It's boring, what if I made you learn the exact structure of a cell or something you thought was incredibly boring and told you it was a priviliedge and a joy lol
It is you who are bored. If you require excitement to stimulate an interest then you will often be bored. Opening a door. Cooking food. Washing. Waiting for a bus. Dressing. Buying food etc They will all be boring. Much of life is repetitious. If you have this attitude to very good literature, and feel strong enough to comment negatively, it shows you are kicking against the wrong door. Studying a cell function is actually interesting. My guess is you are young, and I do get where your coming from. I hated study at high school and did badly as I also thought what I studied was pointless and boring. I was wrong but I forgive my younger self. I suspect what you dislike is being forced to learn. Having no choice. I get that too. But Alice Munro is a great writer. You will find she can understands almost everything you feel. She did not ask the gov to make her works part of your curriculum. But she is there on merit and worthy of study. By the way at a later stage in my life I am independently studying many literature classic which take a lot of effort to read. And I studied Einsteins theories of relativity. And I learned Chinese. It all takes effort. Nobody is forcing me its true. I do it for personal growth and without personal growth I find life meaningless. Please try and separate out your response to being forced and the content to learn. And be kind to your teachers. They are just as forced as you. More in some ways. They need to earn a living and its not so easy to just go and get another job. And I suspect most care about you and your well being. Bad teachers tend to leave education as its too stressful if the pupils dislike them and they cant form relationships with the students. Final point. I play guitar and sing. But so many poets and their poetry is more rock and roll than modern rock and roll. History is full of the stories of wild poets. And if you can read their words you will find some great friends and even better ideas. You can also appreciate the most sublime grouping of words ever put doen on paper. If you are lucky it may even bring tears to your eyes. You will not be bored then.
@@colinellesmere Yes that is indeed what I said. It is me who is bored by this. It's subjective, I would hope you can understand that given your familiarity with literature.
Funnily enough I find dry nonfiction topics very interesting and read those a lot. I have read a lot of philosophy.
This sort of stuff however, especially when forced upon me by a class is not something I personally enjoy, but I understand some might and don't begrudge them their enjoyment. I just don't get how you think I must enjoy it.
Your correct. Enjoyment is subjective. There is no imperative for everyone to enjoy certain works. And if your forced and not in the right frame of mind, or mood, its understandable not to like something. Interest is absolutely essential to good learning. Alice Munro is certainly a good writer. Though many nobel prizes are awarded for political reasons hers was awarded solely on litarary merit. I wonder what philosophy you read? Western philosophy tends to be based on logic and whilst very interesting faulty in my view. It cant answer the biggest questions as they are logical constructs. Eastern philosophy, if philosophy is the right term (I would say no), often goes beyond binaries, and logic. Answers may start off in thinking but they cant be fully answered with thinking. At some point thinking has to be let go of.
Good job on the singing parts! Really gave the story some colors. I kinda wish it was paced a bit slower, but that's just me. Otherwise, very well performed! I got more out of your reading than my own.
I have this book, but the mentioned short story is not a part of it.
"Boys and Girls" was originally published in 1964 and subsequently in Munro's 1968 collection of short stories, Dance of the Happy Shades."
