Lover was actually a really good album, she just picked the worst possible songs for the singles. Death by a thousand cuts, Cornelia street, Miss Americana and the heartbreak prince, paper rings are some of her best songs
Back in 2014 I remember a meme that said. "Maybe Taylor Swift should write a song called Maybe I'm the Problem." Just because people didn't like her. no she actually writes that song and everyone is mad that she did. I find it funny honestly. Never been a deep Taylor fan and having this outside perspective makes you realize some people really are just angry because it's their favourite past time.
it's ironic because people have been saying that all this time when she DID release a song touching on that topic - back to december is her apologising and acknowledging that she was the reason for the relationship ending and that she regrets what she did to her lover.
I don't feel like Anti-hero makes, or is even supposed to make, you feel sorry for Taylor. For me it gives courage to say to people that here I am with all of my glory, imperfections, mistakes and sadness. No one is perfect and we are all our worst enemies and no one can hurt us like we hurt ourselves. It is about getting power and narrative back from negative selftalk and loving ourselves, not regardless of our flaws, but with them.
@@suoutubez19 I think her self-pity carries purpose in the song, because it is one part of journey to accepting yourself. It is one of flaws I mentioned.
@@suoutubez19 I don't think she's pitying herself in the song. She's acknowledging how her own flaws make life harder for her rather than external sources. The song has more of a complacent tone than a self-pitying one, she's accepted her flaws and their role in her life rather than pitying herself. I can fully relate to it and I think everyone can. There isn't anyone who doesn't have flaws they can't fully overcome because they're ingrained into their personality.
anti-hero and blank space are her smartest singles imo. they define her as a celebrity figure / "product" the best. lwymmd would be as well if the sound production on it was done differently. reputation is a thousand times better live.
I love the sound production for LWYMMD, it's striking, unique, and certainly iconic in her discography! For me, it's still one of her best presented singles. I loved picking up on the nuances throughout the song like the chopped-up ambulance sirens, the rattlesnake-inspired sound in the chorus, and electroclash influences.

Your insight into musical artists is awesome. Just as good as other music critics! I agree with you that Anti-Hero is her best lead single to date. So i intitally strongly disliked Midnights because of its lack of bops but when you look at the album as a whole its a seriously amazing BREAK-UP album about a dying or dead relationship. In terms of Anti-Hero i also see it being related in that Taylor the entertainer always takes center stage over Taylor herself both in her public and private life and that includes her relationship with Joe.

I remember way back in the 2010’s, everyone was making jokes online saying she should write a song called ‘maybe I’m the problem’. I remember seeing that everywhere. So not only is she brilliant for using that actual concept in her song (this reclaiming the narrative) but I also feel that ironically this is some of her most personal storytelling. She has never delved into the depression or self-loathing before, but it is clear on previous albums. I agree with you on many points in this video, but I also think the blatantly honest lyricism was something she needed in order to heal. Also, can we just take a moment to acknowledge the daughter in-law is wearing one of the most iconic dresses from her Fearless tour? Interesting.
After her masterpiece “All Too Well”, “Anti-Hero” is a song that evoked strong emotions in me. To me, those 2 songs are among her best songs ever. If judging albums by lyrics, Red has the best written songs (including the vault songs).
I was shocked by how blunt and confessional all of "Midnights" is. It's a side of herself that she'd never released songs about--her harshest judgment of herself, her career, and her place in the world. I think it's obvious that the whole "it's me reminiscing about 13 sleepless nights of my past" thing was actually a false introduction to the era, as most of the songs are clearly written about recent events. That being said, I don't blame her. She's never put herself on the spot like this before and I bet it must be terrifying. I'm excited to see where she goes from here. I love that she's turning inwards and also exploring her idea of "the life she gave away" and her celebrity world vs. the regular world, I find it fascinating, poetic, and somewhat tragic
Hm, I disagree with you saying that the " reminiscing about 13 sleepless nights" thing is a false introduction. To use some examples 1. Lavender Haze is about her relationship with Joe Alwyn, and how she has always protected it from the media 2. In the very next song, Maroon, she talks about a breakup. With who, we don't know(although some have their theories), but its about a break up for sure when you look at the lyrics,"I wake with your memory over me" 3. Snow on the Beach talks about the feeling of falling for someone, and realising they're falling for you all the same; it's a feeling as surreal as seeing snow....at the beach!? This can't be a recent song because Joe and her started dating 6 years ago, and during the release of the album, they were still thought to be together. And ever since then she hasn't been in another relationship 4. In Midnight Rain, she talks about breaking up with an ex because they wanted different things in life 5. Mastermind talks about her carefully orchestrating every step of the way that lead to her being in a relationship with Joe.... I could go on but this comment is already super long haha
I think that this album suggests that she is aware there are things she needs to change but there is a lot at stake. Her story is almost stereotypical in a sense that at the peak of her career she is likely at her lowest behind the close doors. There is a song called 'Dear reader' which talks about that. I also noticed another beautiful piece of work which is on the album of another artist, The National (how sneaky, eh?) . The song is called The Alcott and is themed around reconnecting with a loved one. Well, sometimes you don't realise what you had until you lose it.
Anti-Hero is by far her best lead single, especially from her pop records. Midnights may also be up there with Speak Now and folklore as her best albums.
they're definitely good songs but i don't think they'd work as singles. the point of singles is for them to be catchy, they need to get attention and keep it to promote the album. it isn't just for fans but literally to bring in fans. anti hero was the only one that made sense as a lead. ❤
I think something important to note is that until Lover, Taylor was still under her original contract with Big Machine Records. The contract that pre-famous Taylor Swift signed. So you have to factor in that she most likely had very little control over her CD roll outs and single selection, and has recently opened up about having to cut songs or change singles (EG: “Cruel Summer” “All Too Well”) due to pressure from the label. I think starting with Folklore she just finally had full control over how her music is rolled out.
Taylor definitely solidified herself as goated as Kanye West & The Weeknd. I'd say these 3 are the "big 3 artists" like how back then, there was Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, & of course Stevie Wonder. You can't dent greatness & talent. They all have talents in their own different unique ways.
Very Honest opinion. Midnights as an album is kinda meh but there are few songs on the album that are masterpieces. it has some skips but its good so i love how shes breaking new records with it
The first time I heard this song I was not into it. It’s not her easiest song to digest mainly because of the image I had in my mind about her. The radio was playing it heavily and I started to like the melody but then I paid attention to the lyrics and I agree that it’s probably her most honest single. Brilliant too.
@@Mangoxmoon I think it's because the lockdowns let her decompress and just write what she wanted to, going deeper into her songwriting core than she had in previous songwriting sessions. anti-hero was cute, but my favorite songs from ‘midnights’ are you’re on your own, kid & mastermind, both of them should’ve been the bigger singles from the record.
I am not her fan and all her songs sound the same to me. But what I appreciate about her is that she writes her own material. This is a rare talent among popular artists today. Therefore, she totally deserves all her accolades and success.
Saying that her music always sounds the same is crazy because she literally won the highest grammy awards (Album of the Year, btw) 3 times in 3 different decades, and 3 different genres.
I genuinely hope Taylor is okay right now. Anti-Hero showed that she has many insecurities, which the public tends to forget. I'm sure a lot of celebrities feel the same way. Please, be respectful. They're just as human as we are. Money and fame don't change that.
I think she is like Avril Lagvine… they don’t know how to stop dating or being alone for a time to Heal. And yes, am not a hard fan but i like Anti-hero and Karma? Wow i Watched the mv yesterday and i love it too
I feel like Anti Hero is TS throwing shade at JA and his family. "...I'm the problem / it's me/ At tea time / everybody agrees". Like she felt they were ganging up on her when in reality they were saying "Normal life is not so bad." Just my take, or one of them, anyway.
Lover has such amazing songs, Untill this day False God is one of her best creations, IDK what on earth made her think should be in that album let alone be a lead single
Folklore and everymore singles are the best, as those are her best albums, not sure why you totally skipped them hayhayayaywa. As soon as she started to pick singles based on what she found were the best songs, as oposed to what ber label thought was going to have the broadedt appeal, everything changed for me. Singles off of Red, 1989, reputation and Lover are mostly the worst songs on each of this albums, it's always like, 3 of the worst songs she's ever written that don't represent the album at all and one good song that actually tells you something about what the rest of the album sounds like.
Midnights was great but shes so chart desperate. anti hero's multiple weeks on no.1 with 5+ weeks is so fraudulent and desperate. Now that Karma is rising she released a remix with ice spice whos probably the most noticable and popular artists in 2023. Love Taylor but her chart desperation needs to be adressed
that’s one of the smartest things she did imo, which made the song stay at the top for 8 weeks. She knows how to market herself and it worked, what’s the problem? People were still invested. She’s still in the top 10, why wouldn’t an artist market themselves? Make it make sense.
I don’t see what’s wrong with wanting to be on the charts, not yall shaming artists for doing the thing they should be doing like- what tf do you even mean lmaooooo Honestly y’all just need something to hate on and be pressed about
Anti hero is her best single? Argueably, yes Best song on Midnights? it comes second to You're On Your Own kid, but that song is less catchy to be on the radio
She's a rare example of a singer with an average voice and musically and melodically limited songs that is able to connect to its public in such a great way. That's the secret of her popularity. Let's admit her music as such is quite lame.
she does in general. she's got wrapped up in this matt healy situation but we still don't know all the facts. currently the only thing to criticise is the fact that it looks ignorant on her side. but for how long she's had a career and for how much drama the media and public have tried to stir she's surprisingly quiet and unproblematic. any issues she's been involved in have mainly been not her fault or small especially when you look at other artists. you can tell she's always just been focused on making music and trying her best to balance everything. you can see her growth. i truly don't understand the need people have to analyse and villianise her. she's just a person. anti hero is so sad. knowing all her fears and insecurities. how it's been beaten into her that because she dared to live her life she's some evil mastermind.
Okay so she’s a teenager for being clever ? .. if you listened to her other songs you wouldn’t even know the definition to majority of the words of them
But it's not verbose and meaningless, eh? I think I know which line you are referring to... it definitely adds something to the songs in my humble opinion. 😅
i get what it means for taylor and i think its one of her most personal songs but this is one of my least fave songs by her. the it's me, hi, i'm the problem is so cringy and millenial, like she's trying to hard to be relatable
It brings me back to the memes where people said constantly "taylor goes thru so many breakups when is she gonna write a song saying she's the problem" that part seems kinda satirical to me i never saw it as "trying to be relatable"
@oolong tea no you're right it just seemed like a direct quote from the old memes so it never phased me until now 😅 looking at it now it definitely could've been better
Can we talk about her voice? It's not that good in my opinion. I like to listen her music because I like to follow trend. There are many artists with unique voice but they don't have her talent to write songs. I think Taylor's lyrics and production is way above her voice 😅
Her voice is unique depends on what genre she sings . I used to think her voice is bland but during the folklore and evermore era . Her voice is very unique especially those lower register
this song is terrible and repetitive. the kind of song that can play in the background while you're at the shops, in the elevator, at many mundane times, and you will never even listen to it. it has no actual value as a song but people like it because it's the self-pity anthem. in a world where everyone wants to victimise themselves, this song is great for this purpose.
Well. She's a billionaire in a world full of poverty, she's a really really really great songwriter and 80% of her songs are my favorite, but is almost sad that the entirety of her performances involve her screaming the lyrics and not harmony or vocal ability at all, at the price of 4 monthly salary's. At least autotune would be appreciated and also more input on the dancing 😢. I mean, she sounds amazing and I love her voice on her records, she sounds so natural and angelic. I mean, Ariana is a perfect example of how to scream and sing seamlessly. Ariana could be the villan in this scenario and Taylor is the anti-hero.
While this song is a self reflection that so many people can relate to, I do think that taylor was kinda looking for some pity and for everyone to tell her that she is "being harsh on herself" or that "they love her no matter what" and all that. she built her career by playing victim in some kinda way and this song wasn't gonna be the exception.
@@Ty-mu7gl no its not because it is more than clear and you can see it throughout her career. but does she really think of herself as manipulative and calculated or is she actually saying that she is that way?
Idk how people enjoy the 'deep' meaning of her songs when they are a boring cash grab with nothing but expensive hollywood production and sleepy vocals. Taylors songs are almost always the most forgettable. Shes like Lana del Ray for normies.
Am I the only one that just realised now that when at the end of Anti Hero, she sings « everybody agreeee𝐬𝐬𝐬𝐬 », she makes that sound just like a snake cause once everybody agreed she was a snake and that she was the problem !

anti-hero was cute, but my favorite songs from ‘midnights’ are you’re on your own, kid & mastermind, both of them should’ve been the bigger singles from the record.
Midnight Rain is the best song on the album in my opinion
Love the new editing style!
What a lovely video about the song "Anti-Hero" well done.
I am not her fan and all her songs sound the same to me. But what I appreciate about her is that she writes her own material. This is a rare talent among popular artists today. Therefore, she totally deserves all her accolades and success.
Ah yes I was dancing to Hoax yesterday cause I thought it was Shake it Off 💀
@@Readyforit7723 same, i mixed up peace and paper rings
Saying that her music always sounds the same is crazy because she literally won the highest grammy awards (Album of the Year, btw) 3 times in 3 different decades, and 3 different genres.
@@ac9184 yayyy no varying opinions can be made 🙈
Songwriting isn’t a requirement for artists (except hip hop artists), Elvis presely never wrote his music and is the king of rock n roll.
I'm a swiftie & I love the song because of her lyrics & the songwriting structure NOT because it's Taylor Swift
The lyrics and songwriting resonate for sure
I genuinely hope Taylor is okay right now. Anti-Hero showed that she has many insecurities, which the public tends to forget. I'm sure a lot of celebrities feel the same way. Please, be respectful. They're just as human as we are. Money and fame don't change that.
I feel like Folklore is a solid prove that taylor is a amazing artist
I have never heard someone describe ME! So perfectly
new mic?sounds like better sound quality
It’s because she finally feels like she’s being honest about her flaws in the song
1989 is her best album BY FAR. These last albums sound so similar... and not fresh.
My favourite album of hers is reputation 🖤
I think she is like Avril Lagvine… they don’t know how to stop dating or being alone for a time to Heal. And yes, am not a hard fan but i like Anti-hero and Karma? Wow i Watched the mv yesterday and i love it too
the fact that the 3am edition despite being the superior tracks aren’t even available on the physical copies…
great video! 💕
I feel like Anti Hero is TS throwing shade at JA and his family.
"...I'm the problem / it's me/ At tea time / everybody agrees".
Like she felt they were ganging up on her when in reality they were saying "Normal life is not so bad."
Just my take, or one of them, anyway.
Anti Hero is an anthem for anyone who experienced scapegoating.
Lover has such amazing songs, Untill this day False God is one of her best creations, IDK what on earth made her think should be in that album let alone be a lead single
Lover to me is a great album and is one of my favorite albums
Respectfully you don’t know what ur talking about. BLANK SPACE IS A MASTERPIECE.
You reading out the whole lyrics
👁️👄👁️
Everyone hates on “ME” but I love it cause it’s fun
It also my personal Taylor swift song!!!!🔥🔥✨
We love Anti Hero but in no way shape or form is it the best song on the album lol
Strategic, not calculated
omg the me! slander
Blank space was a single wasn’t it?
Yes, a hit too
Folklore and everymore singles are the best, as those are her best albums, not sure why you totally skipped them hayhayayaywa.
As soon as she started to pick singles based on what she found were the best songs, as oposed to what ber label thought was going to have the broadedt appeal, everything changed for me. Singles off of Red, 1989, reputation and Lover are mostly the worst songs on each of this albums, it's always like, 3 of the worst songs she's ever written that don't represent the album at all and one good song that actually tells you something about what the rest of the album sounds like.
anti hero is like delicate.
Anti Hero is the only Tailor Swifer Sweafer song i have on my phone & i love it.
You realize ice spice team is the one who reaching out to her
everyone is chart desperate. not just taylor.
oh please this is what every artist does. girly literally occupied the entire top 10. her success is not all her. trust me she has the demand.
that’s one of the smartest things she did imo, which made the song stay at the top for 8 weeks. She knows how to market herself and it worked, what’s the problem? People were still invested. She’s still in the top 10, why wouldn’t an artist market themselves? Make it make sense.
I don’t see what’s wrong with wanting to be on the charts, not yall shaming artists for doing the thing they should be doing like- what tf do you even mean lmaooooo
Honestly y’all just need something to hate on and be pressed about
Anti hero is her best single? Argueably, yes
Best song on Midnights? it comes second to You're On Your Own kid, but that song is less catchy to be on the radio
I've never heard that before
"she looks n word on anti hero"
She's a rare example of a singer with an average voice and musically and melodically limited songs that is able to connect to its public in such a great way. That's the secret of her popularity. Let's admit her music as such is quite lame.
"i keep my side of the street clean" (she doesn't)
she does in general. she's got wrapped up in this matt healy situation but we still don't know all the facts. currently the only thing to criticise is the fact that it looks ignorant on her side. but for how long she's had a career and for how much drama the media and public have tried to stir she's surprisingly quiet and unproblematic. any issues she's been involved in have mainly been not her fault or small especially when you look at other artists. you can tell she's always just been focused on making music and trying her best to balance everything. you can see her growth. i truly don't understand the need people have to analyse and villianise her. she's just a person. anti hero is so sad. knowing all her fears and insecurities. how it's been beaten into her that because she dared to live her life she's some evil mastermind.
She's the least problematic between her peers like Justin ariana selena gaga Rihanna so yeah she does
Compared to who? Kanye? Scooter? Kim? Justin? That the cleanest damn street I've ever seen for being watched every second of every day.
Even compared to newer popping artists like Doja, Morgan Wallen, Melanie Martinez, and Dua, Taylor is definitely a lesser problematic artist.
Booooo "Me!" is a bop
As a lead single this song worked, considering the album itself is not great. The mid really shines on Midnights
covert, not convert 😂
Her lyrics sometimes remind me of a teenager who just discovered a thesaurus. Especially in Anti-Hero.
YES!!!
Haha yes her lyricism is so inconsistent sometimes
Okay so she’s a teenager for being clever ? .. if you listened to her other songs you wouldn’t even know the definition to majority of the words of them
But it's not verbose and meaningless, eh? I think I know which line you are referring to... it definitely adds something to the songs in my humble opinion. 😅
I hate anti hero but to each their own
i get what it means for taylor and i think its one of her most personal songs but this is one of my least fave songs by her. the it's me, hi, i'm the problem is so cringy and millenial, like she's trying to hard to be relatable
It brings me back to the memes where people said constantly "taylor goes thru so many breakups when is she gonna write a song saying she's the problem" that part seems kinda satirical to me i never saw it as "trying to be relatable"
I entirely see where you're coming from tho I never really thought of it that way
@@marissamihoko4479 there are better ways to convey that point instead of say "it's me hi i'm the problem"
@oolong tea no you're right it just seemed like a direct quote from the old memes so it never phased me until now 😅 looking at it now it definitely could've been better
The sexy baby line is not an allegory for aging women in entertainment… people are insecure and base in intelligence
The sexy baby line definitely is a reference to that. It's a reference to 30 Rock
She is music industry 🎉
I’ve never been a fan or understood the hype surrounding her. Her songs are Disney sounding and boring
You should try album folklore and evermore. They're pretty good
Then you've never heard Reputation, Folklore, Evermore and Midnights!!!!
Doesn't look like Disney at all
You probably havent even listened to all of her discography
I highly doubt Disney would let song like look what you made me do or I did something bad in thier channel.
@@danialrafiq3290 bro have you heard Karma… lmao I can’t deal
early 🫶🏻
Can we talk about her voice? It's not that good in my opinion. I like to listen her music because I like to follow trend. There are many artists with unique voice but they don't have her talent to write songs. I think Taylor's lyrics and production is way above her voice 😅
Her voice is unique depends on what genre she sings . I used to think her voice is bland but during the folklore and evermore era . Her voice is very unique especially those lower register
She's not a vocalist, she's a song writer / story teller
3:47 she copied Miley when she said Hanna was murdred
this song is terrible and repetitive. the kind of song that can play in the background while you're at the shops, in the elevator, at many mundane times, and you will never even listen to it. it has no actual value as a song but people like it because it's the self-pity anthem. in a world where everyone wants to victimise themselves, this song is great for this purpose.
:)
i think u r a bit critical of taylor in general idk why tho
Midnights is my favorite pop album by taylor
Fuck 19skips9 and L(OVER) and reputank 🙂
I'm joking fuck 19skips9 only :) the rest are good.
Her songs in her new album are all forgettable. Unlike Flowers by Miley.
💀💀💀
That songs ass
Pfft your tea is generic pop music😭😭
@@jeo5198generic = Taylor❤
And her grandma Marjorie is in hell dying rn
Taylor Swift is overrated.
For me her old music like reputation and 1989 were really good but now I find her music a bit mid but I still love her ❤
I feel like she is, now.
So do weekend,so do any artist who is rulling right now
@Christian Soto midnights was bad sorry not sorry and now I find her a bit overrated
@@amira34 you just call her successful
While this song is a self reflection that so many people can relate to, I do think that taylor was kinda looking for some pity and for everyone to tell her that she is "being harsh on herself" or that "they love her no matter what" and all that. she built her career by playing victim in some kinda way and this song wasn't gonna be the exception.
I think that's such a twisted thought lol, no wonder she thinks of herself as manipulative and calculated if y'all can never give her a break
@@Ty-mu7gl no its not because it is more than clear and you can see it throughout her career. but does she really think of herself as manipulative and calculated or is she actually saying that she is that way?
I still don't like this song
I deeply dislike everything this girl does….. could never stand her…………
Idk how people enjoy the 'deep' meaning of her songs when they are a boring cash grab with nothing but expensive hollywood production and sleepy vocals. Taylors songs are almost always the most forgettable. Shes like Lana del Ray for normies.
Lana del Rey is the Lana Del Rey for the normies though😭 She’s mainstream as she can be
You sound insecure with your music. Whahahahahahaha
because folklorevermore my friend
Just curious, how many of Taylor's hundreds of songs did you listen to before coming to this conclusion?
After the news about his private jet trips, the word ANTI HERO should be out of her vocabulary.
The way it has been old news.
She has rented them out to companies.
I love the album Lover so much but I kept forgetting ME was the lead single
Taylor’s music this year is meh 🫤 not something I would play at partys just something I would listen to in the car or in bed relaxing 😂
She is very wicked
Am I the only one that just realised now that when at the end of Anti Hero, she sings « everybody
agreeee𝐬𝐬𝐬𝐬 », she makes that sound just like a snake cause once everybody agreed she was a snake and that she was the problem !
