label to one of the hats so if you both wear them out at the same time you don't get confused as to whos is whos? (I put a small piece of yarn in the back of a jumper once where the front and back weren't obviously shaped until you put it on) I can envision a dramatic conversation in a cafe where you have to go and find King Soloman to suggest the hat be cut in half or something XD
You can (just) tell by the numbers and density of tweedy flecks and also the colours on the newer hat are more blended and less striped on the main part of the hat than in the original.
Ohhhh that worked out so well! At the end you were switching them around and I couldn't even tell which was which! How did your mom react to the gift? I'm going to bet she loved it!
Dinosauuuurrsss 😱😱😱 diiiinnoooosaaaauuurrsss! 🦖 🦕 sorry for the "screaming“, got excited 🫨🙈 please tell me there will be a video about that sweater you’re making for your husbands birthday 🥺 dinosaurs? 🧶💖
I have an idea to buy a lot of bare yarn, and mordant it. Then, divide it into random lengths. When I see a dye plant, I collect it and dye one or two of the sections. When all the yarn is dyed with natural dyes, knit it into a striped blanket. You did a great job matching the yarn! You have a good eye. PS. What is your job? I hope it's something creative.
as an Indian I live in India and my mom has many saris but I am unable to find sari fiber to spin. In our offline and online market and it is very hard to find wool because I live in southern part of India and wool is mostly found in te northern part of India I only have three options to spin (1)cotton (2)silk and (3) commercially made merino wool fiber I wish I had more options to choose in wool fibers I also have a question for you can we dye cotton before spinning?
Yes, very interesting to watch, you did so well! It is very hard to find yarn if you have a verrrry specific color idea stuck in your head so the potential is huge. Unfortunately I only have a drop spindle, am inexperienced in using it and my color mixing skills (as for painting) also need more training so I can‘t (for now) but watching you succeed gives me happiness already 🧶💖
Kudos to the sometimes genius husband of yours!
He gets all the praise!! 👏
Now I want to see a shot of you & your mom wearing the hats together! Such beautiful work!
I think she shared one on the discord if I remember correctly! It was really sweet :D
Brilliant color matching! I especially love the fact that, with striping only on the brim, the "antlers" stand out better. Happy birthday to both your mom and your husband, and thanks so much for posting this journey.
Your husband waving at you is so sweet aw
You are brave and talented!! Congratulations to you, Happy Birthday to Mom!
Oh my goodness, what a crazy good match. I am super impressed!
Great job! and YAY for Zwartbles being heritage sheep of the year 2025!
Thanks for the tip about the pattern, I have been thinking about teaching myself to knit cables. I shall try it out.
You did a great job colour matching.. such lovely hats. Well done you! Bet your mum loves it 😀

I'd say you pretty much nailed it! Fantastic!
Both your hats are gorgeous! Happy Birthday to your Mum!

You will have to let us know how much she loves it 😊
I am impressed! You did an amazing job.
You did a great job. Hubs has been paying attention. 😊

That was amazing! ❤
Pausing in my watch time to go…
…the *iron*y, Jente? Really?
…back I go to watching. 😂

Pretty freakin amazing job! 😊
Still in awe over the colours in this!! Reminds me of the height of fall TT_TT

That was a success, I'd say! Kudos!
Colorize girl you got it the hat look gorgeous
Very impressive match! I love that hat pattern! Have made 2 (though none in handspun... yet)
Very impressive colour matching you've done there! In other news you say toque like (two-k) (Too-k) love from your friendly neighborhood Canadian 👋
Wow ich hätte nicht gedacht das das so gut geht! Und ich wäre auch nicht auf die Idee gekommen 🙈
Sehr cool gemacht!
The puns, so good! Also yes I did enjoy watching this type of video, curious if you would be able to replicate the colors and you smashed it outta of the park!
11:40 I was literally just about to post about alternating yarns!
It works perfectly fine and it's very interesting to watch. But just in case for future projects: when you have finished one sock, hat or similar first part of something weight it, then weight the yarn that is left and no need to play yarn chicken 😉🐣

I'm doing something similar, I dyeing 30 to 50 grams of yarn and will make granny squares that to combine in blanket.
👏👏 uguali 👏👏

Yes you can dye cotton but not with wool dyes
