Back in the 1970-1980 era when I gigged five night a week with a Rhodes, I was repairing broken tines, tuning tines that drifted out of tune, replacing mashed hammer tips, replacing broken hammers probably two to three nights a week. People who can afford them need to realize they are high maintenance instruments if played three-four hours a day.
Not sure many keyboard freaks would agree with your assessment that a Rhodes is "high maintenance". Personally I think that's one of their finest qualities is the low maintenance. Wurlis, however, are a whole other animal.
I was a keyboard technician for 36 years after my career as a pianist. I rebuilt many Rhodes. Most were in horrible condition. Probably because their owners did not learn how to keep them up to working condition. As I said, gigging four and five nights a week, and pounding on them, I was constantly working on mine. But then my whole career as a keyboard tech was only possible because every 88 note weighted action instrument broke often. The actions just did not hold up to the pounding a pianist gives them. And the first generations of new weighted actions all had weakness that the manufacturers had to eventually fix.
In the 1970s owned 5 stage mk1 and 2s and giged 5 to 7 nights a week. Lots of clubs back and I was in 7 to 9 piece showbands. Case built like a tank, inside like well forgetaboutit. Three or 4 tnes a week. Replace them on a break. No regulating or voicing. Mine all sounded like s**t. Real muddy. Didn't bother getting a decent amp. With bands that size and big crowds people didn't seem to care and I was always broke anyway. When my wife sometimes came she'd tell me couldn't tell me from the guitarist on the other side of the stage. I have been teaching out of my studio since the 80's full time. Last gig I did was in 84. I'm thinking of that part of the business up. Bill
I love the sound of the Rhodes. My grandfather was in a jazz band and as a young child in the late 70's my mom would take me to watch him play. Every time I hear the Rhodes I think of my grandfather and smile. Lovely jams my man!
@@rhodesmusic You're welcome. You've done such a tremendous job. Taking the mark i as base design and putting it on steroid with everything in one package is win on many levels.
Outstanding performance ! This instrument is Art even before making sound... and then, when in good hands like these, it's a dream come true. That would be the instrument of a lifetime.... maybe one day ;-)
Superb playing as always Mark! I would love this piano as it sounds fantastic, along with the chosen parts sourced from the best in the business! You'll be hearing from me soon to place an order, asap ❤
You gota just love that sound sadly out of my price range I will have to make do with My Korg Kronos 88key piano touch workstation and Yamaha Montage 6 Synth
I think the competition is still on. I'm lazy and still haven't written a track. I think the spoken vocal rap thingy in the video isn't my bag. I'd wa t to chop it but you can't do that as it wouldn't work with the video.
It is actually very fairly priced if you think about it. The people at Rhodes make up a small operation of dedicated craftspeople & engineers working hard to create this modern mk8 and bring it to the world without large scale factories and cheap OEM parts. Like all businesses, they have overheads and must provide livelihoods for everyone involved. Paying for one of these beauties helps them to keep making them and developing the brand.
Twelve grand for something that I can reproduce accurately enough on a $100 keyboard? No thanks! And who is making music with these in 2022? This is an old sound that has very limited applications. But hey, guess there are still enough people left with money out there to waste.
Cheaper options don't invalidate the existence of higher end products. It's like a Nissan vs a Lamborghini both get you from point A to B, but people are willing to pay a premium for quality craftsmanship and a luxury experience. Financially this is out of reach for a majority of the market especially they way the global economy is looking, however their stated goal was to create the best version of the Rhodes not the most accessible. That's why things like Keyscape and stage pianos exist.
This is hilarious. One of the most beautiful sounding instruments of all time and used ALL THE FUCKING time (real or emulation) in modern music, jazz, worship music, neo soul…I could go on 😂

That's why mine would just be a display peice and I'd make a kustom clone

Holy smokes! As a Mark I owner, this is the best sounding Rhodes i've ever heard. Salivating...
Thank you for the kind comment!

Yes absolutely 💯%
I should hope so
@@tylerthompson1842 It helps that you have a pianist like Dan playing it. I love his touch!
It's always a privilege to watch a master at work, especially on a legendary brand of instrument. Bravo!
simply the best sound on the entire world! period!
Quel son magnifique ! J’adooore. Merci
Definitely gonna need this masterpiece for my Acid Jazz improvisations.
I can do acid funk jazz soul
GREAT PLAYING! THIS INSTRUMENT is just calling out to me!

Great jam! That distortion isn’t my favorite sound for overdrive, but to each their own
Just lovvvvvely to watch/hear, @Dan Goldman!! 😊🙌🏻❤... C'mon, many more please ;-)
Big luv from Queesntown, NZ.

This is 10k? I find the current montage more than adequate for My needs
This sounds like a sampler.
Plugs need to be on the left! I think many keyboard players started as pianists, and we're just used to having our right side face the audience
The main outputs are on the left of the MK8. The right side is USB, MIDI and expression pedals.
Well at least you got some of the i/o on the desired side! 😁
Awesome but that overly bright plasticky tine sound at 1.37 is ruining things. Can the mk8 ordered with warmer sounding tines?
お願いです!
日本でも売って下さい。
Dogfooding is the best kind of marketing.
Amazing but 10 grand 😢
Pleeease price it down 😫

How much is a nice upright piano or a new USA Gibson guitar? It's an instrument that will outlive me. I'll get one at some point.
Once you get past the dude's cheesy face pulling and equally cheesy riffs (perfect.for the demo though) - this sounds very cool. Welcome back Rhodes 😊
this is very funny 😂
Sorry, doesnt have the character of the originals. Leans more towards a clean digital sound to my ears which can be achieved on a sample instrument
This ish is cold. You trippin.

Lmfao an old sound. Like piano, and guitar, and everything else that's far more ancient than electric piano? Ridiculous comment
Beautiful!

Sound amazing
