I love that the game is mostly only censored for the easier half of the game. When it gets hard and the imagery gets genuinely disturbing they're like "Leave it"
"Dark" imaginery wasn't a problem. The german government mostly only had a problem with human characters. As long as it's "fantasy" or "unrealistic", it's totally fine. Even most violence wasn't that much of a problem, as long as the blood was turned to a different color than red.
The spread shot is like that, as it was a bit overpowered in the first Contra, so the spreading is a bit more random. Also, the spread shot apparently does less damage than other weapons, according to speedrunners/TASers of Super C.
Fun fact! For this version and the Japanese version, the extra lives code gave 30 lives, whereas the US version used the same code input but only gave a measely 10 lives.
I just realized that the hero looks like the Battroid mode of VF-1A from the anime Macross aka Robotech in the US. Robotech. Probotector. Is this a coincidence? :)
I absolutely loved top down games as a kid. Only ones I got to play were Goof Troop, Jurassic Park (SNES) and that really old Indiana Jones PC game. I had Probotector I and it didn't have such sections, but level 2 in that was also very cool.
This game is horribly hard (like all "Contra/Probotector" series, except "hard corps"), hit once you lose one life, three lives lost and it's game over, never managed to pass the first level, even "Ghost n goblins" and "Rush n attack" is more fun next to this title.
And the fact that the Japanese version of Hard Corps is easier (they have a lifebar of 3 hits and more continues). It's really unfair how Konami decided to vary the difficulty of old Contra games based on where you're playing them...
The Contra games were fairly easy. Batman and Castlevania were harder. Ninja Gaiden was. . . something else. But the Contra games were super fair. There wasn't any cheap BS in these games. If you die you deserved it in these games. In fact, I was just playing both of them this past week on my PSP. I own Super C on the NES but not Contra so the first game is slightly harder for me. But neither game is "hard". If you're dying on the first level in either game there is a major issue. Id really question anyone's ability to stomach Ghosts N' Goblins' utter nonsense if they can't beat Contra.
@Sensum-Auxilium Hahahahaha. Oh my. That was a good laugh. But seruously no. Contra, even with a suboptimal weapon, is a quick game to pick up and beat with a little effort. The key is simply not to get overhwelmed at first. It may seem like there's a lot coming at you but dodging and shooting is effortless after a while. Contra is hard in the same way people say Mega Man 1 is hard. Castlevania I and III, on the other hand, are deceptive in how simple they are. Jump and whip. Seems easy but it really isn't. Once you've passed level 2 the game stops messing around which eventually cumlinates in the murder hall before Death. I'm half surprised they didn't put any pits in it. Sure there are only two enemy types but between them they've locked down all of the screen real estate and a single slip up costs you 25% of your life bar before the games hardest boss. Ninja Gaiden. . . anyway. Contra is running your first mile. Castlevania is running 10k every day. Ninja Gaiden is running a marathon. I could pick up Contra and tear through it purely on muscle memory. Castlevania would require a lot more effort and patience but its doable. Ninja Gaiden. . . I'm not doing that again.
Hopefully, this version is available for US gamers, if for not other reason than to have a cool robot as a playable character. Does anyone know if this is available with the recently released Contra Anniversary Collection that came out a few months ago?
It is Super C. Just the censored version released in Europe because they're either squeamish about fake violence or unnecessarily contrarian which is the national past time of the French.
The european version of Contra and Super C had the humans replaced by robots due to weird censorship at the time (human vs. human killing) -- despite the reskin, this game plays exactly like Super C. (Except the game's PAL.)
@@rap6439 Well, in effect since releases were by region and Germany is part of the PAL region, the name change had to satisfy all parties, Germany included in this case.

Why don't you learn from nenriki86, Replay Burners or xRavenXP and upload the videos without filters and at 4K 60FPS or 1080p 60FPS, at least?
WHAT? NES games have 320x240 resolution, who would upload them in 4K? 720p - yep, it should be in 720p, but only because of youtube's stupid limitation "no 60 fps for videos that have less than 720p". 720p, but not more.
@@tehValorin I understand the Native Resolution for NES and the "useless" work to upload them at 4K 60FPS... BUT, Have you seen nenriki86, xRavenXP or Replay Burners videos? Other people render in 4K, and that’s fine, but it’s not necessary. Most people don’t have displays with 4K capabilities anyway. Second, 4K 60fps is NOT the norm. It’s 1080p. Not many people upload in 4K, so stop criticizing the ones that don’t. Third, this channel uploads quite often. It would be a waste of time and hard drive storage to render a video at an obscenely high resolution.
NathanGuiaYT it’s not ignorance, Man. Just put a 240p video in a 720p or 1080p display and you’ll notice a blurry and “ugly” image. It’s the same with this. 1080p isn’t a norm. Ignorance would be if I were talking about HDR. Please, PLEASE watch Super C (4K) from nenriki86 and return to watch this one. I’m sure you will understand my point, Man. EDIT: Sorry, it seems that nenriki86 doesn’t have Super C. It’s Contra for NES or Famicon, at 4K.
Red 5 Honestly, I don’t see your point at all. Most people watch RUclips on their phones nowadays. Many phones don’t even go up to 4K, which makes rendering in 4K useful for such a small amount of people. The video seriously looks fine. It’s been played in an emulator and upscaled, along with a smoothing filter, but it’s pretty unnoticeable, and by no means a deal breaker. I guarantee 99.9999% of people aren’t going to care about the resolution of a longplay of the god damn European version of Super Contra. And no, I’m not gonna check out nenriki’s video because the issue at hand is so unbelievably petty. Complaining about and unsubscribing over video resolution is just really pathetic.
