To say something in regards to his acting.
Ryan has a LOT of films before Deadpool, and to be honest very few standout. Many were bombs/small budget. My figuring, is that Reynolds has tried, and it really has never landed in regards to dramatic range. Though he was fantastic in Buried and The Voices, I think he saw what worked for him, and stuck with it. He has been crazy successful from it, hasn't let his ego run him into the ground...like The Rock for instance, and seems genuinely happy. Sometimes we just suck at one thing, and finally realize we're amazing at another part of it.

Although it has elements of science fiction, this film features a serious performance by Reynolds as an astronaut facing a deadly extraterrestrial threat.
    5. The Voices (2014)
While it includes touches of dark comedy, Reynolds' role as a mentally unstable man addresses dark and serious themes related to mental health.

I think it's not just actor problem but Hollywood problem too, they just won't try to shake up the established.
let's take Liam Neeson as an example, he makes his big break in Hollywood portraying a hardened ex special force in Taken and what project he keeps receiving after that? a hardened ex special force until his name no longer sells and they abandon him entirely, I'm sure the same is happening with Ryan Reynolds too, unless he proves that he does have range (Which usually means taking a smaller project).

I think he made his big break in movies like Rob Roy, Schindlers List or maybe even Kingdom of Heaven. The Taken series has really boosted his stock in Hollywood. But he's been around for a long time & built his legacy with other movies. Even then, Taken, Non-Stop, A Walk Amongst the Tombstones, Run All Night & so on. Are pretty solid action movies, it's his bread & butter for a reason.
Also Ryan has proved that he has range. Check out Voices & Buried. He doesn't act anywhere near his typical self & imo. Did a great job in both.

Before, Liam Neilson used to be one of the best actors of all cinema, due to his breakout roles in Schindler’s List, Batman Begins, even The Phantom Menace despite that film being considered one of the worst films ever made when it came out. But ever since Taken, Liam Nelson’s been typecasted in action movies, just as the Rock has been typecasted in blockbusters.
It’s like Neilson jumped the shark or whatever.

@ShockwaveFPSStudios Nah, maybe Liam is just having more fun with the newer roles he chooses. As you said yourself, he made himself into a force to be reckoned with in the acting industry.
Even then, the action movies he's been cast in. Have been pretty solid objectively speaking. I can almost guarantee myself that when I watch a Liam Neeson movie. Whether it be newer or older, I'll enjoy it. Sure, he may have made better movies back then. But he's still a great actor imo.

Heck, even in The Proposal which is a comedy right up his alley, Ryan acts in a way that is much different from say, Deadpool, for example. He masterfully morphs into this frustrated and exasperated character, who then becomes vindictive but also warms up to the person who made his life hell.

So yes, many people play similar characters. Joaquin is a great actor, but... If you compare his characters in "you were never really here", "the master" and "the joker" you'd see a pattern.

100% disagree here. Having seen a lot of his movies I can say with confidence he can act! He's done several movies where doesn't play "Ryan Reynolds" it's just not very often

Two people you see on the screen that are not acting: babies, and Ryan Reynolds.
