This is probably the best Malcom deck, its super cool how flexible this list is and how every single card is relevant! Also this is the coolest video format yet, getting the brain behind the build excited to discuss is so great
I don't believe it was mentioned but, for anyone not privy to the deck, any of the three Pingers are also Alternate Wincons as long as they are also Pirates. They're not an A + B combo but can win you the game. Additionally, thank you Mons and Samurai for the deck tech and gameplay. I've been playing Malcolm//Kediss for years. It definitely needed an update and I appreciate where the deck is going.
I’m trying this deck out soon at a tournament. Excited to play it. Wasn’t hot on the full breech line so I have Wings of Velis Vel instead and I’m loving it. Transmuting muddle gets it as well as goblin matron. Thank you for the inspiration.

I play Ghyrson and it is quite similar in terms of similar cards but Ghyrson has a draw down as he is not creating treasure nor card draw. Will try kediss / Malcom soon.
He is providing faster damage and better board control with things like end the festivities,tectonic hazard or electrickery. Also a curiosity effect on Ghryson is more beneficial then one on Kediss. I run Ghryson, But yeah there is alot of similarities in how these decks function. Malcom is better with jeweled lotus and generates faster mana.
I wish you would have at some point you would have talked about what you are looking for in your opening hand and what is acceptable and when to ship it.
So when you hit 1 player with Malcolm, you get 3 treasures because it deals damage to all 3. that is interesting, I'm starting to include this "hax" package into my Malcolm & tana deck, but I honestly might make this deck instead and just keep the Malcolm & tana the way it is. you can do funny stuff with these hack cards and the locust god as well. So you change the word "insect" to pirate and now your locust god spawns 1/1 pirates with flying at haste every time you draw a card 😂 that's hilarious and then you attack and hit more players, gaining so much treasures, but you don't draw the cards, but with Niv-mizzet Parun you do, so you shoot players and draw cards and get treasures because you turned him into a pirate, it's funny. I need to experiment with this idea. I run lightning rig crew in my list with cards like freed from the real, that's also very good with Malcolm.
I have been on Malcom Kediss since commander legends came out. I started the same way a lot of people did w it. It was a moderately bad breach deck. Well, when we had Hullbreacher that plan made a lot more sense and the wheels w Narset layered nicely w it. Post breacher ban I tried a lot of things and ended up on a very different deck from what most people were trying. It’s the way the decks combos and busted synergies all layer together that makes it honestly super good: Magda, Niv, Curiosities, pingers, type changes, and on and on. I think this deck is the closest I’ve seen to my deck. I think eventually he will also cut breach. It’s fine 🤷♂️. It doesn’t fit w everything else. And you def don’t want to play dead cards like brain feeeze and LED when you have exactly gamble and muddle to find breach (and, here is the big thing, you don’t even tutor for it often when you can) cut breach. The wheel package makes much less sense w/out hullbreacher and the Breach package makes much less sense w/out breach. Use the exact same thinking that got you to the current list here in the video and take it a bit further and breach comes out. You won’t miss it. Lemme post a link to my list for anyone (hopefully Mons and our champ here, but anyone) who wants to see a slightly different take. Having a number of one and two drop pirates is pretty important for my list as pyre of heroes is a tutor target for Magda or muddle the mixture and turns a siren storm tamer into a dockside and dockside into a Glinthorn, for instance and is also just birthing pod if we have a mass type change in play. I like war kite a lot because it is an evasive pirate and evasion matters a lot in my list w Malcolm, face breaker, and Grazelax. It’s main use is to turn hate bears like Drannith magistrate and collector ouphe off on my turns but turn them back on when it’s not my turn. The weakest pirate is def Direfleet Daredevil. I hope we get a better two drop pirate in ixalan but it’s been totally serviceable to date. Nice to just have those pyre into Glinthorn pirates I have to say. As much as you also lean into Magda and curiosity effects I’m a bit surprised you don’t play lightning rig crew. I wasn’t on it for most of my decks life but played it in a budget league ($100 Malcolm Kediss) and I knew it had to be in the real deck. Leading w Lightning Rig first and running Malcom out after guarantees 3 treasures on the turn we play Malcolm. W a curiosity on it it’s obv insane.. and w some pirates to hit and pro face breaker/Magda it often just wins games. It’s 3 mana and I get why people are skeptical but I would highly recommend testing it and see if you cut it after having it in play once or twice. Just 86 the breach plan. That’s not what we are doing. All just my personal opinion obviously. If I didn’t say it in the other post.. CONGRATS! And Malcolm Kediss is the truth 👍👍👍 Finally people are building it right. Hey I have a $500 version w a nice Primer (I did it for Timmy T2000’s budget ddb) and I have a surprisingly effective $100 list for anyone looking to get into budget cedh or trying to get started toward cedh.
