In my opinion: - India, which follows democratic norms where everyone has right to cast their votes during polls in every five years shows the beauty of democracy. Generally, after completion of elections, countings are conducted and then winners declared. Many types of polls such as Assembly, Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha etc. are conducted in the country on regular basis and the Election Commission of India has been given full responsibility to conduct free and fair polls. The Commission, which is an Independent body, is being criticized nowadays as it is believed that it is working under the pressure of ruling government. Even, Article 324 of the constitution of India has clearly mentioned that it would work independently but there can be no denying that the provisions are not being followed. Nowadays, a trend i.e. changing of Chief Election Commissioners within a year or two year is going on which somewhere raises question on government’s functioning. There was a time when it was newly formed, the CECs used to serve for five years or more but nowadays if we see the tenure of CECs, we will find most of the CECs have been appointed for a year or two. If appointment of CECs is made for five years or more, it will help them to form new policies and implement it in letter and spirit. In addition to this, process of removing of ECs should be similar to CECs so that the commission could be strengthen. Besides, the commission must work following the constitutional norms instead of the ruling government’s norms so that it could retain dignity among the people.
