- As North and South Korea were divided by the Korean War, taekwondo developed separately. At the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, they trained together and discussed how they could bring taekwondo back into the mix. It's not just about taekwondo, it's about cultural blending.

I find North Korean accent, totally cool. I actually love all accents from different regions in Korea. Seoul accent is so sterile. I'm from Seoul, by the way. ^^
I am a black belt in ITF taekwondo, but played both formats in India, wtf taekwondo is more of sports but as far as self defence is concerned ITF is better, however WTF has better speed
Wtf is full contact(knockouts)
Itf is semi and light contact(no knockouts)

Wtf is similar to kyokushin karate except no knees in wtf and no punching to the face in both wtf and kyokushin
While itf you can punch and knees except you cannot knockout your opponent similar to shotokan but shotokan bans knees and elbow strikes since shotokan is non-contact point based strike. Itf focuses semi and light contact

the problem is not Taekwondo... Taekwondo is like saying in korea "karate"as in the US (where all traditional styles are named "karate")... Taekwondo incorporates knowledges from different schools from all korea, but... korea is shamely divided into 2 nations which are about to going to war again... and as the official martial art of both nations , if conditions still... they will be both divided... no matter the name ITF, WT, WTF.. etc...
It's always the Masters, Instructors & Students who live by the morals & tenets in harmony & love . *Meanwhile the Grandmasters are so into politics & positions!!!

Taekwondo comes from Japan. It is just korean karaté, mainly a twist on the Shotokan Style, as most original Taekwondo masters studied the Shotokan Style. They gave it a new name to give the illusion that it is an independent martial art.
And for all the chimpanzees that will begin crying after reading this: the japanese did not invent karaté, as karaté literally means "Chinese Hand". Karaté is just a blend of different kungfu styles that made it to Okinawa. You can find Katas that have roots in Wing Chun, other Katas that come from White Crane Kungfu, other from Shaolin Kungfu, etc.
Correct though Taekwondo was not called taekwondo until 1954 it was once known as tang soo do.
@@artisticsolarninja exactly. And Tangsoodo is nothing but the Korean pronunciation of Karatedo, as both originally use the exact same kanji.
China-> Okinawa -> Japan -> Korea. There were actually a few Koreans who studied under Kanken Toyama who is an Okinawan native. They did help create Bogu-Karate and Full-contact fighting.
And where or who created Kung Fu?? Bodhidharma?? Einstein?? Does it matter where & who was the pioneer?? The first is usually not the best , man evolve & improve techniques time to time.

What the korean government is doing here is despicable and not honourable.
By the way, there is no one kung-fu. As karaté has different styles, kung-fu has also (way more) different styles, with different origins.
Unfortunately, in this very case, karaté is not better than kung-fu; to this very day, many japanese karaté masters fly to China to try and get some secrets that were not initially transferred to Okinawa (or got lost). And I am pretty sure, taekwondo masters do so too (in secret, both to Japan and China).

कुछ दशकों से थेग्वाँदो के एकीकरण की वार्ताएँ हो रही (प्रयत्न नहीं ) । अपितु , अब बहुत विलंब हो चुका है । अब दोनों थेग्वाँदो का एकीकरण संभव नहीं है । भले ही दोनों के नाम एवं प्रथम भाषा एक ही है , इन दोनों में WT Taekwondo निरंतर परिवर्तन से गमनम् कर रहा । WT Taekwondo पिछले दशकों में अब ITF Taekwondo से इतना परिवर्तित हो चुका है वह स्वयं एक भिन्न शैली बन चुका है । अंततः , इन्हें एक दूसरे का आदर करना चाहिए किन्तु एकीकरण का प्रयत्न अब व्यर्थ का प्रयास है !

There is real Taekwondo (traditional, which is ITF) and it doesnt belong to North or South Korea, it belongs to just KOREA..... its creation dates far back before there was any "North/South" Korea..... However, there is "South Korean TKD" (WTF) and its a PUZZIFIED watered down version, which is also the most popular TKD today, unfortunately. South Koreans basically SPIT and turned their back on Traditional Taekwondo (which is far more effective in real life) and focused on Olympics hit point system Ballerina dancing instead of actual real life DEFENSE...... because of that North Koreans refuse WTF (very well done!) and adopt only ITF TaeKwonDo..... and because of that its vice versa for Souuth Koreans mostly, very sad.

The founder of Taekwon-Do gen. Choi Hong Hi said about different imitators (WTF and many others): "They stole the name Taekwon-Do by fact"
Firstly, Choi hong hi was a traitor.
Secondly choi hong hi didn't invent/create Taekwondo. It was a collective effort from a dozen other masters to systemize (and nationalize) other martial arts schools under one umbrella.
Thirdly, how could other so-called imitators stole the name "Taekwondo" when Choi himself wanted other schools to adopt the name?
He wanted to transform taekwondo in his image, met resistance from other masters who had the rights to preserve their own schools, got butthurt and ran to north korea.

As someone who has practised ITF taekwondo all my life I’m 31, they are both completely different taekwondo. ITF and WTF are nowhere near the same they are completely different. Hopefully one day they will reunite as one country and the north may be freed from the evil dictatorship. But please do not bring god into this. It has absolutely nothing to do with it.
