I like how Gabe's business model is focused on weeding out the best tunes. It took me a while to build a playlist for motown and soul from the 50s-70s, as not all of them will of course woud be palatable to my taste, but with Dapatone, man. I just have to open their channel and put every playlist they have on autoplay. Wishing more success to Bosco and Neal, my 2 favorite jews in the world... and more success to their artists (hope they are paid well :p) ... also kudos with getting Penrose onboard. Nobody knows their souldies better than the latinos.
Great profile. Especially appreciated the insight of Gabe about the fetishizing of equipment or gear (or a floor!) and people grabbing a hold of that instead of eh essence and substance and performance of what the artist was conveying.... Also, was an absolute joy and feel very lucky to have recorded “The Disappeared” and “Across The Borderline” at Daptone Studio. (Both can be found on the Outernational album, “Todos Somos Ilegales”.
Daptone is Top Label for our sub-culture! Many thanks for this video!
I love everything about these people. I’d love to record there one day.
