    Girl, same!!!! It’s almost like as my hair got healthier, the harder it was to find products that worked b/c curly hair products put moisture in everything! I almost felt guilty using the harsher shampoos, but my hair feels like it needs it. Can you go over what protein treatments you are using that is low in moisture? I also find myself not conditioning after I shampoo and I might just use a little bit of leave in conditioner to detangle after I shampoo. Oh and anytime I travel and they have a water softener, it’s too much for my hair! I made a mental note to avoid putting one in my house if I can I help it!

      Yes to all this! I didn't think the water softener would be such a problem but it is still better than dry itchy scalp and skin and having to constantly clean the sinks and shower 🙄

    Twenty five years ago I decided to let my very fine hair have it's way and go curly. I had beautiful botticelli curls. Fast forward to today and my hair is impossibly fine with type A waves. I think the changes are hormonal. I gave up on having curls. It was too much work, time and trouble trying to 'force' my curls. Now, all I do is let it partially dry and then blow with medium heat to straighten it out. I wave the dryer over my hair facing down, to encourage it to straighten. If there is much humidity my hair poofs a little on the bottom half. I also use Kinky Curl come clean at every wash. My hair is very healthy with a closed cuticle.(once I quit coloring it and using high heat on it) . Thankfully my hair has not thinned at all.

    Even though my hair is coarse and long I still love to add color a few shades lighter than my natural for the extra volume and definition my hair gets. I do it so gradually that my hair is still low porosity on top and medium porosity on the ends. I would love to see what products used to work in your hair! I find the ones that dont work for you work great for me!

      Yeah if I didn't hate the maintenance of coloring I would totally do it. It used to make my hair more manageable when I first started.

    I have noticed a change in my hair.
    I don't highlight my hair anymore so I have less hair damage.
    My hair is smoother but has less volume.

    Do you have any grey hairs yet? I’m curious to know what your moisture needs will be when your hair becomes grey. I have salt and pepper hair, and hair stylists are always telling me that grey hair needs more moisture (of course, this may or may not be true).

    • @HolisticEnchilada
      @HolisticEnchilada  4 месяца назад +2

      I probably have like 20 in total so barely any. They're definitely more wiry than the rest of my hair. Grey hair may require more moisture but it's not always the case based on what others have told me.

    Yes to all of this!! I have tried so many different products and techniques to help my hair but nothing works. My waves still fall flat and get too soft! I e tried lighter products and my hair is too dry. If i add a little moisture, its too much. Idk what to do.

      @@HolisticEnchilada yes. I actually just tried a texturing spray a couple of days ago. It kinda worked, I guess lol. It held up better than what I expect anyway, but I may have overused it a little because it seemed extra sticky 🤷‍♀️ is it supposed to work that way?

      @@HolisticEnchilada but you may be right about it being my natural texture. I started my wavy journey about 3 years ago and my hair looked better then than it does now. I can't seem to find that balance anymore of what worked for my hair and it's frustrating.

    • @HolisticEnchilada
      @HolisticEnchilada  Месяц назад

      Texturizing sprays are stickier than regular hairspray. If you can find the Suave Max hold try that. It's like $3 and amazing. Also, I've heard of people dyeing their hair just to damage the porosity a bit and make it more manageable since low porosity can be so difficult.

      @@HolisticEnchilada oh that's interesting. I did a water porosity test last week and it was low to medium porosity so I figured that has a lot to do with it. I haven't put any color on my hair in almost 12 years and that sounds scary lol. I'll just keep playing around until I figure it out. I've got the herbal essences texturizing spray. It's my first time ever trying one so it's a little different than anything I'm used to. But I will try the suave! Thank you for the reference 😊

    The way you’re describing your low porosity hair is not how mine is acting. I haven’t colored my hair in about 8 years and have maybe 25% gray but my hair seems to be acting like low porosity hair. I can’t find a shampoo or conditioner whether natural or not that doesn’t destroy my hair making it feel dry and dirty and frizzy even though I just washed it. I use Malibu Undo Goo once a week but I don’t use really any styling products because I can’t find anything that works. My hair is not even close to feeling moisturized like you mention. I’ve been dealing with this for 10 years now and so frustrating

    • @islandgurl4123

      @@HolisticEnchilada I wanna say yes according to how online says I should determine that. I know my hair gets crazy poofy and dry feeling with the high humidity in Texas 😢

    • @HolisticEnchilada
      @HolisticEnchilada  Месяц назад

      That sounds more like medium to high porosity hair. But coarse hair can struggle with dryness. And if you're not using styling products then you're not sealing it which can cause it to react in the humidity.
