      Tactical moves and slight blocking you can see from all players. Diego Elias foot blocking in the semis was very obvious and Faraq looked angrily at the referee, but he got along with it sensing that Diego was very tired and couldn't hold up the game. In this final Faraq got frustrated because Asal kept up the pressure and punished him from his weak shots. He just had a bad day at the office. Stop speculating, Asal was a deserved winner and brings unique squash to the game.

    This guy has perfected and masked the skill of decepting referees. He is doing these little dirty things of moving away just in the nick of time or restricting the opponent's movement. All these put the opponent off, or does not allow opponent to move fast enough to shots. At this level, even a split second will disadvantage the opponent. The last shot says it all. Instead of moving backwards, the perpetrator moves slightly forward, which prevented Faraq from moving diagonally to the ball, hence not being able to reach the ball. It's sad.

    Can't tell from the highlights, which mostly look clean. But Asal must have done a lot of borderline movement stuff to work Farag up like that. Asal is so talented, but it makes the sport much worse when the winner brings out the worse in competitors. It forces them to play a game that is antithetical to squash. We are supposed to collaborate in letting an opponent get to the ball. Asal forces players to either be dangerous in competing for space or get the officials involved. Not how it's supposed to be.

    I clearly understand Farag's frustration. I haven’t seen the rest of the match, but the last point alone explains it, as it's clear that Asal always looks for some interference in the center with Farag. Asal stands out for his precision and power, but unfortunately, I clearly see that he also stands out for seeking the other player to interfere just enough. If this continues to be allowed, squash will start to resemble the worst aspects of football, where it’s not just about playing the ball but also about obstructing the opponent. And I’m sorry, but squash is a more dignified sport than that.

    The tension lies in the fact that, in squash, when you're playing the ball, you have the right to take a reasonable swing. However, after completing your shot, the other player is entitled to direct access to the ball, meaning the player who just finished their shot should clear the way for the incoming player. In the final point, you can see that Asal makes no attempt to clear a path for Farag. In fact, he drifts into Farag's path and, at no point, adjusts his movement to make it easier for Farag to reach the ball.
    This reflects the current state of squash, where the spirit of the game is weakened. Players don't play purely for the love of the game or out of respect and compassion for their opponent. They're willing to sacrifice camaraderie, seeing their opponent less as a fellow player and more as an obstacle to winning. Their fixation on victory leads them to neglect giving their opponent a fair opportunity. This creates tension, especially in professional sports, where the desire to win is so strong that having compassion is seen as reducing one's chances of success. As a result, players may feign ignorance, claiming they didn’t see their opponent or were simply moving to the tee.
    The rules should emphasize that after completing a shot, a player's next responsibility is to actively locate their opponent and clear the way for them. While this may already be part of the rules, it's challenging because, when hitting the ball, you're focused on it and may not always know where your opponent is. This allows players to justify their actions by saying they were moving to the tee, which is standard practice. But it's not enough to just move toward the tee and risk colliding with the other player. There should be an active effort to sense their position and give them access. That is the true spirit of the game.
    I don't believe Asal fully embodies this spirit. He played extremely well and deserved to win based on his performance, but he could do more to represent the sport in a better light.
    Also, it's difficult because after you've played your shot, you'll generally want to watch your own ball as it's going along. In squash, you're often taught to keep watching the ball all the time, but there should be a rule, in a sense, that after you've played your shot, you should first locate your opponent, and then you can continue watching the ball.
    Asal, for example, is so in the zone that he's just watching the ball and moving back to the tee. You never really see the intention or the effort to look for the opponent to make space. Or maybe he does do it sometimes, but he also sometimes doesn't.
    A referee's decision on how strict they are with lets and strokes should also be based not only on whether there was interference but on how much effort the clearing player is making to locate their opponent and make room. So, the rules should emphasize more clearly that there needs to be a deliberate effort from the clearing player to actively look for their opponent and clear the way.

    Farag recovered well from his long Semi-Final. A very tough Final by the looks of it. Asal must have played really well to win.
    Asal's racket setup and overall preparation over the past two tournaments seems to be very effective. When he goes in short or for a kill shot he looks confident and not worried at all even if its not a clean finish. The ball seems to be bouncing and landing more in his favor than you would generally expect, even when he doesn't seem to execute well.
    Currently he seems to be able to take a swing at the ball much more freely. That high volley backhand straight knick he hit is one you do not often see.
    With Asal exerting more pressure with his shots, any blocking from his side if it happens may become even more difficult for referees to notice.
    If Farag figures out how Asal is executing so well in his attacks and is able make the adjustment in his own timing and racket setup to attack better then it will get very interesting.

    For the last shot of the whole match, which Asal repeatedly using this little cheat movement which u can see it clearly while playing the video in 0.5 speed , when he hit the straight kill , right at the same time that the ball off from his racket , his left foot already stepping directly very close to the line of farag, which obviously restricted the opponent movement

      It looks like Asal also kicked Farag's heel when Asal finishes his movement after hitting the ball. And also maybe he touched him also with his left hand? It would be better to see it from another angle.

      @PaulSamTube Месяц назад

      I'm not so sure, every coach teaches you to play and recover position as a single movement. This is what Asal did here... it was not a block it was a natural movement. I see some super clean payers adapt this movement if they know their opponent is that close to them and Asal didn't. I'm not convinced the last point is anywhere near as clear as everyone is making out. El Shorbagy used to drive me mad with his wider than required stance but I don't see Asal being anywhere near as bad IMHO.

His opponents spend more time on the floor than in any other match, how long is it going to be before he permanently injures someone and ends their career. Why arent the authorities doing something about it, its soooo blatant. To me, he is one of the legends of this generation, if not of all times. What became obvious is how one sided the PSA commentators as well as some crowds againt Asal all the times! • @psyrendrifter
    @psyrendrifter Месяц назад +1

    Everyone says asal is moving dirty or not dirty but there’s not really much concrete reasoning as to why it’s dirty or not.
    The last point is clearly a blocking movement from asal.
    He takes a step out then when he recovers instead of keeping his full body angled diagonally to allow access to the ball while recovering to the T, you can see he clearly squares his lower body to the front wall by taking a step with his right foot towards the front instead of towards his left foot and look very closely at how his right knee moves forward into farag’s line slightly. It is slight, and taken individually it is hard to punish. But take a look at all his matches, its clearly a pattern.
    Its hard to punish because its so slight and he is playing from the opponent’s loose shot i.e. he usually does this when the opponent is suppose to be moving around him and they do move around him he just steps out slightly to increase the contact and finish them off. You can call it smart and it may be within the rules but its definitely unsportsmanlike that is for certain.
    If its not intentional, its a no let because it happens, he’s a big guy. But taken as whole considering how he moves so well in other situations even when under huge pressure you clearly know he has great command of his movements, these slight moves are not accidental and have to be punished.

    • @psyrendrifter
      @psyrendrifter Месяц назад +1

      Look at match point against coll too in the final, exact same thing. Slight knee forward increasing contact. Any time that it gets crucial you will very likely see that knee/hip check. And on normal points almost nothing.
