This is what i put in my listings----This shirt has not been washed and was in a storage locker for about 15 years. There might be a musty smell. We have aired the shirt out. We did not wash it because one, we didn't want to ruin any pictures or fade any colors and two, the laundry soap we use might cause an allergic reaction for some people so we thought it would be best to leave it to the buyer to wash it and air it out. We have checked all the elastic in this shirt.
I’ve never heard of the used clothing laundered statement either. I’ve been on ebay since 1996 or so. Always knew they needed to be laundered, but let’s face it, steaming is another form of sanitizing every bit as much as washing.

Ive been selling on Ebay since 2002, never seen this policy that it had to be stated. Always knew they had to be cleaned - just not that I had to state it.
Most of my used clothes listings mentioned "pre-owned but cleaned" in the listing descriptions. Several items had to be washed before being posted on sale. Some items needed a long pre-soaking before going in the wash. If they're in good shape, then I sell them.
Thank you so much for the info and tip on how to bulk edit. Here's another tip to sellers to avoid complaints: After washing, do not hang clothes up in an area where the clothes can absorb smoke from cooking or other substances. Do not hang clothes up near litter boxes. Also make sure clothes are 100% dry before packing into plastic bag or they can mold. No brainers, but even something clean can get smells after they're washed. 😮
We started selling used clothing on eBay a few years ago. That statement has been required since at least 2021. Side note, your audio was cutting out a lot toward the end of the video. Thanks for the heads up!
I didn’t know this and it seems to me like they would probably have to drop 90% of used clothing sellers because I don’t know anyone that has this statement!! I would like direct clarification from eBay on this. It’s crazy!
Due to me working in the housekeeping industry, when I do my eBay listings, I have a disclaimer that states “you should always wash any clothing used or new following manufactures tags due to possible allergies to any chemicals used during process making or soaps used by others” I have allergies to certain chemicals I am very aware that soaps and processing chemicals can cause reaction. But I wasn’t aware of rules that you had to have it in your listings that you clean them per eBay policy
What about Birkenstock, waxed tin cloth items, waxed jackets and or garments . Edit. ; some of the wax garment makers suggest hosing down with cold water and air drying before storing the garment after using it .
Thank you for this. I saw that statement when I started reselling in January but never saw any other listings have it so I didn't add it. I just went thru and did the bulk edit which was awesome learning tip. (I will just need to slowly go through and remove the statement from my non-clothes )
It was in the policy in 2009-2010. Same thing happened to a seller and I called eBay. They told me to add to new listings but said in general it's not a priority. Obviously in modern times, AI makes enforcement easier.
In reading the policy, I see that the statement must only say that the item has been properly cleaned. Ebay doesn't define what constitutes "properly cleaned"...not even a reference to manufacturers recommendations. So, my statement is going to say, "Used clothing has been properly cleaned."
Where did you read that? Im currently reading the ebay used clothing policy right now 6/27/24 and i do not see anything about having to included a statement. Anyone else seeing that? I do see the properly cleaning sentence but thats it. Nothing about a statement.
Just updated over 7k clothing items. I'm glad that I came across your video. We had no idea that this was required and have been selling on eBay since 2015. eBay would most likely come out of nowhere and take your listing down or perhaps even suspend your account.
We wash everything that comes in except for new inventory already. Selling dirty unsanitary items is a good way to create returns and negative feedback,
CAN YOU DO A VIDEO ON HOW TO BULK EDIT PRICES BY % or by dollar value please Last time I did this, it totally screwed up the listings and is there a set amount you can only do at a time thanks
Is steaming one of eBay‘s acceptable cleaning processes? And what if we sell material that is technically new but maybe pieces most people don’t want them washed and will do about the same type of “damage “as washing wood so how would we handle that situation?
I do wash everything. I dont know how people dont. Everything from thrift stores smells. I shop a lot of thrift stores. They ALL stink. I dont know how people dont wash, but i know some RUclipsrs dont. No stains is laughable. There goes Ebays clothing business if thats a requirement.
I heard Tech mention this policy a couple weeks ago and then shortly after it has been talked about in a couple Facebook groups. There's a lot of fear mongering, as happens on Facebook, IDK how true it is. Someone suggested that eBay might have a new AI tool to scan listings.
So I cannot remember who I heard it from but it was a RUclips reseller that made the comment that you have to put in there that the item has been cleaned per the manufacturer instructions so I went back and edited them all. This had to been almost 8 months ago and put this on all of my used clothing and shoe items and I truly do clean every single item because I’m kind of OCD about clothes coming into my home straight from thrift store or whatever. Item has been cleaned according to manufacture’s instructions.
Yeah, with it being required that doesn’t necessarily make sense because what about like leather jackets? You’re not gonna wash that vintage item that if it’s washed it shrinks silk and stuff like that.
Yeah, the policy has been exactly the same for years. Not a new thing at all. And since the policy doesn’t define what “properly cleaned” means you can use your discretion. My statement on every pre-owned listing states: Pre-owned clothing items are properly cleaned, washed, and/or steamed at high heat before listing.
@@RockstarFlipper disagree. It’s been written that way for years. I know because I’ve been including my statement for years as a result of the written policy.
I have always added my own cleaning statement in the condition area. Depending on the item, here are some of the descriptions I use; : "Item has been laundered as per platform standards." "Item has been recently dry cleaned"...... "Item has been hand washed and dried flat/ hung and air dried as cleaning tag instructions." ..... " Item has been laundered with Dryell dry cleaning home system" "Item has been cleaned and pre-treated for staining. Some staining has remained" For new with tags that are still in plastic bags, I do nothing, but if they have tags but not in plastic, I clip the tag to the fabric and air dry (no heat) to remove any dust. I use a plastic laundry clip and attach to the tag, so it doesn't get beat up from flopping around in the dryer which can bend the tag. Way more time, way less worry when I send an item out. If I use the more standard wording instead of being so specific, then this will be a time saver for me for sure.
Never. I was selling vintage Victoria Secret and other eclectic bedroom wardrobe. Slips hose and bras. To ad to this men were buying up my double digit bras used before I had them as New W Tags, had harder time selling. 😅
I would like eBay to require sellers to disclose where they have gotten the clothing since Thrift stores n o w saturate everything with Febreze which can be impossible to remove
Wow, I am lucky I don't have to change anything. 90% of my items are used clothing. I have stated in my description of my items that "all clothes are from a smoke-free environment and cleaned and ready to wear" since the pandemic.
I was trying to update & relist a pair of capri pants about a month ago probably & when I went to hit list it gave me an error about underwear not being allowed, which was SO WEIRD bc It was pants! I called EB for help bc it kept doing it & wouldn't let me list this item that had already been listed previously. I also already had "cleaned per EB standards" in the listing so that wasn't the issue. They put in a help ticket to IT to look into it & said they'd let me know when it was resolved. To this day still no response to the error. Yesterday I decided to try it again got same error, so I did process of elimination starting by removing the brand to see if that was why & then removing the word "pants" just leaving as capri it then let me list them. So this new flagging system they have definitely is glitchy on picking up words they think are panties. 🤦♀
HI Casey I thought I would let you know about the fact that Robert Graham is now allowing re-sellers of his clothings. I know you love him , as do I ..!!! there are like 8 shrts for sale right now, so I think its like really really a new thing.
The clothes are going to be wrinkled after they are washed. Does eBay policy require the clothes be ironed afterwards? I'd rather stop selling used clothes before I do any washing and ironing.
I am alergic to toxic laundry detergents. Everything scented!!! This is absolutely wrong. I only wear clothes washed in baking soda and vinegar. I'm sure sellers aren't going to do this. Ebays standards are not within my standards and I am sure sellers aren't going to "SPECIAL" wash clothing. Some vintage clothing has that vintage smell and no matter how much you wash they still have that old smell!
Did you know about the statement being required?

Has the requirement been removed since this video was posted, or am I viewing the wrong policy page? And thanks for the tutorial on bulk edit!
We sell license plates and they must include a statement they are expired 3 or more years. Ebay has been doing take downs on license plates for years.
That's a cool niche.
Interesting
I appreciate the heads up. Thank you.
Q: what if you bulk edited and it did the tiny font....how do you fix that in the bulk editor?
You can edit the font size, i just didn't do it because i wasn't thinking about it
It was in the policy in 2009-2010. Same thing happened to a seller and I called eBay. They told me to add to new listings but said in general it's not a priority. Obviously in modern times, AI makes enforcement easier.
Do you do free shipping with all your clothing items?
@@tanyahooks2070 pretty much every item I sell. Few exceptions
That’s what I thought. Do you have a vid about that?
In reading the policy, I see that the statement must only say that the item has been properly cleaned. Ebay doesn't define what constitutes "properly cleaned"...not even a reference to manufacturers recommendations. So, my statement is going to say, "Used clothing has been properly cleaned."
But ..did you clean everything, or did you add the statement only?
I have always washed/dryed anyways, but this is the first about leaving a statement.
Thanks for the info
Anytime!!
thanks for the info i changed everything
Where did you read that? Im currently reading the ebay used clothing policy right now 6/27/24 and i do not see anything about having to included a statement. Anyone else seeing that? I do see the properly cleaning sentence but thats it. Nothing about a statement.
I have had customers tell me not to wash the item as they are allergic to some detergents. Lose lose situation.
You have to follow ebays policies not your customers unfort
Didn’t know this, thanks for the heads up Casey!
Thanks Casey.....
Just updated over 7k clothing items. I'm glad that I came across your video. We had no idea that this was required and have been selling on eBay since 2015.
eBay would most likely come out of nowhere and take your listing down or perhaps even suspend your account.
But are you going to launder each and every item before sending it?
We wash everything that comes in except for new inventory already.
Selling dirty unsanitary items is a good way to create returns and negative feedback,
CAN YOU DO A VIDEO ON HOW TO BULK EDIT PRICES BY % or by dollar value please
Last time I did this, it totally screwed up the listings and is there a set amount you can only do at a time thanks
I have done that very video ruclips.net/video/0NyDmYEATz0/видео.html
I guess we will have to wait and see if a bunch of us get this warning. I steam almost everything to make sure it looks nice
Is there a way to filter out your active listings to just see your used items?
Of course. Use the filter button. New or used.
@@RockstarFlipper Can you help me find that? I am not seeing that option.
I heard Tech mention this policy a couple weeks ago and then shortly after it has been talked about in a couple Facebook groups. There's a lot of fear mongering, as happens on Facebook, IDK how true it is. Someone suggested that eBay might have a new AI tool to scan listings.
Thats probably whats happening
Thank you
very welcome
I can see this being a ad thig because say you do wash the items and the buyer ends up being allergic to soaps can result in issues I would think.
Appears the statement popped uop a year or so ago
Do you need to have an ebay store to bulk edit? I can't find the bulk edit tool anywhere.
Thanks I am going to up date my clothing
Yeah, with it being required that doesn’t necessarily make sense because what about like leather jackets? You’re not gonna wash that vintage item that if it’s washed it shrinks silk and stuff like that.
Does thie include hats?
I would assume so
Reading the policy on the Australian ebay site, it was updated December 18 2023.
Thanks Casey. Side note, I think your old microphone is better, I’m hearing static randomly through the video.
Yeah when i Clip it on it gets some, when i hold it, it doesnt.. im working on it
Yeah, the policy has been exactly the same for years. Not a new thing at all. And since the policy doesn’t define what “properly cleaned” means you can use your discretion. My statement on every pre-owned listing states: Pre-owned clothing items are properly cleaned, washed, and/or steamed at high heat before listing.
The policy has been this way... but requiring the statement started like 6-9 months ago
@@RockstarFlipper disagree. It’s been written that way for years. I know because I’ve been including my statement for years as a result of the written policy.
I knew about adding the statement about items have been cleaned per eBay’s policy. But I don’t have it in my listings. Probably need to do that.
I've never made a statement as cleaned, but I wash all used clothing regardless if the person I bought from already did.
If I use the more standard wording instead of being so specific, then this will be a time saver for me for sure.
wow thats crazy-- but I have that in all my listings ... "steamed before shipped" ....
Am i expected to wash used baseball caps?
Yes. I have these frames you put them in and then you air dry them. They come out perfect.
Never. I was selling vintage Victoria Secret and other eclectic bedroom wardrobe. Slips hose and bras. To ad to this men were buying up my double digit bras used before I had them as New W Tags, had harder time selling. 😅
I’m pretty most ppl would clean used clothes they got off eBay themselves.
I hope so
I would like eBay to require sellers to disclose where they have gotten the clothing since Thrift stores n o w saturate everything with Febreze which can be impossible to remove
Thank you, just fixed it. What a relief 😮
You don't need to do anything. This youtuber is just trying to get clicks.
HI Casey I thought I would let you know about the fact that Robert Graham is now allowing re-sellers of his clothings. I know you love him , as do I ..!!! there are like 8 shrts for sale right now, so I think its like really really a new thing.
I appreciate this info!!
The clothes are going to be wrinkled after they are washed. Does eBay policy require the clothes be ironed afterwards? I'd rather stop selling used clothes before I do any washing and ironing.
It does not require that but you do have a point in some cases, proceed as you were i guess
Are shoes included ss used clothes?
