It appeared as though the 300 AF-S f/4D IF-ED was faster than the other two to include he newer version.

So the ED IF isnt THAT much slower. It is obviously slower but not that bad

The best, the oldest, all metal and failure-free for life. AF is super precise

A poor test because you can only see the rotational speed and not the precision. The slowest one is the most precise and accurate. AF finds a hair at 10 meters and the newer ones then you can see how long they are looking for it 😅

I agree - the test does not say anything about focusing accuracy - the camera is responsible for this, not the lens. It is in the camera that there are autofocus sensors and tell the lens where to turn. The test was filmed on a Nikon D7200 camera and I think that on D3/4 the oldest one would have had a higher speed

Additionally, I want to say that the zoom factor in the old lens is the largest, and in the new one it is the smallest, that the old one has the largest chromatic aberrations, and the new one, the lightest and fastest, has stabilization and is the sharpest. I sold all these lenses a long time ago and now I’m working with the 300mm f2.8 VRII, and if I were choosing one of these lenses now, I’d take the old one
