I was at that race because our family business was sponsoring Corey LaJoie for the race. I have always been a Matt Dibenedetto since we sponsored him in the 32 at the same race the year prior. It was so sad to see him tear up. I got to shake his hand and wish him luck for the future though.

Talladega super speedway should have lights for a night race
Yeah that'd be an spectacle, but I guess that their money went to the infield renovation and I don't think they're willing to spend some more millions on installing lights and promote a night race

At Talladega for the Xfinity race, I thought that Reddick was going to wreck, still sad that Gray Gaulding couldn't win
I met Gray Gaulding at Charlotte Motor Speedway, he had a hauler and Gaulding was signing autographs! I got one and a souvenir car, and then we had a long conversation with his dad and we formed a friendship there and then
I was always against Gray Gaulding in cup because he seemed rushed but dang I've been cheering for him ever since that move that almost won him the race
Same here. He always seemed like just another talentless, punk pay driver when he suddenly was put in a Cup car. But man, this year I can't help but be a fan of his. He has really matured and he's become one of those underdogs you can't help but root for.
He is the most underrated guy in Xfinity right now. He deserves a better ride for next season.

David Ragan winning Talladega was incredible. I remember getting my ass chewed for screaming so loud. That was incredible and for me, one my my favorite NASCAR memories.

I remember the day of the Bristol night race I was telling my buddies at work that Matty D was gonna win and they thought I was crazy but I was so damn close to being right and on Monday they told me they wanted him to win too at the end
14:35 ...and something DID come up, and he's still racing. Multiple top 5 finishes this year and currently 14th in Points with four races to go before the cut-off. At the beginning of the year, people were saying Matty D wouldn't let us down, and boy were we right! Imagine the party if he makes The Chase!
Matt Dibenedetto in 2020 has got to be one of the best Underdog Seasons in NASCAR history!

I still don’t know how Justin Hayley won and not Byron. You watch the wreck, Byron came out second to Kurt Busch and Jimmie followed William. Kurt pitted. How does Justin Hayley who was way far back somehow get up front. And why didn’t Hendrick Protest? It’s clear that Byron should’ve been in first after Kurt pitted. Am I the only one who thought of this?
They all pitted laps before Kurt because Kurt was trying to stretch it. When they said one to go, Kurt pitted, but Haley didn’t. That’s how.
I never once rooted for anyone in a Toyota. But, when it was Matty D vs Denny, I was hollering and screaming for Matt to win and was so heartbroken when he didn't get it. But, I'm very glad that when I think sponsors or The Woods brother's asked Paul Menard who he thinks should be in the 21, the first set of words Paul said was "Go get Matt!" .
Menard is why Dibenedetto is in the 21? Thank you, Paul Menard, who had his own Underdog Moment when he won the Brickyard!

I have never wanted to punch someone as much as I need when Larry said Brad won that race at Talladega. I don't know why it irked me the way it did.

Man, I was rooting for Matt to win so badly against Denny, thankfully (if I read correctly) that he has a ride for the 2020 season, so hopefully he can get that chance to stay for as long as he's hoping for. Though, not sure if theses guys count as underdogs but Marcos Ambrose's win against Brad K at the Glen and Regan Smith's win against Carl Edwards at the Southern 500 are my two favorite underdog wins.
Matt is my fav driver and he is driving for the Wood brothers 21 car next year.

Honestly I don’t think nascar liked Matt he lost at Bristol fair and square, but at talladega Denny went under the yellow line and they gave it to Hamlin and penitilised Matt cause apparently he hit Chris B to hard and made Denny go under so it would have been Matt or Williams win but no. Also isn’t it a coincidence that Matt and Denny fight for the win 1-2 and Denny wins everytime
I hated it when Hamlin passed him for the lead, stealing his first career win from him. I booed him at first, but only at first.
I’m looking for the moment where there was a driver who had an emotional reaction to getting his all-time highest finish of 5th place. He couldn’t hold back tears and could barely talk. Does anybody recognize this driver?
Fuck Gilliland was the real mvp in that ragan win. He never left his rear bumper and pushed him all the way.

Maybe easier said than done. Considering the only time underdogs or rookies have a great chance at a win are either superspeedways or short tracks, and very, very rarely would you get a underdog win at a 1/2 mile track like New Hampshire, Las Vagas, or Auto Club.

That’s the thing. You have to consider the amount of time you have till the next race and the TV deal NBC has set and needs to get to for the next race. It’s the same reason why Aric Almirola’s win was the same way back in 2014 and why they had to run the Southern 500 late at night this year.
