  • Who doesn’t love momos that remind them of the hills of Kathmandu, Nepal, Bhutan, or Darjeeling? In this video, we bring you a steamed pork momo recipe with easy-to-follow instructions on how to make momos at home. Whether you are looking for easy recipes for pork momo filling, hot momo chutney, the hearty momo soup, or just a tutorial on how you can prepare and roll the momo dough and pleat, crimp and shape your own momos, we have the complete package for you.
This recipe calls for fatty minced pork (at least 30 to 50 per cent fat). If you are shopping for pork in Calcutta, just ask for ‘momo pork keema’ at shops such as UP Cold Storage (New Market) or Chaman’s (Beckbagan), and the butchers will be able to give you a mince with the ideal fat to meat ratio! The pork shoulder and pork belly are good cuts for sourcing momo meat from.

    🤔 WHAT’S UP WITH MSG?
Recent studies have shown that MSG (Mono-sodium Glutamate)-often referred to by its brand name Ajinamoto-is not a harmful substance. It is a naturally occurring salt of sodium (just like table salt) derived from seaweeds that quickly and cheaply lends your dish an umami flavour. Glutamate salts are present in everyday food including tomatoes, mushrooms, meat, milk, cheese, and even human breast milk. Some people may be allergic to MSG-just like people are allergic to eggs, gluten, etc. If you are one of those people, certainly stay away from food that contains MSG, including all packaged chips, soups, instant ramens, etc. But for the vast majority of us, MSG is safe to eat. You can read more about it at the links below:

Every time i drop in this comment section, i find people who out of nowhere start commenting about what bengalis should eat..what hindus ought to eat and ought not to!! Just one thing to these censoring honchos...what you eat, whom you sleep with, when you take a shit that should be only your concern so stop moralising every damn thing.
And #bongeats you guys never fail to amaze me....keep up the good work...#loadsofloveAndappreciation😘😘

Also, the use of natural sounds in the kitchen instead of the usual background scores that are mostly used by other RUclipsrs is refreshing and extremely soothing. Thank you for the wonderful videos. I made this yesterday with a chicken keema filling, following all other steps in the recipe. First time I made momos at home, and they turned out amazing - better than the store bought! I am by no means experienced at rolling dough, and getting thin momo wrappers was a concern I had before attempting this. But the instructions given in the recipe made it so easy. Thank you Bong Eats for being a teacher, friend and guide in our culinary journey.

As a momo eater by birth, I am impressed by your thorough video. Having said that, both ginger and garlic are required to add into the meat mixture and no fresh chillies whatsoever. We have chilli sauce/chutney for that. No black pepper, soy sauce and defInitely NO MSG. Perhaps you guys grew up eating that way. Just saying.

I am from the era when citizens of Calcutta never dated to eat Chinese food, I lived my childhood in Park Street and went to New Market for my marketing, Moni Chand's dad was alive and gave the best Pork. Azmat's National Poultry for Desi chicken, Pork Momo at Hamro Momo in there home for Rs.2.50/- Now there was this Hou Hua on Free School Street who made this out of the world Chimney soup which could be enjoyed when 4 friends got together, I used to organize High Rock Concerts, close friend of Dilip Balakrishnan and Nondon Bakshi, used to have Chinese food at my house other then Fat ma.Now this Chimney soup is available at Eau Chew and some exoctic Chinese food, I want to learn the Chimney soup and the dumplings and meat/ fish ball soup breakfast which they sell in China, China Town, the dry Pork Sausage, Chinese Roast pork the pows made by a Chinese who left Calcutta way back in 1975. Lost recipes must be recovered if you can get it.

You can set a colander-like dish with holes in it over a pot/kadai of water. Cover the whole thing with a snug-fitting lid and you have made yourself a nifty little contraption. You don't need a special steamer for this. Basically anything you'd make idlis or something like paturi in will do.

Sorry Bong Diva, I have been an ardent flower of your channel. But momo is our food and I somehow donot accept this Bong concept of banglaliana in every food, there is no I repeat no place for ginger in momo. Momo is a Tibetan dish popularised in India but the origin is of Mongolia where it is called "boz" and I have a deep rooted connection with these two culture. I am actually mix of these two races. So thought of sharing my views with you, please do not take it otherwise.....

Naah. MSG is a controversial ingredient. Its quantity is strictly administered in food contents by FSSAI. Better not promote it!!!

Kindly give measurements in spoon in your recipes. I mean for vegetables, garlic mention how many cloves, medium onion, number of green chilies etc., it will help your channel grow. The chutney recipe also mention number of chilies please. Most people don’t have weighing scale for grams measurement

Pork = Gahori in Assamese. And we have so many pork recepies in our land. Next time just try one simple step. Plz don't grind the pork. Just boil it and cut in small small pieces. And give some grind muri mint seeds.

People in Darjeeling don't add black pepper or other masalas in the mixture. That's the only thing I didn't like it here. Otherwise everything else done to perfection.

I love all your recipes. Love the momo one too. But I don’t think one should put chillies in momos. No authentic recipe has chillies. If you need spice they sauce is there for that reason too.
