    I'm here for the beauty products, and ordinarily fashion content bores me to tears, but yours is really different. You're not all "heeeeeere's my latest haul from Amazon!!" You talk about the outfits in great detail, the colors, the effect you were going for, and the clothes themselves are interesting / vintage, it's all very .... Hannah? So, carry on, and thanks.

    I'd be really interested in a video all about your relationship to "doing the most" and fashion and makeup during the pandemic. My relationship to clothing and makeup was really affected by it because I ended up being stranded with just a suitcase in another country (was visiting my partner who lived abroad when it hit and didn't feel safe traveling home) so I had veeery limited clothes and almost no makeup. That experience kind of changed my whole relationship to my clothes and makeup and I'm just so curious how other people's relationships to those things have changed as well!

    • @anotherlemontree
      @anotherlemontree 3 года назад +4

      Oh wow, that sounds intense. Did you go through a whole journey of missing things and then settling into what you had with you? Or a different trajectory? It might seem like a small thing to focus on in the grand scheme of things, but our identities are so tied up with our belongings that I can imagine the experience being transformative, or at least elucidating.

    • @intentionallymadi1843
      @intentionallymadi1843 3 года назад +10

      @@anotherlemontree There were so many cycles of missing things and feeling like part of my identity was also missing because of that, and then learning how to be content with less and realising just how fixating on what I owned (and didn't have access to!) was also acting as a placeholder for other emotions - being homesick, fear and uncertainty about the world. It was easier to focus in on not having my stuff than those bigger questions. And it got me thinking about what I really need in order to be content and what values possessions do play in my life. And then when I was reunited with my stuff, I was totally overwhelmed by it and did the entire KonMari method and ended up donating about 1/3 of it! But it was such a valuable exercise to see what I really missed and what I actually kind of forgot about over time. Kind of an extreme way to have those realisations though 😅

    I am really loving all the fashion content. I also like how you discuss clothing in a way that is so analytical and makes me ask why I like certain things and how I feel in them and how they fit me vs. someone else. A lot of fashion content is "Here is a blouse. I like it. You should too. Go buy this exact blouse."

    I have to admit that hearing you speak about walking to work, passing people on the street, going to lunch or a party made me start to cry. I'm an introvert anyway, so maybe COVID hasn't touched me as much as someone who goes out a lot or has a large circle of friends, but damn if hearing Tales of Our Lives 7 Months Ago didn't make me long to "pass people on the street or go to lunch." I miss just seeing people as much as I used to. (Going to a store once or twice a month isn't the same, nor are the multitudes of Zoom conferences.)

    I'm catching up on videos (dang Hurricane Sally) "a receptacle for the doing of more" 😍 gosh I've missed you! The way you speak is absolutely poetry. Love the idea of doing the most... I've stepped up my middle school teacher game this school year by matching my mask to my outfit to my eye makeup, and it feels like the most for sure (pleased to report that the kids have noticed)

    Sadie's little face in her space-bubble cat carrier, these beautiful monochromatic moments, *that* tracksuit with *that* tiger print - I love it all! 💞
    Seeing you throwback to the start of the pandemic and the beginning of the closure of your business was unexpectedly emotional. I welled up a little! Change, amiright?
    I'd be so curious to watch a new version of this experiment, if you feel like doing it. I'm also on tenterhooks for a "How it's been between fashion/makeup and me under quarantine" video - as always, can't wait to hear your thoughts. We've all lived through so much this year.
    Hope you all are settling in well. Hugs and squeezes to Sadie, who doesn't even know I adore her.

    It’s crazy to think about that time right before lockdown. I remember exactly what I was wearing the last time I worked a full day at my old job. It was a Temperley London yellow and black check print sweater dress I had selected from my Rent the Runway membership. I think I even have a selfie from that day. Also I have the same cat backpack for my cat Finn and he hates it too!

    Yes this is a fashion video; yes it’s so much fun seeing you get excited about the amazing pieces you own; but above those things how open you are to be vulnerable in this video... that’s what makes this amazing. So thank you Hanna for letting us KNOW you. Fashion and make up do reflect our inner universe and this was so enlightening. Loved seeing you reflect on what was a scary and frightening time to everyone who is a well adjusted empathetic being.
    Edited: I just thought about how the “performing for others” element plays on our daily choices about makeup and fashion. As feminists we know this is such an interesting discussion and I think this idea of “doing the most” complicates the fact that what we wear it’s not for the male gaze... but for us god damn it!

    For me life during the pandemic is many consecutive days spent inside at home but it has compelled me to do the most with fashion and makeup, not less. I think it’s because I needed a ritual to transition into a mental space for work so getting dressed and doing my makeup helps me with that even if no other person sees it. Because I’m free from others opinions, (supportive, judgmental or otherwise), I’ve taken more creative risks which has been fun and brings a sense of levity and playfulness to otherwise depressing times. Also since I am in academia, which is as you said in another video is a space that highly values masculinity, I am relishing in the freedom to “do the most” and play around with the high femme part of me without the usual social repercussions (I.e, not be taken seriously, disrespected, etc). As always your content does the most for me!

    I worked at Anthropologie for most of university and I think the one part of that job I miss is the excuse (and explicit encouragement) to do the most on a daily basis. The contrast between that phase of my life and this current one is stark. I have a potential job prospect I should know about soon and the idea of having somewhere to go where I can have a reason to at least do more, if not the most, is very exciting to me.

      Ah. I'm glad I looked for this comment before posting something to this effect myself. Didn't want to batter the deceased equine. The thing to remember is that "ch" is basically always a hard K sound in Italian (the one that comes up most often in my presence, and which hurts my fragile little soul is "bruschetta" because I have a tiny internal tantrum every time someone says broo-shedda instead of broo-sketta. Because I'm a pedantic snowflake sometimes).

    These outfits are giving me life! I am about to start an office job after being laid off and home since March and I am so excited out together outfits again (and coordinate then with a complimenting mask.)😂 It's the little things these days.
    Also, if I ever have a reason to visit Ann Arbor again, you should make drive to visit Detroit! Lots of vintage shops that are managing to survive, so many indie fashion brands have been emerging, and sooooo many thrift stores! 😁

    This is so interesting. I have been working remotely for years, and have gotten in the habit of getting dressed "up" every day (relatively, by that I usually mean skinny jeans a top and a blazer). I find that it is so much nicer to work when I feel like I'm getting up and ready.

    I work at a kindergarten in Japan, and my role consists of teaching English and a variety of other odd jobs (I.e. doing whatever is necessary in the moment), so I end up wearing very casual things. A lot of aprons and pinafore, sweatpants, shorts and t-shirts. But I also teach English to adults a few times a week and for those few glorious hours I dress to the nines. I just have to.

    I loved this series when you did it and would love to see it again, be it on IG or here or however you prefer. To be honest, being at home has really affected the energy and motivation I have to express myself through style/fashion. I'm still wearing makeup, and I actually feel more freedom to be creative with it whenever I want instead of just on my days off, because... well, now everything is a "day off". But when it comes to clothes, I've been choosing comfort over everything else and sometimes it makes me feel... bad. I don't think that "doing the *least*" is doing anything to help my depression, and while I don't foresee myself doing the most, I do wish I could find a happy medium that made me feel a bit better when I look at myself in the mirror, and hopefully, make me feel good enough to become a little more productive and get out of this funk. I'd love to see you experiment with how to "do the most" in the circumstances that we're in.

    Hannah, you are soooo you in this video. Your makeup is so impeccable, your hair and your outfit so beautiful, and you are glowing. Isn't it funny how we have come to know you in such a special way as you've shared your life with us. This "doing the best'' is a little capsule in time in which you look back fondly and a little nostalgic about your time in downtown LA where you lived and worked and created your beautiful dance wear line. I believe God had you do this at that particular time so you could chronical the time before this transition in which your life changed. Now you are beginning a new journey. I think you should do this again. Maybe go back to those outfits and "fix" those mistakes in which you didn't feel like were the best. I loved the whimsical dress and sweater set where you wore your tennis shoes. Little Sadie is classic in her backpack. Wouldn't you love to know what she is thinking as you snap your pictures in front of that mirror?

    Outfit #3 is my favorite. I have always struggled to wear sneakers with a dress, but you totally pulled it off. I think skirt length is key. Either above or below the knee but at the knee it looks like a lady walking to her office job in tennis shoes with her pumps in her handbag.

    When I wear outfits like day 4 (long dress plus booties), I feel like there is an awkward section of leg exposed that can only be mitigated by tights. I dont know if its a result of pale legs or incongruencies in proportion/weather appropriateness (similar to wearing uggs with shorts). If someone knows how to pull it off without tights, please share your wisdom.

    • @HannahLouisePoston
      @HannahLouisePoston  3 года назад +7

      I personally really love wearing "weather incongruent" things (like a chunky sweater with shorts, or a dress and boots without tights). There's a kind of silliness or edginess about it that appeals to me. It's one of the things that I love about living in LA, this is the only climate I've lived in that it really makes sense for. If it's a proportions thing specific to dresses and boots, then I think a different height of shoe, or a different shoe, is sometimes the answer? That would probably have fixed my day 4 outfit. But re: incongruence, I say, just rock it :)

    Hi Hannah, I am the discreet half of casuallygrey on Instagram who styles my lovely mum and set the pictures. I hope you don't mind me sharing my opinion about the outfit you weren't very happy with.
    First off all, I love your beige and white ensemble. I like the stripped dress as well, but I would take off the headband and do a high bun with some big earrings, or a statement necklace. Topped up with coloured tights (like pink, blue, green or anything that goes with red), your red handbag and a dark brown or black jacket, you would look even more amazing!

    Hey Hannah! Do you feel that the cat backpack is properly ventilated, is Sadie comfortable in it? I got one for my Lucy but she would get over heated very quickly.. 😿 I’m thinking of getting a different one.

    • @HannahLouisePoston
      @HannahLouisePoston  3 года назад +2

      Sadie dislikes being in any carrier, but I don't think her annoyance with this one is heat or air related. The sides or ours are all mesh so there's plenty of air flow. I'm sorry that happened with yours!

    • @anotherlemontree
      @anotherlemontree 3 года назад +1

      Just weighing in to say that my cats overheat in their carriers purely out of stress. Both of their carriers are very well ventilated with mesh panels on at least three sides. But every time I take them out, they're sweaty, shedding fur like no one's business, and one of them even pants like a dog. It's heartbreaking, but if you think about how our bodies respond to stress, it makes sense - our heart rate rises, we sweat, get hot and flustered. I think it's similar for them. So I do my best to reduce the stress potential of the experience by spraying Feliway (a reassuring cat pheromone spray) on the carriers 30min before using them, placing a blanket with a reassuring smell over at least part of the carrier so there's a darker, safer-feeling space for thee cat to back into, and avoiding busy roads to the best of my ability. I also sing softly while I walk so they can hear me over the bustle of traffic, etc. though I truly have no idea whether or not that works. Sorry for the epic essay! Hope some of this is remotely helpful!

      anotherlemontree wow thank you for these tips! I’ll give these a try. Driving alone from FL to DC due to Covid I had to bring her in the back pack whenever we stopped to eat or rest. It was always the backpack that stressed her out (vs the larger dog kennel I set up for her). You make a fair point on the body’s response to stress. 😸
