Bought one on Saturday OTD for $1850. Plays great right out of the box. I went to GC looking for a new Les Paul and came home with this. Very happy with my purchase
So, basically it's a $999 Tele with a $1,500 fretboard. I like the "Pale Moon Ebony" but, honestly, it looks like a Sharpie broke open over a maple fretboard. In no way whatsoever is this thing worth the price. Another great post. Cheers.
I agree , the fingerboard looks shit. At first I thought it was spalted maple or something. I guess the reason they can get away with it being overpriced ,is that they have also jacked up the price of everything below & above in their prices too in recent years. I mean 5 years ago , in England , a team built Custom Shop Fender Relic , for example was around £2500. Today you're looking at £3500 + ....

DARK KNIGHT! NOW. Btw. The guitar has custom wound pickups specifically for an "edgier" strat/tele sound. you can obviously get the smooth blues tones but blistering lead tones as well. Amazing guitar. Worth every penny!
Here's my vote for hoping you reviewing the Gibson Dark Knight Les Paul. Thanks for reviewing this though! I saw the Strat at my local store two day ago, so it was really cool seeing you review this today.
I think adding the sunburst on any beautiful top is criminal. Rear routing should also be done to show off those beautiful tops. Great job and thanks for the review.
I played the Strat version of this guitar at guitar center a couple weeks ago. It's amazing how well it played and sounded! Crazy good guitar. I actually considered buying it for a second and be in debt for like 3 years! Then I came back to my senses
It's weak on Fender's part.. The veneer is dead, it doesn't move in the light.. It literally looks like the horrid photoflame stickers from the 90s Fenders..

Well, most of the time these are Guitar Center special orders from Fender. Basically Guitar center has Fender make them a pile of guitars to sell as exclusives. Almost like a custom order of say 1000 guitars. Fender charges them to do it and GC wants to make a lot of the money so they upscale the price. In this case Fender had to stall their production models to make a pile of exclusive guitars. It would only be right for Fender to charge them based on that. It’s Guitar Center that makes the money grab because they think they have more worth than they do.
OK ok ok I don't know HOW I missed these incredible babes, but it must have been because in 2019 I was hog wild about the Fender 'Rarities' series and these just slipped by me. Anyway, it's 2024 and I finally found them and bought me a stratocaster! Then, sure enough, Austin had a comprehensive video waiting for me. Thanks Trogs. Rock on! JR
For that price you could get one built in most custom shops... Kiesel comes to mind. I love comming here to see how full of themselves Gibson and fender are it's insane. (Ps. This isn't me bashing the channel I actually love seeing all the reviews and unboxings ).
Makes me want to order a Warmoth.... usually Tele ground goes to the bridge being the reason for the hole. Possibly a stock body that was updated to the quilt but the extra ground to the shielding probably covers the shielding need. Also, to know if it is a compound radius, look down the neck from the headstock to the body, same way you look for a twist. You’ll see the change in the radius that way.
I tried the dark night LP at Guitar Center. Sounds and looks like a freakin BEAST. BTW, GC also did a rose gold SG guitar, I saw it in stock and immediately thought it was a custom shop model, but it was just $1600!

Great review man! I love the sound of the bridge pickup and your playing’s definitely gotten better!
I really like your eye for detail....very picky,or like my Dad used to say..."Oh, well know your picken the fly shit out of the pepper" Thanks for you work rrr
RE bridge grounding wire.... on most telecasters it's not needed because the bridge is grounded through the metal pickup base plate, through the screws and into the part of the bridge plate that the pickup is attached to. As you've seen by the pickup cavities fender use the same bodies for different guitars, if the guitar had a shorter bridge (ie without the part that the pickup attaches to) or a pickup without the metal baseplate (noiseless type?) then the bridge would need to be grounded separately with a wire under the bridge plate. On this type of bridge with this type of pickup it's not needed. Hope that helps.
Nice looking Tele! I have been seeing these advertised and wondered why they were $2500, now I know lol. They lost me at "veneer", for a $2500 guitar they should have went with a solid maple cap and not a veneer. Yeah the fret board is different and hard to resource, but I think the price is a bit steep for a veneered guitar. It's just your basic Tele with a fancy fret board and while some people will jump on it for the collectors model aspect I don't see your average player paying that much for it.
The problem with that price point is that there are a lot of Fender Custom Shop guitars on the used market for less, and most probably play and sound slightly better.
@@chomp_5412 Yeah, its pretty. I do alot of quilted maple guitars, but my tops aren't veneers. They're about 1/4" thick. Lovely wood to work with. Doing a green Tele right now.

Not wrong. As long as the strings make it to ground through metal contact you’re good. It was interesting on this guitar that the little divot for the ground wire was CNC routed, but the hole into the cavity for a wire was not drilled. On my tele this tab is located under the bridge on the pickup screw. Is that wrong?
A guitar's ground wire should somehow connect directly with the strings. On a Les Paul the connection is usually from the control cavity through a drilled passage to the stop bar stud in the top of the guitar.
On a Telecaster there is usually a drilled passage from the control cavity through the top directly under the bridge pan.
