- In the video i am unboxing a brand new Mossberg model 500 and telling a few specifications about the firearm. The weapon has a total ammunition capacity of 6 (2 3/4") shells including one in the chamber but the capacity can be reduced if using 3" shells. Included in the box when purchased is your trigger lock, owners manual, sling attachments, Large allen wrench tool, product registration info, and two stocks which are the soft polymer pistol grip stock as well as a black synthectic stock. It has an 18.5" blued barrel and the overall lengths are as follows: 27 1/2" with the pistol grip and 38" with the regular stock. The release lever is made on the left side of the shotgun so when using the pistol grip stock it is a thumb release only. With the firearm also comes a 10 year limited warranty and does not cover the following:
1.Normal wear & tear
2.Failure to perform proper care & maintenance
3.Accidents, abuse or neglect
4.Barrel or bore obstructions
5.Failure to follow the instructions and warnings that accompany the mossberg firearm
6.The use of defective, non-saami standard, remanufactured, hand-loaded, and/or reloaded ammunition.

I have owned a Mossberg 500A 12 gauge tactical shotgun for over 30 years and I have never had any problems with it. The only modifications I made was replacing the foregrip with a combination flashlight and I replaced the foregrip release with an extended release. It makes it easier to reach it when you have a pistol grip. As far as you mentioned a break in being quiet, I will know when some one is trying to surprise us, because I have installed dead bolt locks on all of our bedroom doors. That way we will know when some one is trying to get in because of the noise made by the attempt. You have a great video for explaining the gun and ammo.
I've dragged one of these through most my life for the last 30 years and it has never failed me in any configuration!
I had this same shotgun model for my house Gun. My model was The Mossburg 500 JIC model. My weapon came with a carry bag.
I had the same shotgun. I bought it from Gander Mountain. It was The Mossburg 500 JIC model. The JIC model is parkerized. My JIC also came with the carry bag. No heat shield tho. Witch kinda sucked.

Thanks, I liked the video & it was helpful. I have wanted this gun for some time. I finally brought it, with pistol grip & an adjustable rifle stock attached. It shoots great. With the stock, I can manage the recoil easily. For a shotgun like this & under $250, I'm very pleased.

I've got a 500 with forward grip, tactical adjustable pistol stock and 6 shot side saddle. I love it. 8 pellet for home defense and slugs for range practice.

A 500, 590, or 590A1 is among the toughest, most reliable pump shotguns out there, the very best in my and a lot of other folks’ opinions. Shotguns, properly loaded (most loads aren’t appropriate), are among the best home defense tools out there, the very best in my and a lot of other folks’ opinions. You’ll do VERY well if you choose any of them. I’d recommend the 18.5”, 7-shot 590A1, but the same configuration 500 (or even Maverick 88) is just as functional, nearly as tough, and absolutely as effective for considerably less money.
Learn about reduced-recoil light defensive buckshot loads for home defense, even look into buckshot mini-shells (in my opinion, the Aguila mini-buck load the most perfect home defense load there is) and the Mini-Clip 2.0 that lets them cycle in Mossbergs. Full-power buckshot, slugs, etc. are HUGE overkill for the purpose and are unpleasant to shoot as well as dangerous due to the risk of overpenetration. Some people say to use birdshot for defense, I STRONGLY disagree. It’s for birds and sporting clays, just leave it at that.
Unless you specifically need a very short, compact package, leave the full stock on it. It’ll point, aim, handle, and shoot WORLDS better. I have a couple pistol-grip-only shotguns, but they fill a specific role and aren’t the first choice under any circumstance.

Someone may have mentioned Hogue and Magpul foregrips. Big improvement over the stock one.

I got a mossberg 500 with a regular stock (no pistol grip) that stays ready to go downstairs in my house however I have a Winchester model 1300 “defender” w/pistol grip right next to my bed ready to go for home defense. I only fired it once and my wrist hurt afterwards from the recoil. I like having one with a stock and one with a pistol grip both ready to rock

What is the purpose not a heat shield on a shotgun? Are you wrapping your hand around the barrel? Nice shotgun overall though.

Did that come with a pistol grip?
I have a model 500 Mariner that came with the pistol grip option. I prefer the standard stock because I can tuck that under my right arm when shooting from the hip and squeeze the stock between my elbow and side for extra control. Shooting this way the gun is no longer (muzzle does not protrude any farther out) than having the pistol grip on it and shooting from the hip. Plus I still have the option of shoulder firing if needed. The pistol grip looks cool and all but for me its not near as practical as the standard stock. Only advantage I see for the pistol grip is shooting from a seated position like inside an automobile. Nice video by the way.

A home defense shotgun doesn't need a heatshield ... unless you are defending against 100 zombies. Not enough time for the barrel to cool down, but enough time to reload.

What's the laws with the pistol grip
For shotguns in the U.S., 18" barrel, 26" overall length. Grip type doesn't matter if those two requirements are met.

The only thing about the pistol grip is that you can not aim a pistol grip shotgun. You have to shoot from the hip.
