I've paused at your Prelude of Light segment to let you know that on at least one occasion, while playing casually with no sequence breaks, glitches, or other exploits, that I was not taught the song after pulling the Master Sword for the 1st time, but only after I returned to the temple.
After staring at the thumbnail and thinking about the things the Ocarina and songs unlock, I've come to the conclusion that most of the game can be played without the Ocarina or songs with the help of glitches and exploits. However, it cannot be beaten on account of needing Magic to use Light Arrows on Ganondorf, which is unfortunately locked behind a Great Fairy Fountain and Zelda's Lullaby. Now to watch the video and see if I'm right or wrong... *Edit:* So after watching it seems I was right... until I wasn't. Despite having literally been thinking about it earlier today, I somehow failed to account for Ganondoor being there to warp us to the end. There were smaller details I was also wrong about, such as how to enter Dodongo's Cavern, but we can ignore those for now. In the end, this was an amazing video and seems like a fun challenge! Can't wait to see what else you have in store
When I saw the rules at the start, my first thought was that it doesn't preclude Ocarina Items at all, because the whole thing about it is that you're playing literally anything besides the ocarina. Can't say I can knock that after seeing how it was used either; no songs were used nor needed, and that isn't an ocarina. Link just learned the same lesson we all did as kids: everything is an instrument with the right determination.
Magic isn't real, but physics ARE! Time is physics, walking through walls is physics. Link just needs his thesis to be peer reviewed in order to receive his doctorate. Also, having Dragon's Trial as your outtro will never not cause me to freeze up. Brunhild's 5 second DPS check will always be the meanest thing Cygames has ever done to their playerbase.
If it makes you feel any better about bomb-hovering, MajinPhil, one of the top Majora's Mask speedrunners, has gone on extensive record to say that OOT bomb-hovering is hot garbage in comparison to MM bomb-hovering. So yeah, even the top dogs of the top dogs think it's ass.
First of all I love the video, your voice is super nice to listen to and I'm always a sucker for restriction based runs of games from my childhood. I always do that once a game gets too easy or stale, really re-invents the game for me. Secondly, now I gotta know what boss you think is the BEST in Ocarina of time
I think Barinade is the best designed boss in Ocarina of Time. It has several unique phases so it doesn't feel like doing the same thing several times over, and low downtime so you don't feel like you're just waiting for your opportunity to do things.
I mean, technically you sort of can since you can trick the game to move you straight to the credits by playing a completely separate game, so you beat the game with basically no time invested in said game 🤔
Surprised that you couldn't find any set instructions for getting through the desert without the guide. There used to be quite a lot of them back in the day, which was helpful for my brother when he did the OoT uber challenge (such a weird challenge, but it's also a rather interesting one not too different from this one, save for some extra restrictions, like the need to use the broken goron's sword.)
I did a three heart self challenge (no fairies, break/lose shields/deku sticks/nuts/etc since I had no guides on how to use glitches and bypasses) back in the day, so no, Twinrova is not the worst boss. Bongo Bongo is. That drum is an aiming nightmare.
@@iridradiant Z target the hands and shoot as the drum knocks you upwards. You can also make him easier by grabbing the ice arrow, which immediately makes his eye vulnerable after freezing one of the arms :)
@EonAegis I think I did it with the hookshot (longshot?) as I didn't allow myself arrows. I remember half the time missing even with z targeting from the drum bouncing me up. I barely got through that boss.

Depends. Obviously the game forces you to learn songs, but you don't need to learn all of them, nor do you need them to enter the temples (apart from maybe Spirit Temple as a child?), without glitches, you only really need to play the Ocarina about 4 times max(Darunia, Spirit Temple as a child, Shadow Temple, Temple of Time). Not sure what else you would use it for (can beat Shadow Temple without Lens of Truth, so don't even need to do the well, therefore not needing song of storms).
You also need it to enter Zora's domain atleast twice, three times at minimum in the water temple, once in the shadow temple and once in the spirit temple. Once to enter the Forest Temple (Mido) Even without counting the forced pulls from learning, you're forgetting a good amount of Ocarina plays
I'm curious if it's possible to do this in Majora's Mask, which, to my knowledge, is just a fancy way of asking if you can beat the game during the Deku Cycle since I'm pretty sure you have to learn the Song of Time to get out of the Deku Cycle.
Ya know instead of walking back into the forest as kid link you could have just save warped as Link's spawn point outside of dungeons is his house as a kid and the temple of time as a adult as at least you would have skipped that 1 owl. Also fun fact unless using a weird mix of wrong warping and SRM/ACE to equip the Mirror Shield as child Twinrova would be impossible, additional fun fact Child Link for some reason can not actually trigger the Twinrova fight in the first place so even if you bomb hover into the boss room you would not have to worry about not having the Mirror Shield so you would have to wrong warp into the defeating Nobaru cutscene to even set the flag for Twinrova to spawn. But again you can't even beat Twinrova without having the Mirror Shield for some stupid reason so you have to glitch it onto yourself, like the Nobaru Iron Knuckle fight just does not spawn for Child Link so neither does Twinrova as for some reason it needs that door to open And yes Twinrova is the worst boss in the game as it's just pure RNG even if you do have a little RNG manip, and fun fact it is the only other boss you can't kill as kid link without glitching as you can just frame perfect equip swap to use the Hammer as child
Lets be real, Zelda (or is the green tunic hero's name Ganon? 🤔🙃) wasn't playing an ocarina, or even pretending to with his sword. He was thinking about trying to use his sword as a grass whistle, then realized. That's a stupid thing to do, so he didn't put his lips on it and try and blow some notes
You can damage ganondorf without light arrows. While i never won doing it as a kid i didmt know you had to use them so in my endless fights against him i learned while stunned from his own magic you can land jump attacks on him. Unless im having false memories i remember that being able to hurt him
That is what I did, but that just makes him vulnerable to light arrows first. I'm not sure if the magic damages him but even if it does, Ocarina of Time has a mechanic where a boss must be in a specific state in order to be killed, and often has to be killed by a specific type of damage. Phantom Ganon, for example, has to be killed by swinging damage (sword, stick, hammer etc) while he's downed, even if his HP can be entirely depleted by young links boomerang. Ganondorf has to be downed in order for him to die, and to down him, you need to use the light arrows. No other method works :(
You can only buy bombchus there once you have the bomb bag, so I can't use that to get the bomb bag. The market shop and the bowling alley are both programmed to only start functioning after getting the bomb bag, but the bombchu item itself is a self-unlocking item otherwise, meaning that if you find them through any other means (chest or desert salesman) they still unlock regardless.
3:51 Or just... do what I've done in my BOCC run (self-invented challenge, if you're interested, I'll give you the details) in MQ3D - do a Navi Dive in Kakariko after getting your bombs, complete the better BotW right away and then... cut the lensless desert bs. I assume in OoT classic there's no bombs needed to complete Jabu-Jabu hence why this is possible (been a loooong while), but in MQ you can actually get Bombchus in there right away, making the entrance to Dodongo's Cavern quicker to access. I needed bombs to megaflip over the Gerudo Gate, apparently skipping that gate was pretty easy here.
The explanation is I raced the corpse to get the hookshot. You can either save warp out (save and quit) or just stand in the door opening as the door crashes down to void out return to the entrance of the map. The song of time isn't required to get out :)

The Gold Skulltulas were so that I could get the Adult's Wallet, and thus buy the bombchus which cost 200 rupees, which in turn would let me enter Dodongo's Cavern without a strength upgrade. Of course, it was during editing that I realised I could've just... picked up the Silver Gauntlets. I'm 99% certain that would work. On the other hand, Nabooru getting kidnapped 7 years late is kinda funny, so I'm glad I did it this way :'D

You can either upscale in emulation, or use Ship of Harkinian which natively runs Ocarina on PC, which is what I used in this video :)
