Good evening sir, Today’s motivational quote is “Stop doubting yourself. Work hard and make it happen.” Editorial is related to the Government’s demand for making reforms while appointing judges in constitutional courts. In my opinion: - Recently, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju has called for adding opinion of the ruling government while appointing judges in constitutional courts. At present, responsibility for appointment of judges has been given to a collegium of judges. The Government has been demanding this for many years however a constitution bench had been nullified the proposal of the Central Government regarding establishment of Judicial Appointments Commission in 2015. There can be no denying that reform is needed but some organization/sectors are needed to work independently. If it is handed over to the Government, the government will do whatever it wants. The Judiciary which is an independent body must work independently as everyone believes on it. If the Government is allowed to add its opinion in the collegium, it will somewhere create problems in the functioning of the collegium. India which follows democratic norms, such collegium systems are needed in the country so that peoples’ trust on the judicial system could be maintained. It is true that government’s demand somewhere indicates that it wants to adopt dictator norms where no one has right to talk against the government. If the government wants reform, there are many sectors where it can work/make reforms but question arises that why it is only focusing on the collegium. In India, there are many poor people those who are unable to get the benefit of the Government’s schemes, it must focus on it so that they could get it easily.
