I'm a new diabetic, I was diagnosed in April..I changed my diet and I exercise 3 times a day. My Dr called me rare a breed because of how I'm keeping my blood sugar at normal levels without insulin and Metformin which I was on both. They took me off insulin Early June, I took myself off Metformin in the middle of June.. I got my A1c this month....

    I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes last year. So far I’ve managed it with a moderate-low carb diet (100 g a day), and lost about 20 lbs. I’ve found that if I eat a small amount of protein (usually a piece of cheese or some nuts) at bedtime, my blood sugar in the morning is usually well under 130. My cousin, an MD, explained that protein at bedtime digests slowly overnight, and this prevents the liver from doing a “sugar dump” overnight.

      @@Dumbluck14 I haven’t tried that. Drinking something before bed usually means I need to get up to pee in the wee hours. Anyway, if you’re having high readings in the morning, give it a try and see if it helps. But here’s a caveat-I’m not a doctor. I’m going by what my cousin told me, which doesn’t make me any kind of expert.

    I am an rn so of course I won’t see a doctor lol!!
    When the doctor told me I was prediabetic 3 years ago whenever i took a fasting blood sugar it was in the 140s…
    I am so happy to say with pretty consistent intermittent fasting I try to only eat in a 6 hour window and have since added walking I have been able to get my fasting blood sugar to go 111
    So from 140s to 111
    I’m going to join the gym and start working out… it has been so hard for me to loose weight with this insulin resistance I have developed.
    I have lost 50 pounds and regained it so many times…I’m going to start thinking of this as a chronic illness… I have to intermittent fast and work out consistently for the rest of my life or the weight belly fat and insulin resistance will just come back..
    Thank you so much for this video!!!

      I think you should walk, there could be other exercises, after a meal. You should do it for at least 10 minutes. If 10 minutes is all you can do that's fine. Walk as if you are late for an appointment, or move as quickly as you are able to. If you could fine someone to show you some basic resistance exercise that would be beneficial.

    as I watch this video
    what I contemplate
    is how much physical weight
    I have to release:
    (75.2 Lbs to be precisely exact!)
    for the sake of my health
    and for my well-being.
    (I have diabetes. I need to reverse it.
    I'm open to hearing tips/advice/hacks/info.)
    the thing is though...
    I realize that I desperately also
    hold on to all the excess weight:
    for safety and for comfort.
    dear God, please please please,
    help the weight dissolve off of me,
    and please help me to no longer have the need
    to hold on to any of it, for the illusion
    of safety and protection. I am ready
    to be permanently, forever released
    from these shackles...

    I was told that I have reactive hypoglycemia for many years. Is this really a condition? Now since having Covid, it appears that I have shifted to either pre-diabetes or type two diabetes. We are waiting for the bloodwork to come back. I’m wondering if I should’ve received a lot more dietary and closer monitoring prior to adulthood. I watch your podcast every day. I enjoy them very much.

    • @techknowledgestuff
      @techknowledgestuff 2 года назад

      Reactive hypoglycemia means your body produces too much insulin all the time and so your blood sugars are low all the time. This is the opposite of diabetes which typically causes high blood sugar.
      After having covid, if you have become diabetic it’s probably a blessing in disguise because high blood sugar can be dealt with easily. Low blood sugar and reactive hypoglycemia is difficult to deal with as you have to eat something all the time to prevent low sugar levels in the body. Diabetes gets a lot of coverage but reactive hypoglycemia does not.
      I read somewhere that chromium picolinate supplement helped with reactive hypoglycemia. Try it out after consulting with a good doctor.

    Doc, hoping u can answer question. I brought my fasted glucose and baseline (2 hours post prandial) down with keto diet to low 80s. However this week it’s 95-98 fasted and 2 hours post meals… a large jump, no change in keto diet (and always minimal curve post meals). What factors directly with baseline fluctuations like that possibly vs meal response?

I'm also on Losartan Potassium 50 mg am and 50 mg pm for genetic high blood pressure and also have to take half tab Tagamet am and pm for GERD and hiatal hernia and gastritis that is why I couldn't tolerate Metformin my hubby has no probs with it but he doesn't suffer from any gastro probs . Two things: 1. Walking ten minutes after a meal can be helpful in burning some sugar 2. The Indian gooseberry, processed into powder, amla, has show some effectiveness for diabetics.
    Oddly enough the only form of cinnamon the has some benefit also has a substance in it that is potentially harmful. Thoughts?

    • @freemanmt
      @freemanmt 3 года назад

      I read that Ceylon cinnamon is real cinnamon and does not have the bad stuff that poison the liver ,
      the one to avoid is the cheap Vietnam's cinnamon that is sold in most supermarket in North America .

    • @jsmith5764
      @jsmith5764 3 года назад +1

      @@freemanmt My understanding is that cassia cinnamon may be harmful due the toxin coumarin. Ceylon cinnamon doesn't have the toxin but does nothing for blood sugar control. As Dr Michael Greger states , " cinnamon is still important as an anti oxidant .

    Is the supplement you mentioned for sale now? Im prediabetic with a fasting blood of 110-113. Ive lost 13lbs and exercise daily for the last 2 months. I wanna reverse what years of bad dieting has done. Is this product good for my goals?

    • @nicksternyr8728
      @nicksternyr8728 Год назад

      @@ashleyhaley6322 Yes, I am no longer taking them but they helped me drop my blood sugar to 99 and my father in law from 132 to 110. I still had to diet but I saw the results so quick. In about 3 weeks I felt better and had better glucose stick results. But remember diet is still important, oatmeal with berries mixed into it in the morning was super helpful in losing weight for me and managing sugar. But the oats you cook yourself, not the prepackaged add hot water ones. I added raspberry and blackberries, and sometimes switched it up with kiwis and apples. I know oatmeal isn't the tastiest breakfast but it helps manage your sugar with extra fiber and helps your Gi system process food faster. Also 2 apples a day really keeps the doctor away 😅 Hope this helps.

    Do we have to fast? I have gestational diabetes and a common problem I see myself and other pregnant women have is their fasting. Since most pregnant women have problems sleeping through the night, must we fast? I go to bed at midnight and wake up every night at 3am. Maybe I can snack, then exercise. And sleep an additional 2 hours. It’s not fasting but it would bring my blood sugar down that way

    Dieticians at the diabetic clinics are telling us that exercise works on lowering blood sugars for 48 hours. You just said when you stop - if you don't exercise every day - that you go back to the start. So which is it? Do we NEED to exercise for an hour every single day? Or is every other day sufficient? My A1C dropped from 6.7 to 6.2 and I exercised every other day. I know we are all different but diabetes is new to me so I need advice. Thank you.
