Envious. In 2001, I had a 1980 X1/9 in silver, and had bought a wrecked 89 Prelude that I was going to take the engine from and do this, long before I knew what a K-swap was. Unfortunately, time and money got in the way. Turns out, it was a pretty good idea.
@@JaviAbarth Naaah, come on dude, it sounds like you're just being a contrarian internet troll, that or you don't know what a K20 is. The X19 is a nice little car, but the engines were always the weak point. They were okay but basically gutless. This swap is brilliant.
So 'murican. Here we have something rare and nice.. -Lets put an LS in it! Smh. (Now line up all the usual comments its the owners so they can do whatever..) IF YOU WANT A HONDA THEN BUY ONE AS IT IS! But no. Ruining two cars 😮
I disagree - the original cars were underpowered, though still fun, when they could be persuaded to work. Reliability was a problem. I see this engine swap as entirely rational -- I'd do the same, but maybe go even further and make it a quick EV.
Good stuff. That's what the original wanted to be. My 86 Bertone would not have kept up 🤣

The X1/9 came stock with sublime high revving engines. Why put anything else in them? This engine upgrading is madness and missing the point.
Why put anything else. Simple. It’s slow as hell.

Better keep the original block and build a 2-litre using a Ferrari F106 head.
