this made me uncomfortable
Yes
It's kinda supposed to make you uncomfortable. it's a story about a dude who sees this girl who can basically get away with whatever she wants because she's upper crust, and he quits his job because of her... And then immediately regrets it.
@@aquamarinerose5405 he does not regret it, see my other reply to you
I wish I could unread this story
nah, cuz what is this story 😭LMAO
My online school has me watching this as a junior in high school. This is perverted🤮
You whiney little bitch... go watch some brain-dead RUclips crap
@@boob221 my online school has me reading this as a junior too 💀 this story is.. something else
@@boob221 my online school has me reading this as a junior too 💀 this story is.. something else
why my ap lit teacher got me reading this 😭
They literary-bullying you, friend.
That’s what I’m saying 😣
i gotta write 1200 words about this
Damn lol hope it went as smoothly as possible.
Thank you for commenting and listening!
@@dubonmot6407 thanks to you i had something to turn in
bro what even is this
For real
A piece of literature that has stood for 60 years.
It's a short story about a dude working minimum wage in a supermarket, noticing a rich girl who's able to tell his boss off, and it inspires him to quit his job... And then he realizes at the end just how bad of an idea that was.
@@aquamarinerose5405 you’re wrong, he doesn’t regret it. He mentions that his parents find the end of the story sad but he does not. He is only observing the reality that he is taking a path in life that will not be easy for him. His language implies he is prepared for it though.
@@pkmncq fair, I might've missed that when reading/listening for school.
The shietest book Ive ever listened too. Like a weird old man describing a 12 year old
hes like 20 dude, if that's old to you then you are way to young to be on this website
@@zombie-eye7816it’s still creepy
@@zombie-eye7816 yea but he’s right the way this “19” year old describes things in the story is super weird. But I think that the guy reading the actual story portrays it this way because he’s so monotone.
You're ignorant lil weenie-nerd-looking ass needs to get off RUclips more LOL
There are definitely off kilter characteristics to this story. Thank y'all for having a great discussion!
This is awful literature
It's definitely a weird piece of literature in the canon.

Not another word...
Oh da--I mean, oh, dear.
This is apparently college material.
I know lol sometimes these stories as part of required reading are questionable decisions.
yup listening for a college course rn
Yep, and it's part of HONORS literature in college... I read this story twice in a Fiction and honors literature course. LOL!
Absolutely terrible 😮💨
Yep English comp 2: writing about lit
Wtf
well this was uncomfy to read in class
Right?? I can imagine 😂.
I thought you did a good job, thanks for narrating.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that. Thank you for listening.
slow down man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Got that six hour energy from that A&P, brother!
This is a famous short story from John Updike's "Pigeon Feathers"... and if it had a better narrator (instead of this monotone guy), trust me, it would not be so "weird" or awful.
Dang--Getting roasted like pigeon feathers on a grill!
No, this dude is the perfect narrator for this garbage lol.
Oh heck yeah! I'm killin' that dumpster game 😎.
@@dubonmot6407you did a good job lol, thanks for reading it.
The strength it's taking me to get through this..
You got this! But also I know what you mean 😂
Thank you so much for listening and commenting. Please like the video and subscribe to my channel if you get the chance! Thanks again! :D
What was the point of all this I just feel weird
Sometimes that is the point of a story to make someone feel a certain way lol but I agree this one is just an odd one 😂. Though it certainly has its grounding in theme of the "folly of youth and adolescence."
Thank you for listening and commenting! Please like this video and subscribe to my channel if you get the chance!
John Updike, why did you leave it off so SOON.
It was written for a magazine and the original was too long, so the editors cut out most the end.
@@fernandorosas1257 is there anyway that we are able to find the original text? Updike's masterful word framing is one of the best things I've seen from the time.
@@CPorter I think it may be lost. I have heard some people looked for it in vain.
Updike, master of the edge.
Thank you for listening and commenting. Please like the video and subscribe if you get the chance to as it helps me out!
@@dubonmot6407 did both at the time of commenting!
This story has probably ran its course judging by the comments
Lol how so?
@@dubonmot6407 I think a lot of people don’t see the value of updikes short stories today vs when they were originally cannonical in english lit classes. You did a good job tho
He hasn’t been switching up voices the entire time and attempts to sound like the girl in the story. This guy is really bad at reading 🤦♂️9:31
Oh I'm Bad: Because I'm bad, I'm bad, shamone (bad, bad, really, really bad)
You know I'm bad, I'm bad (bad, bad)
You know it (really, really bad)
You know I'm bad, I'm bad (bad, bad)
You know it, you know (really, really bad)
And the whole world has to answer right now
Just to tell you once again
Who's bad?
fuck it up shit I love it i hate it wohoo
That's the vibe for sure lol. Thank you for listening and commenting. Please like the video and subscribe if you get the chance!
Damn, you never know what someone is thinking!
lol right?
What does this have to do with Airframe or powerplants???
Your fatass mom does tho LOL
I can't say I know 😅
Great reading, thanks
"coming out so fiat and dumb yet kind of tony". You said flat, but it is fiat. Kinda hard to tell when reading, surprised I picked up on it.
It is flat. "Fiat" is rarely an adjective description for a voice. Look at the context of the sentence too. Flat and dumb makes more sense than fiat and dumb.
"Her voice kind of startled me, the way voices do when you see the people first,
coming out so flat and dumb yet kind of tony too, the way it ticked over ''pick up'' and ''snacks.''
Thank you for commenting and listening so closely!
@@dubonmot6407 That was just what the transcript said.
The transcript is incorrect in that case. If you search for the original text online, you will see the correct line. Thank you for listening and reading so closely! And thank you so much for listening and commenting!
