Thank you so much for showing the drainage hole thing. Genius.
looks great, you can hang a piece of cloth over edge to prevent overflowing from rainfall as well
The drain hole makes me think of Liebig's Law of the Minumum. I'm gonna have to try this over the summer! Using plants you collect from the wild is always fun to experiment with.
Haha it totally is like the law of the minimum 😆, I love using native plants! Let me know how your setup works out for you!!
Super great! I would suggest attaching a sponge filter to the air stone! A very large one can be found for only $16
That would supercharge the pond! 😎
I put out a patio pond this year and I am really enjoying it. Great video.
Wow I love the patio bowl
Thanks :)
You've been a inspiration to me I love your content and everything you do! I'm starting a channel and just order a bunch of stuff to start my first fish room! Thank you so much for everything you have done! God Bless and Much Love! ✌️
Hey thanks for the note :) I’m glad you enjoy my content. Congrats on your new fish room! I’ll have to check out your channel 😁
@@AquariumPlantLab Thank you!!! ☮️💙
Awesome video and the instrumental you used kept me zoned in lol
Love it. I did the same. Just add a tiny pump. I like the idea for a hole to control water level. Some of fish are so tiny, they might get out from the hole.
Haha you know, I never thought of that! I doubt they would fit but it’s possible 😂
I liked ur video....will try this out
Love from 🇮🇳 India
Subscribed👍
Thanks for the sub! Good luck with your pond 😃
thanks for making the steps so simple! can’t wait to try it myself 👍😊
This video made me setup a pond
I’m glad 😃! Enjoy!
Yea idk what it is about those tetra pumps but man they last forever and they are such good quality definitely the brand for air lining!
Great content. They add lots to a garden 🙂
Great idea man. Thanks!
Thanks for watching and commenting 😃
Awesome setup buddy
Thank you!! 🙏 😃
Thanks! I got some helpful tips from this 🤩
Im glad you enjoyed it!
Great idea!
😁
Awesome thanks! Liked. Subed. Used link. Purchased pump. Appreciate it. ✌🏻😘
😊🙃
Drill a hole on the side so when it rains it doesn’t over flow !
I did :) 4:22 👍
I dont bother. When it rains, they stay at the bottom.
Did you not watch the video?
@@AquariumPlantLab doesn't matter. They will swim down if the water gets too high. However, a cage is a must. (Much bigger bucket pond, 4 pretty patterned goldfish, had ryukin but they got eaten)
I love your aloe
😁
Awesome pond👀💗👍🏽
Thank you!!!
Hey! Another no filter pond! Sick. I am doing a multicolored dwarf nymphaea/ japanese iris with goldfish pond.
Thats cool!!! I would love to see a video of it 👍
@@AquariumPlantLab i will need to start updating my channel again. Havent uploaded since i moved lol.
I have done a outdoor mini pond too. I wanted white clouds but they are prohibited here. Hope to upload the video soon. Great job!
Thank you! I’ll check out your channel, cheers 🍻
Just wondering, does it have filter ?
@@kevinpugh1129 No filter.
Substrate provides good hiding places for predators larva like dragon fly that kill and feed on fish fry and small fish thus emptying your fish tank.
While this can happen I have never had an issue with Dragonfly larvae. Thankfully!
Wow awesome views and a brilliant idea i made my pond also in just 2kilos cement only
Super simple!!!
You didn't mention what problems you encountered that made you want air stone this time.
I believe that was discussed in a previous video. The main issue I encountered was development of biofilm. The airstone is not necessarily required but does help to prevent biofilm from getting too thick. Once plant growth really gets going biofilm usually isn’t an issue and the airstone can be turned off. Just monitor your fish for awhile to make sure oxygen levels are sufficient for fish health. 👍
@@AquariumPlantLab Thanks, I haven't watched all the videos, but putting together my supplies getting ready for my porch pond!
Thinking about doing this but for indoors. How do you control any algae?
I have to ask why didn't you use a cheap sponge filter. Then you would have gotten the same effect and had your pond filtered at the same time? BTW I don't mean to be a know it all because I'm not.
Any way I like your pond and I'm planning on doing one in the cellar where I have my tanks.
You totally could! I generally think filters are over rated, at least for planted tanks. But thats just my opinion :). Certainly wouldn’t hurt to throw a sponge in there!
can you put guppies in the tank?
@@jessica-hi2xw Absolutely Jessica, sponge or box filters work best with guppies, because they won't suck out your baby fish and they don't have a strong flow with the returned filter water. However they do look like something that belongs in your toilet tank, not in your aquarium.
I love the idea of using a hole to keep a max water lvl, after some heavy rain I lost almost half my duckweed haha
im planning on doing the same with some guppies! but btw do you have to do water changes like any other fish tank?
I would always recommend periodic water changes. If you have a strong colony of duckweed growing then you don't need to do as many/frequent of water changes, but I would still plan on doing some. I periodically test the water in all of my setups and use that data to guide when I should do water changes.
Dude, love your videos.Evevr watch Green Aquas videos, and Rachel O’Leary’s videos.
Thank you!!! And yup, I definitely do! I love this community, so many great people out there :)
I thinking about buying one of those pumps but does it come with that tubing or do you have to buy it separately
All that comes in the box is the pump from what I recall. You will need to get tubing and ayirstone separately. 👍
@@AquariumPlantLab ok thanks
What chemicals or water conditioners do you add for fish and plants?
I have found adding just a little bit of charcoal helps plants who are heavy route feeders the charcoal can absorb water available nutrients and store them in the substrate once the carbon breaks down from nitrogen
Great idea 💡
Really nice setup, could you advice floating plants that can do well in shade without direct sunlight? I have a goldfish pond turning pea green with algae, cant figure our what to do, maybe the floating plants might help.
Honestly that’s going to be tough but if there is enough indirect light then duckweed may work. I would start with duckweed and see if you have any luck!
Duckweed! It will take out the nitrogen and give your pond shade but you need to scoop it off because it multiplies and covers a top really fast I don’t think it’s going to help with your allergy just need to pull that shit out or get more fish
can you put guppies in the tank?
Ive been thinking about getting some turtles and was looking to build a kitty pool pond for them. would this pond build be able to host turtles or is this specific to only small fish? also would there be any specific fish that might help filter water?
Ive never kept turtles, however, I would imagine that they would need more filtration. This pond works for small fish with low bioload.
@@AquariumPlantLab thank you!!
Nice pond👍
Thanks! 🙏
What temperature was your 10 gallon when you had them in it?
Can fish survive in there with just the duckweed only?
Absolutely just don’t over do it with your fish load. I always recommend monitoring your fish and water quality for the first few weeks to make sure everything is stable and healthy. I’ve done this for several years now with no issue, in fact the fish thrive 👍
@@AquariumPlantLab Ausome! I plan on doing this soon. Are mosquito fish a good choice?
@@ORCAFURY should be look up their temp tolerance and compare with your weather. If it gets too cold during winter just take them in. Also make sure the water temp doesn’t get too high. Too much sun can cause that especially with small tubs. Periodic water testing and water changes are always a good idea too. Good luck! It’s fun :)
@@AquariumPlantLab Noted thank you! What other fish would be best for low maintence would you recommend?
@@ORCAFURY white cloud mountain minnows are an excellent choice!
Even if they're keep inside the house, they do fine with tap water, no ph level or water conditioner???
That depends on your specific water. I use water conditioner to take care of chlorine. But otherwise my water doesn't need any adjustments. Ive never had to adjust water parameters actually 👍
@@AquariumPlantLab Thank U!!
You left them in an uncycled bucket for a week ????? No one died on an ammonia spike ?????
Yup and the fish were very happy in there. plants are remarkably efficient at absorbing ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Especially floating plants. I periodically tested the water in the bucket and it continually read 0,0,0. In fact I had to add some ferts to the bucket to keep the floating plants happy 👌🏼
Do you have to take the fish inside in the winter?
That really depends on where you live. Around here we rarely go much below freezing. Our winters are generally in the low 40s. Most people will tell you that white clouds can stay out year round at that temperature. I generally bring them in just to be safe but this year I am tempted to leave them out during winter. Not sure on rice fish though as I have never kept them!
what would be a good fish for a 44 gallon pond that is outdoors year round? (I'm in zone 8a Austin tx) I have two mosquito fish in there currently but want something a little more brightly colored (I can barely see them in the black tub)
How cold does it get there on average? White clouds could probably work, goldfish?
@@AquariumPlantLab Thank you! I got white clouds and they are doing splendid :) also can wait for them to poop like crazy so I can fertilize my balcony plants!!!! :) :) :)
oh it can get down to 15 degrees, but the people at the pond nursery said that their white clouds just slow down and then get back going once it warms up...then they said to take the fish inside officially if the pond is at risk of freezing solid
Do the plants really help maintain the water quality?
Absolutely!
It looks a bit empty? Are you going to add more?
Oh ya! I’m going to collect some native plants to put in there along with the white cloud minnows. I’ll do an update on that before too long :)
can you put guppies in the tank?
🌈💕💕💕
😃
Would this work for sarasa comet goldfish?
While the general concept would, Sarasa’s would require a much larger tub. They also produce a lot more waste than minnows so you would want to manually remove waste buildup periodically.
2:32
Tell me where you got that duckweed
Plz?
Probably pet store most should have or look near a pond or lake
I’m thinking about getting goldfish for my outdoor pond tub, I don’t have a filter or anything, I have 2 solar pond water Fountains and aquatic plants on the way... will they be ok ?, I know goldfish are hardy fish and can survive in anything
could you please link where you purchased the solar fountains 🙏🏼
@@noname-ru8eq I got them off Amazon
They are called Sunlitec Solar Fountain with Panel Water Pump
If you have enough water volume and plants (or lots of algae) then you should be fine! Just test the water occasionally 👍

DOES AIR PUMP HAVE ADJUSTABLE SETTINGS?
The pump itself doesn’t (most don’t). But you can buy a control valve to install in the airline which gives you control. They cost like 25 cents 👍
@@AquariumPlantLab THANK YOU
can you leave cold water fish outside all yr round
If it is deep enough you can.
If your pond ices over there needs to be enough water underneath for the fish to survive.
Hi can I put my Betta in same set up
If you were to use the setup indoors with a heater then yes, but a betta wouldn’t do well outside unless you live in a really warm climate. I would also suggest turning the air pump down to reduce “flow” for the fish.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you ;)
Name of mini green plant
Duckweed :)
could you put guppies in that tank?
yes
Definitely
You heart comments ... answer me !
I did!
Should be off to one side . A pond does not have that much motion. Duck weed will not grow ... and you can’t see your fish
The duckweed grew great in this setup!! This was last year. I like the look with the bubbles centered. Personal preference 😉
I thought white cloud minnows were hardy enough for the winter. How low does it get where you are?
It can get down to the low teens (F) from time to time.
can you put guppies in the tank?
@@AquariumPlantLab can you put guppies in the tank?
@@AquariumPlantLab wow okay! thank you.
Sure! Just make sure your climate matches up with their temperature requirements and that you monitor the water temp for over exposure to sun.
I thought this was meant to be without a filter...?
There is no filter, are you referring to the air stone?
What tub are you using?
I forget the brand but I found it at my local farm store actually. You might check those types of stores near you!
You don't need the air pump
You are correct, the air pump is not exactly necessary, however, it does make archiving balance easier. Ive run both with and without. Currently I am not using a pump actually 👍
ahhh i just want to find a video were somone doesnt use electricity in their pond lmfao no pump pond but im adding an air filter that plugs in ... doh!
You can use this same setup without the pump. Not necessary but definitely makes it easier!
